OK Thin Haired Ladies, help me out! I have been roller setting for the past three weeks now that I've learned how to do it, and I was discouraged this morning when I had to sweep the floor after I finished. There were little broken hairs EVERYWHERE!

I am at 9 weeks post, and I am wondering if the shedding is due to my need for a relaxer (texlax) or too much manipulation.

The thinkg is...I can't go back to bunning because that was breaking my hair off, and I feel so much more confident with the roller set ( I was sick of the buns).

Could it be that I need to pin my hair up? Could wearing it down be the culprit? What do ya'll think?:nono:

What have you been washing/conditioning your hair with? I think you need to change that up. More deep conditioning, protein treatment, something has to change at the sink.

You will have to tell us your products and techniques to help you, but I have posted my initial thoughts below for you.

MizzBrown suggests a protein and I do too; albeight a light protein like Nexxus Keraphix or ORS Mayonnaise as a deep conditioner, THEN follow that with a moisturizing conditioner like Humectress or Capilo Avocado.
I haven't tried it yet, but Pantene Relaxed & Natural Breakage Defense Mask might work for you too. Heavy protein should be your last resort if you have thin hair. If you have a hair stylist you trust, let him/her perform the heavier protein treatment after the real issue is diagnosed.

This could very well be the case. I can only stretch to 7 weeks tops or it is "breakage city!" Even my hair stylist who believes in stretching does not want me to go longer than that because the two textures (I am "texlaxed" because I have thin hair) are too different which causes the breaking.

Switch up your styles; one week an "updo" with just clips (no bun) and the next your rollerset. Treat your hair very gently. "Messy" updos can be very pretty as a daily style.
I have been practicing with clips and "Good Days" Hair Pins, barrettes, etc. and I get lots of compliments and I work in a very large corporate enviroment that stresses "dress for success" attire and style.

Ok Here's my regimen: On Wednesdays I pre-poo with hair mayonaise and conditioner wash with a mixture of NTM Daily Deep Conditioner, Honey, EVOO, Peppermint Oil, and Cayenne Pepper). I add some NTM leave in, serum and roller set.

On Saturdays I wash with NTM Shampoo and Deep Condition with ORS Replenishing Pak for 20 minutes with heat. I then proceed to roller set.

My hair was feeling a little "mushy" so this week I switched my Saturday deep conditioner to Aphogee 2 Minute Keratin Reconstructor to try to get some strength to it. I may even try the "hard core" Aphogee if it keeps shedding.

I had read a few posts that too much Neutrogena Triple Moisture products can build up on the hair and cause breakage. Try clarifying (if you haven't already) and take a break from NTM to see if that is the culprit. I also suggest you get your relaxer touch-up too before you experience more breakage and THEN do the reconstructor.

From the last time that I stretched, I learned that washing/cw less prevents shedding and breakage, for ME. I am 9 weeks post again and I have been washing prob every two weeks and when I do, it's in ponytails, no shampoo. My hair is already hard as H*LL to detangle, so doing this also helps to keep my hair from coming out.

I just finished doing my rollerset and it probably took me an hour, because I was EXTRA CAREFUL with detangling and getting the hair smooth. I lost very little hair.
