Just curious. Going to a Toni & Guy salon ran across my mind today. I don't think I've seen any black stylists in there, though I'm sure there probably are some at some of their locations.

When my hair was super short, I went to a Taiwanese woman to cut it. Man, she could CUT THE MESS OUT OF SOME HAIR! By far the best I'd ever known. She did not do relaxers and asked that if you came to her for a cut, that your hair be freshly relaxed (no more than a couple weeks post). She would use the textured shears and thinners to take out the bulk. She would always say "Choo want dimension? Choo want texture? Choo want depth?" I would just say "Yes" Then she would whip out her tools and get busy. When I would mention these things to a black stylist, they would just look at me like DUH!

All I had to do was wrap my hair up at night and rake my fingers through it in the morning-if that. Man, I miss her!

At Vidal Sasson in Atlanta, I used to go to this White guy. He was AMAZING!!!! He knew exactly what he was doing and my hair always looked beautiful. Why did I have to be cheap and go to someone else while I was in college? :wallbash: BOOO!!!! :lachen:

Oh, I almost forgot. When I was natural I had a white stylist named Maria. She was really good at looking at my hair and determining the shape it should fall in for my face. She was real brave to take on the task of doing a sistah's natural hair. She was good though!

The last stylist I went to was Guyanese (Indian). I loved the roolsert she gave me but when she did my relaxer, it fele on y clothes. And to top it off she applied it all over my head. It's a shame too because I thought she was "the one" lol. I met with her before she did my hair and she was nice. She knew all about ACV rinses, and not relaxing bone straight. She did everything I asked her to do like apply conditioner to my ends, and put the conditioner before the neutralizer. Now I notice my ends have gotten red since that last visit from her putting all over my head and I am officially done. I'm self relaxing next week.

When I first relaxed my hair again in 2005 (before the hair debacle of '06 :nono:), I went to Toni & Guy, and this Korean chick rocked my hair's socks :drunk: That girl was sooo bad w/the scissors!! :D Once I went in for a cut when she wasn't available and let this black guy do it, and no lie, after he was done I had a panic attack :(

I don't miss their prices, though :ohwell:

I went to an Aveda salon in July for a trim and my white girl Shauna hooked a sista up!!! She got my hair super straight and silky without burning it up...she uses Affirm relaxers

I am also Guyanese, when I was younger my older sister would put the relaxer all over my head. Now she know's better.
To get back on the subject. I had an Italian male hair stylist when I was stationed in Italy. I really miss him, since I moved to Fl I haven't found anyone to do my hair right. Now I haven't had a relaxer since May 4, 2007.

I used to go to Dominicans and they messed my hair up soooo badly and they had hair that was probably 4a or 4b and i had 3b/c and they couldnt handle my hair?! I also used to go to an Egyptian who did good blowouts and also a Russian who had very curly probably 3b hair herself and she was ok for blowouts. Now i dont trust anyone with my hair,, i think almost all hairdressers are abusive to the hair in some way

When I lived in Ohio from 1997 to 2000, the station I worked for had a deal with the Elizabeth Arden salon.
At first, I was directed to the only A-A stylist there. She was OK but never knocked my socks off. But she said if I needed to come in on her off day I should go to Patti, the only white woman there who did relaxers.
Well, Patti can relax, color and cut like no other stylist I've had in my life.
So I quickly made the switch to her and left the sista be!

I've found its best not to let COLOR get in the way of great hair care.

Long before discovering the hair boards, I went to a stylist who happened to be white. I made an appointment for a relaxer and she was excellent! There were no other clients around--she focused on one client per appointment and gave me and my hair undivided attention. :) My hair was beautiful so healthy-looking. I probably would have continued seeing her but I moved.

My family's Guyanese. But I was born in the US.

How could I forget the Dominicans?:wallbash:

oh man. When I first started going to them my hair wasnt in the best condition but since going to them I noticed my sides were thinning BADLY. I think it's due to overprocessing plus they overlapped a lot when they relax. My hair is so thin now I dont even wear it down. and I never used heat, was moisturing daily, and DC every week.

Some people portray dominican stylists as the end all be all for hair care, and I'm not saying all of them are bad but I will say, not everything is for everyone and they'll never touch my hair again.

I have a non-black person that cuts my hair (she's Latina). In fact, as much as I hate these layers, she did a great job. The way she cut it shows just how much attention she paid to the dimensions of my head and how to properly cut each layer. My hair still has a lot of bulk even after I texturized/relaxed. I just hate that it takes so long to grow them out!

Another Guyanese American checking in! I could really use some good roti right about now. Why are there no west indian restaurants in northern Virginia? Anyway I guess I should learn to make it myself!

I had a relaxer once from a white guy at Bubbles! I thought he did an excellent job! But after that I started seeing black stylists in the shop and I would make appointments with this one black guy instead. Anyway that was pre-boards and when I complained to him about the dryness of my hair one winter he recommended Paul Mitchell gloss drops FOR MOISTURE!!!! :ohwell:

Sheese!

Been a total DIYer for a over a year now.

I just checked out their price list online and um--not cute!!! :nono:

But if they'll do an excellent job, I'd drop the $$$ in a heartbeat. :yep:

Oh, I believe they will . It was definitely worth the money, whenever I went to the Korean girl. If you go, let us know how it went :)

i rarely go to get my hair styled, I'm natural. But when i do get it trimmed, I go to Hair Cuttery or MasterCuts. Most of their stylists are non-white but they do a great job. I am still traumatized over the "so-called" trim the last black person gave me. I asked him to take a half inch off all the way around and this fool gave me a "Gumby" haircut and lined me up in the front like a dude. Unbelievable, right. I had to wait on the low side to grow out and then get it re-trimmed to correct his error. Ya'll know my family, friends and co-workers clowned me.

BTW- the man that i mentioned in my post does not work at MasterCuts or HairCuttery. He is an exclusive stylist in my neighborhood with fab reviews. Not from me though.

My stylist is white. She does a wonderful job with my haircuts and she can get my straight. If I want anything complicated I just do it myself.

The best, and I do mean most beautiful, easily maintained, perfect hair cut I have ever received was from a white man who worked at a hair salon in Lakewood, CA. The salon has since closed, and NEVER has anyone given my hair the time and attention this man did. It was heaven when he washed, the conditioning treatment was divine, and the style to die for.

After that salon closed, I went to a few other AA stylists - ewww plus it took hours and hours.

Right now, I am getting ready to go to a new stylist (not AA) - roller set next week - to see how she does. We've talked and she says she knows - we;l see what happens.

I actually don't care what color the stylist is, I just want my time respected and my hair to look good.

Um, I think you gon' have to come up off some names, miss lady!! Share, share please :yep:
