Seriously! My DH would give me the look of DEATH if I told him that I was going to spend upwards $300 on a freakin' HAIR DRYER!!!!!

Please tell me that there is something that is comparable to this dang PIBBS everyone is talking about. Something that DOESN'T cost me an arm and a leg to purchase!

(I can't believe y'all spent that much...*whispering so my DH doesn't hear* for real though, is it worth it :look:)

I spent a little over $200 on mine. It's so worth the money and pays for itself very quickly if you go to the salon regularly.:yep:

Well, it is a professional dryer. It is the most I've ever paid for a hair dryer, and the first dryer that has given me the real, consistent salon results, so IDK. I think it is up to the individual. It can't be beat for drying longer lengths of hair especially if your hair is on the thick side.

What is so different about the Pibss than any other dryer? What does it do to your hair that makes it so special? Does it dry your hair faster or something? I am really interested in learning more about it and it's benefits. Thanks! :)

I have a dryer that I bought from Sally's that I ADORE, it dries my rollersets in 45 min, its portable I have taken it on vacations, etc and cost like 30 dollars. It's an ion and says that it dries your hair quicker and shiny, it's not that I wouldn't shell out the money for the Pibbs, but I LOVE this dryer!!!! I have had my hair dried with a Pibbs at the DS and couldn't tell a diff from the one that I have at home. There is pic in m fotki under appliances if you want to see it.

I bought a Babyliss dryer from my BSS and it works great! I have nearly APL hair and it only takes 45 min to dry my hair. The only thing is it's not as deep as the Pibbs, so when my rollers get bigger I might have a problem getting my whole head in it. I cant wait to cross THAT bridge! :yep:

Please don't take offense to this statement (I'm promise I'm not trying to be rude).................but, you get what you pay for:yep::yep: I've heard so many things about crappy hooded dryers and cheap free-standing dryers that I said I wouldn't mind forking over the money to get the best, the real deal. It all depends on how often you intend to use the dryer. If you are planning to use it frequently, then I think it would be a really good investment. They last for a very long time, and if you frequent the salon a lot, then the dryer pays for itself. However, if you're going to be doing a rollerset here and there, and not getting much use out of it, then I definitely wouldn't recommend purchasing that Pibbs. If you have time, stop by a local Sallys and ask them for a catalog that lists all of the professional equipment. That's what I did. I did see some dryers that were cheaper than the Pibbs (one made by Conair), but since I've heard all the testimonials about Pibbs, then I'm stickin to gettin' the real deal mccoy.

I have the same one and I love mine as well :yep:! I just did my friend's hair yesterday, added some chi, roller set for 30 mins., combed out the curls, wrapped with saran wrap, used the dryer again for 15 mins., and man, it looked like a DR salon trip! I got mine at walmart for 30 dollars.

babyliss is good, i also worry about the depth.

I know it is pricey, but like another poster said sometimes to do get what you pay for. I have had my Pibbs for almost 4 years now and its the best hair purchase I have ever made. I have tried other dryers but they were not as good IMO. It basically paid for itself in a few months. I don't go do the salon for a $40 wash and set unless I want to.

i desparately want to get a Pibbs, and i'll make the investment if it really is all its cracked up to be.

right now i have a $28 soft bonnet dryer from wal-mart. i've had it for almost 2 months now, and it's already having issues staying on for more than an an hour and a half. which is bad, because i try to keep it on for 2 hours, just to make absolutely sure that my hair turns out dry.

but i hate dryers that get too hot, and my rinky dinky dryer burns up my neck something serious on medium. is there a dryer (or does the pibbs do this?) that doesn't get too hot, but still dries your hair in under an hour?

a cheap one?

I have a Gold n Hot dryer and it works just fine. I've had it for YEARS, and I only paid ilke $35 at Sally's. On the highest setting, it takes my hair about an hour to dry...maybe less, but I can never sit for longer than 30 minutes. I just can't see spending hundreds of dollars on a hair dryer.

What is the brand/model of the dryer?

