Ok so I have been helping her along with her journey she is about full shoulder maybe a little less. She washed, DC, and hot oiled last night. When I looked in the tub after she got out there was hair everywhere. This is the second time that has happened. She started to look really depressed and I felt so bad. Even though I am much younger I had to be strong and tell her it will be ok, she will have to work on her protein/moisture balance, but I dont know what to do really.

I asked her what she thinks might be the cause. She said she thinks its the Africa's Organics Best Hair Mayo. I use that same Hair Mayo with no problems and we have similiar textures (Im 4a maybe a little 3c and she is 4a/b, both very thick and coarse). She said that her hair would itch like crazy all day long and when she washes, its hair everywhere.

She decided last night to weave it up even though I have been tryin to get her away from weaves a while until her ends where healthier to deal with stress weaves can bring. I didnt want her in weaves until her hair stops breaking off and shedding so much. But hopefully she will be fine with oiling and moisturizing frequently.

What do I do? I want her to have long hair too.

Has anyway else had a problem with itching or Hair Mayo? What helped you with the problem?

Mayo dries my hair out, IF I get under the dryer, and then rinse it out with warm water. I just sleep in it, and rinse it out with tepid water.

may be she needs more moisture for now. Get her to stay off protein for the next 2-3wks and moisture moisture moisture.

On the other hand, I loose hair when i deep condition with ors mayo on towel dried hair, the way it works for me is to apply to dry hair and let it dry like aphogee, then rinse. Also I can only use it once in 2 weeks.
anyway I hardly use it now, since sept I have been using amla and brahmi rinse biweekly and this is a better hair strengthener for me.

If hair mayo is not working then she may need to try aphogee 2 min-when I was using this I prefer to use this prepoo, to deep condition for 5 min, anymore makes hair dry.

Thanks I had her buy aphogee a while ago. I will tell her to lay off anything with protein and use mayo on dry hair only.

Anything else ladies!

Some Mayo's make me shed more. I would have her cowash with something she likes to get any remaining mayo residue out of her hair and tell her not to use it any more.

It sounds like she may be allergic to something in it. Itching & hair loss from something is never a good sign :nono:. Def tell her not to use it again & focus on moisture for now.

How do you make your rinse? I love Alma oil !!

Yikes... First and foremost, I hope shes alright. Secondly, Id make her stop using the Hair Mayo.

Next thing Id do is go and get her an ultra moisturizing conditioner.... like Humectress and use that for the next week.

I would have her wash out her hair to get rid of any residue.
NOT use the Mayo again it may not agree with her
Get a Good moisture DC like Kenra MC and she should be fine
Lay off the protein for about 3 weeks and just focus on moisture.. then U can try protein in moderation

this might mean she is allergic to something in the product perhaps she should switch to something else STAT!

I make amla and brahmi rinse using hesh amla/brahmi powder, I table spoon each of the 2 to about 700mls of warm water leave to brew for about 1 hr, then strain.

pour the rinse to shampooed hair (you want to gradually pour evenly), leave for about 3-5min.
rinse with warm water, do not agitate or detangle the hair, then deep condition for 15-30 min with a moisturising conditioner.

just to add, you can use dried herbs instead of the powder and brew as tea.

Oh that is awesome, I am so going to try that! Both of those powders are fabulous for the hair and scalp....I am working very hard to get and keep my scalp healthy.

Sorry for Hijacking the thread...PrettyFace, I agree with everyone, she sounds allergic and I wish she hadn't got her hair weaved up because she may need to be able to make sure her scalp is okay from the reaction. It's kinda hard to tell when it's weaved. Perhaps you can talk her out of wearing it for too long.

DOES YOUR SISTER HAVE A PEANUT ALLERGY? Some of these products, including some brands of Organics and the Shea butter lotion product, contain peanut oil and they do not have a warning label. Check out all of the Organics and the SB. lotion for yourselves. This could be deadly for those with an allergy. It could lead to anaphylactic shock so check your ingredients. I was about to buy one product and then I bought the SB lotion and had to throw it out! bonjour
