My bottle of Brilliant serum is running low... should I switch to Keracare's Silken Seal?

Why or Why not?

I use the Aveda Brilliant Serum. I don't know what's in the Keracare Silken Seal but the Aveda serum has mostly natural ingredients and a little goes a very long way. :)

I would not use keracare silken seal on a daily basis. The ingredients are cyclomethicone and dimethicone in that order. It really seals. It can be a b--- to get out if you use it when setting or whatever. It would be hard for you to add any additional moisture without really building up on your hair. I have never used my sample of aveda brilliant serum, so I can't speak on it, but I bet that the ingredients are better for use in between washes. HTH.

Here's a link to the item at Aveda's web site. It lists the key ingredients. Please don't take it the wrong way, but I just can't look at that small print on the bottle while trying to type it. http://www.aveda.com/templates/products2/spp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY10538&PRODUCT_ID=PROD5923

Thanks Allandra. I see they have key ingredients listed, but not the whole list. Lemme see if I still have my old bottle of brilliant serum...

I've used the Aveda serum and emollient to flat iron my mother's hair AND KeraCare and her fragile, 4b, fine hair loved the Aveda products and came out silky and bouncy with movement.

Not so with Keracare.

Keracare RULES for presses though!! :yep: Totally protected her hair.

old thread, but just in case anyone uses this thread as a resource now or in the future...

Keracare Silken Seal is THICK as all get out. I haven't used Brilliant, but I'm assuming it's not as thick as KSS, because I've never met another serum that was. Silken Seal was designed more or less as a blow dry lotion. I've used it on the ends of my hair for rollersets and that's it. I do see how it could be a good heat protectant for pressing or flat ironing, but I'm pretty certain that the hair would be weighed down too.