My 514 arrived yesterday (can you tell I'm super excited? cuz I am) and of course like a crackhead I got to washing my hair right away. Now my hair is short, yes. But I did a rollerset and was DRY in like 20 mins. On a very low setting too; I think I had it on 30 or 40? (can't remember) But I took out what of the back curlers to see if it was dry and yep. All dry. :yep:

I have had alot of dryers that I thought were 'good' for the price. But now that I have a Pibbs, I can tell an ENORMOUS difference. The air flow, the heat control, the way your ENTIRE head gets even heat, everything. Co-signing w/ 'You get what you pay for'. It looks like I just got my hair 'DONE' at the salon.

Plus I plan on having this baby for a long time. So it'll pay for itself in the long run. :)

Final thought - I think someone here compared it to buying salon quality flat irons. We all thought gold n hot was da ish til learning about ceramics, fhi, solia, maxiglide, etc!! :p But now we see how much of a difference it makes in our hairs' health and overall appearance. Same principle applies for a hooded dryer. They are not all created equal.

Is the Ion one really good and dry fast? What about thick hair?

I have an old Gold n' Hot dryer that takes me forever to dry under, but that's mostly cause of my thick hair.

Thanks for giving a detailed reason on the Pibbs difference, it was very helpful. I'll try to get one mostly in the future once I graduate or my hair decides to grow :wallbash: but for now I'll stop back at Sallys for a cheapie .

SelfStyled: What kind of dryer is it? Inquiring minds want to know...

Hey, MissCherokee! No offense taken :nono:!

That is some great advice to look at other professional dryers in the catalog.

I've read the testimonials about the PIBBS that is why I started this thread so that I can get some feedback on OTHER dryers that are ALSO good - b/c sruely the PIBBS isn't the only dryer that is deep enough or that dries quickly.

OK ladies, keep the posts coming

If you are a bargain hunter like me, you can find a good deal on the dryer you want. I was waiting for one to show up on ebay and finally it did, and I got the 514 for $170 including shipping! Even that was a lot for me to spend, but I sold one of my nursing textbooks and my FHI iron since I plan on only rollersetting and sometimes blowing only my roots out. I still have my chi anyway if I want to flat iron once in a blue moon. I like the fullness/body of a rollerset myself. It absorbed most of the cost that way.

Anyway, to top it all off and make a long story short...the idiot who shipped my pibbs to me didnt package it correctly and it got a little banged up during shipping. I was HEATED. So the guy (he owns a salon) offered to send me a new Pibbs free of charge and its only missing a visor. The visor only costs $35. So anyway I sold the 2nd dryer on the exchange forum and the buyer is going to buy a visor. Eventually Ill probably replace my hood for cosmetic reasons(costs 50 bucks), but it works just fine so Im ok for now.

In the end u might as well say my pibbs was free! Makes me love it that much more!

Also, if you get the catalog from Sallys, make sure to ask for prices and use those to comp shop. The prices in that catalog are outrageous!!

If you do a search on google for "Rollabout hard hat hair dryers" there are some that start as low as $118.00. The Babyliss Ionic Rollabout hard hat dryer looks good for $139.00.

i always wondered about the quality of hair dryers because i've been going to the salon since i was 13 (im 20 now) purposely scoped out the products my stylist used to recreate the effect at home and no matter what i did, it would never come out right and now im thinking it might be because of the hair dryer ive been using...

i think this post is making me want to buy my first big hair purchase (i just joined the site)...

u ladies make me so excited to take proper care of my hair! its currently in a weave but as soon as it comes out, its a wrap...

All excellent points, especially re: the salon quality flat iron. If you can make the initial splurge, it will pay for itself really quickly.

This is probably a really stupid question so don't laugh.

But does your dryer make a huge difference in how your rollerset comes out? I'm still learning to rollerset (in other words can't hardly do it at all) and I'm afraid to spend $$ on a great dryer if I never get the hang of it.

RosesBlack: That is the question....

I know the dry time and the air flow is diff among dryers. I am not so sure about the way your rollerset comes out...
