Is it me or do any of you find that the longer you stretch out your perms the dryer your hair (even the part that is permed) gets? It is crazy. It seems like NOTHING I put in my hair is helping. When I airdry it I put stuff in it and it is still dry.

Do you experience this? Some of you?

I feel u!!! I experience the same thing. My hair even my ends will not hold moisture during a long stretch, no matter how much I moisturize my hair.

Its kinda like my root are the core of my hair. If the roots are dry and nappy, the rest of my hair wants to follow. :perplexed

I agree 100%. My hair acts like this too. I was just thinking about this on yesterday. I came to the conclusion that the only time I really like to wear my hair down now is when I first get a relaxer. Maybe a week or two after, but that's it. Once I start getting new growth, my hair starts acting weird :ohwell:.

How often are you deep conditioning? And maybe for your stretch you should only focus on moisturizing products(poos and cons). HTH.

I agree... my hair tends to be very dry... I pin curl it and wear it in tight curls or in a curly ponytail... I am at 8 weeks post so I have some serious dry hair.

I always experience dryness while stretching especially my roots:ohwell: that's why when I deep condition I use a lot of conditioner on the roots.. My ends aren't as bad b/c they are moisturized and in a bun.. But them roots are something else

I deep condition once a week because I have so much new growth I do not want to manipulate it too much. I always follow up with a moisturizing condish and lotions. I keep my hair in two big braids pinned up for a week until my next wash. I spray it with either dew or mango spray and seal it with Amla or Vatika oil every night and sleep with a satin scarf. In the morning, DRY AGAIN! Just like the desert!

S-Curl does nothing, NTM Nothing, Oil rinsing, Nothing!

Have you checked to see if it's porous? How often do you clarify?

I am going through this now. I actually have my hair in rollers right now.
I am underprocessed and my conditioners are not acting the same. I might have to go ahead and get a retouch.

I TRY to clarify once a month. I am thinking that if I clarify to often my already dry hair will be drier because my moisturizing condishes do not even work anymore.
ITA. Does your hair air dry very quickly? I'm thinking it has something to do with overporous hair, maybe?

yeah i think that's what happened to me. the middle was very under processed and no matter what I put in it it was dry dry DRY, i also think that the ng was making it dry too but it was dry. ive got it in braids right now to help me make it to feb (4 mo's) i was trying to make it to june bit it's so dry and unhappy im going to get it touched up when i take these braids out for valentine's day, and by a stylist experienced with texturizers because i don't want the middle of my head to dry up and fall out

My hair is prone to dryness too, but it was just as dry when I was natural. Winter is always the worst for folks w/ dry hair.

i am going through the same thing. my hair is sooooooo dry and it looks very dull. I am 14 weeks post relaxer. I'm never stretchign this long along, besides stretching the weather is also making my hair feel really dry.

I think that I may not be able to stretch this long anymore if it is going to be drying my hair out like that. It is like the roots are sucking the life out of the rest of my hair the longer it gets! :nono:

Have you tried cowashing often (like every other day or so)? That helped me last stretch when my hair was acting up.

It's my roots! I am underprocessed everywhere (:perplexed) and my roots are sucking the moisture out of the rest of my hair, it's so hard to moisturize and keep it that way. I found that oil rinsing and Cw'ing was kinda helping, but my hair is short and it was hard finding something to do with sopping wet, neck length hair everyday. So, now I'm cutting back to my once, maybe twice a week stuff. But this Mojave desert (aka, my roots) are killing me, "water, water!"

That is funny! I feel ya. Someone has to have a solution.

I am so glad I ran across this thread. I honestly thought that it was only me having all these problems. I was even more upset because I just relaxded my hair about 3 weeks ago and I'm having these problems.

I think I might try the ACV wash this weekend. I'm tryin to keep my hands out of my head.

I think I just had a lightbulb moment after reading this thread! I am 12 weeks post and I thought that the dryness that I was experiencing was from the weather and the insane heat in my apartment, but now that I am thinking about it, it could really be due stretching my relaxer for this long.

I know exactly what you ladies are experiencing. My hair is the same way. The first few weeks after a relaxer, I'm good to go. My hair soaks up moisture. But once I hit around the 7 week mark, my hair just does not retain moisture and looks super dull. It's so funny because if I get a touch up, my hair is silky, vibrant and well-moisturized with minimal effort. My roots aren't much of a problem--it's my relaxed ends.
