Are all these oils not working for anyone?

I'm curious because I'm doing the EVOO, coconut (not the indian brand), jojoba, and castor; as prepoo or rinse or leave in. But lately my hair seems harder, even when I pack it on?

When wet my hair seems fine but when I air dry my ends are rough!

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I have come to the conclusion that oils do nothing for my hair. Infact they dry it out. My only exception is when i do an oil rinse - i use Amla Plus Oil for this and it helps with detangling. I just have to avoid oil at all other times.

I do not use it to 'seal' in other products or pre-poo.

I personally clarify about once a month and use a small/medium amount of oil. I don't overload.

My hair is doing much better without using oils. It prefers moisturisers and butters.

No, you're not alone! Oils don't work for me either. I have also tried it as a pre-poo, rinse or leave-in (evoo, jojoba, sweet almond, baobab, coconut, etc.), and my hair is always crispy when dry. Shea butter used to work for me, but that has stopped working for me too! I like sprays and creams - they seem to work fine for me!

i havent tried too many different oils, but...

olive oil kind of makes my hair feel dry. (i think it worked better when i was relaxed)
coconut oil only works for me if i mix it with castor oil

i like castor oil...the only thing that sucks is that it's so sticky.

I have the problem with some oils - EVOO and Coconut aren't leave ins for me unless they're mixed with something else. I've found that most oils are best mixed together, or diluted into a creamy base and used LIGHTLY. Using alot of oil = crunchy oily stiff hair. Since oils seal, not moisturize, I use a cream and then seal with a light spray of oil all over, alittle heavier on the ends. I think of it as a shine serum -- too much and your hair is a gunky mess. I only glop it on for an oil rinse - which works wonderfully for me so far.

Hon have you clarifed? I know that when my oils aresn't working right, it's
time to clarify then f/u with dc tx. I know that after that my hair seems to do fine. Try that and see how it works for you before throwing stuff out or trying a new product.

They don't work for me either. Oil rinses, sealing with oil, adding oil to conditioners, oils as a prepoo..... All do absolutely nothing for my hair. I guess we're the outcast weirdo's

I think it may be evoo, i have repalced this with sweet almond, much lighter and nicer.
Also i prefer oils generally as prepoo or mix with conditioner. Although sweet almond oil still works for me as sealant.

ITA using oil alone even my beloved castor leaves my hair dryyyyyy.

i like to mix oil with creamy leave-ins too. My latest concoction: silicon mix leave in, S-curl and a little jojoba oil. very nice.

ETA: the ingedients diluted in water

I used to think that oils did nothing to my hair or make it worst untill I tried using oil after shampooing but before conditioning; it makes my hair soft and enable me to detangle EASILY. my hair is about 70% natural and detangling my hair usually takes over a hour, with alma oil as a "oil rinse" I can detangle my whole head and braid each section in like 10 minutes.

Wow. Thanks for the replies everyone! I had forgot to check back to see if anyone replied to my first thread!

When was the last time you clarified or chelated?
I can't remember...
Are you using a liquid or creme based moisturiser?

I use either/or both
How often do you actually moisturise your hair?

I try to moisturize daily or every other day
How much oil are you using?

In the shower maybe 1/4 cup...after wash about a tbsp
When are you using them?

see above
What is your overall routine?
Well as far as a regimen goes...
I wash 2x's a week and DC with heat 1 or 2 x's a week. I swith between moisture and protein. I henna once every 2 weeks. I try to moisturize (creme, leave in, water) every other day.

I clarified once that I can remember. I did an ACV rinse but my hair was super hard and tangled after that. Is a baking soda rinse considered clarifying?

Oh... and I do put the oil on after shampoo and before I conditioner.
