Does anyone use a pomade or texturing gel/cream to define their layers? I know that 'clear' people do this, but do any of you?:look:
I'm thinking of trying this but I wanted to hear some of your experiences first.

Its not really a clear people thing. My stylist does it too. Its mostly done on shorter, layered styles.

Try Redken Water Wax or Paul Mitchel Slick Works. Also, PM Gloss Drops or Redken Glass does the exact same thing, for longer haired ladies that want shiny ends. I know oils can sometimes make the ends stick together and cause breakage, so something with cones might stop that.

I think that a pomade would be used for those with shorter hairstyles. It seems that a pomade would weigh longer hair down. I've had layers for years and I never need anything to define them. They just fall into place.

:lachen: @ "clear people"

no i do not. i tried it once back in the day when i got my relaxed hair cut into short layers... i was trying to flip my hair out. but it just weighed my hair down. i have thick strands and thick hair so it was not a good combo. :nono:

:spinning: It's an OT term, that was my first time using it.

I don't mind my hair being weight down in the winter. Maybe I'll try shea butter to start

I did this when my hair was shorter, and cut into one of those trendy "anime" styles. I used Bed Head Manipulator (a slimy putty consistency) and it was cool for a while. Then I decided to grow it out...

I agree with the ladies who said shorter styles benefit more from pomades, unless you're going for more of a "bedhead" look, but we can just do that on dirty hair, no added product needed.:look:

Pomades of any kind weigh my hair down. I accentuate my layers best when I flat iron because I can make them really pop but since I'm not using direct heat I have to settle for the rollerset. I love my layers!

I have tried a couple: Ojon's Animated Styling Cream and Frederic Fekkai's Coiff Piecing and Forming Wax. I like the way the wax feels and performs better.

I just use enough to get a soft tossled look. I'm still experimenting to find just the right one.

That's what I'm going for instead of the "poufy" look of the shorter layers just blending in and looking full when it isn't curled.

i'm a rollerset girl. When I want more defined layers I will use a more setting lotion or add some mouse to my wet set for more definition. Also less manipulation (ie combing, brushing) is also key HTH

My stylist didn't do anything except flip the ends up with a blowdryer and a round brush and then pincurl. Then I would pincurl them at night... that's about it.

I should mention that I would use lottabody (ready to use version - white and purple bottle) before rollersetting.

no it's kewl... i'm gonna start using it now! :yep:

by "weighed down" i mean the hair didn't flip out... it just didn't lay straight down. it was kinda feathered only at the ends, i guess. i just know i didn't like it. :nono: but my hair was shorter than yours is now, and i was going for a different look. also i might have used too much.
