What is it and how is it done?

I hear about from a lot you ladies but i have no clue on how it should be done, what products are used and so forth. TIA

I've seen a tutorial on it being used while wrapping your hair. You wrap your dry hair and out saran wrap on it, sit under a hood dryer for 20-30 minutes. From what I hear, it's the dominican way to make your hair soft, shiny, and have that bounce and swing. I personally haven't tried it yet though. I will though. visit www.healthytextures.com they have a video on it.

Saran wrap is a brand name for plastic wrap aka cling film or cling wrap.

This stuff:

I have used it to wrap my head turban style as my way of baggying, in lieu of using a plastic cap or plastic bag. I believe a lot of people use it in baggying whether doing it full head like I do or just baggying the ends underneath a fake pony.

The saran wrap treatment works...my old stylist used to do it on me and it gave me white girl swing :lachen:. Im going to do it myself for my home roller wraps, but I have to buy some saran wrap. I was so mad the other day when I was all set to do it and found out I didnt have any!

Is it the same thing as a silk wrap. I know some use it for straighter look to their hair.

Thanks for the video link as well.

Im looking for allternative way to keep hair straight without direct heat on relaxed hair.

Neala, Saran wrap is not a method of doing anything. It is the name of plastic wrap used to keep food fresh. Many people use plastic wrap on their heads in place of a plastic cap for deep conditioning or just baggying. We use it as a verb the same way one might say, I'm going to Hoover my house meaning clean the house using a Hoover vacuum cleaner. So when we Saran wrap our hair/heads, we just mean we wrap plastic film/wrap around our heads.

So do i use everything like a regular wrap - wet hair and apply setting lotion and a bit of oil then wrap and then apply the saran wrap and sit under a hooded dryer!?

I want swang without having to blowdry and flat iron every single time i wash. TIA

I know what the saran wrap is as far as item. But I see post from ladies on here and other forums saying they used saran wrap to wrap their hair to get a nice straight swang to their hair. Just wasn't sure how they did it.

As far as was it done as final step after wrapping their hair using setting lotion or another way.

Actually it is done on dry hair...but u know u might be on to something! U might be able to air dry or dry under the hood with a wet wrap (no saran wrap yet), and when its dry then saran wrap it and go back under the dryer for 10 or 15 minutes and Ill bet it will give u silkier hair! You should try it.

The way most people do it is they rollerset and dry under the dryer, then wrap their hair, saran wrap the wrap, and go back under the dryer for a few more minutes for silkiness/shine/body/,movement.

This is how I do it. I rollerset my hair and either airdry it or sit under the dryer once it's dry I add a bit of moisturizer and wrap it and put the saran wrap on top. I sit under the dryer for 15 mins. Once it's done it's so soft and smooth. At first I didn't know if it would do anything but when I tried it:spinning: I was hooked.

Okay. Thanks, this really help.

I think i might try it as a wet wrap with my own twist to see results and play around with it. Otherwise I will try on dry hair as describe by the ladies. Thanks so much!!!

Your hair is so pretty Bright but I'm afraid I would sweat my hair out under the dryer with plastic on it!! I'm thinking I'd have to wash it all over again....

Anyone else have that problem? (I haven't tried it yet, but I sweat in my hair so I can only imagine)

Trust me, Im a sweater too...u wont sweat! Its just sealing in moisture/infusing shine into your hair. It gives u a look as if it were flat ironed except there is more body and movement.

just dont stay under the dryer longer than 10-15 minutes. I began sweating around my hairline after about 10 min. It totally works though! :yep:

I tried it after watching Macherieamour's video clip. I have to tell you, I was skeptical. I actually curled my hair with hot curlers instead of the rollerset. Then I wrap it and placed the saran wrap on and sat under the dryer for 15 minutes. My hair has never been so soft, silky and bouncy. It looked like it was professionally done. I got so many compliments. It works! :yep:

I haven't done it since because I'm trying to stay away from direct heat and rollersetting seems like such a chore.:ohwell:

Ya know...thats actually a great idea if u ever have to go somewhere at the last minute and need your hair to look nice but dont have time to start from scratch. I wonder if this would work with a caruso set......Im gonna try it!

Like stated before do sit longer than 10 to 15 minutes, and lower the heat a little.

I must have done something wrong becuse when I did the saran wrap my hair was damp after I took off the saran wrap and all my curls were gone. What did I do wrong>

When I do saran wraps I do it like this also because I dont rollerset my hair. It comes out great for me. Once I tried doing it by wet wrapping my hair and then putting the saran wrap on and sitting under the dryer. It came out okay looking but it was somewhat frizzy, I probably need to get the right product combo together.

I'm a head sweater too but once you wrap the hair make sure it is rolled off your edges if you are a sweater and poke holes in it with a rat tail comb to vent. This is what they do to me at the salon and I still get to swangin when I'm done. It works amazingly.

:lachen:..............u are too funny! I think u have a backup career in comedy.

Okay so i did the wrap. I like saran wrap. I had to do some changes because wet wrapping was out of the question due to hair thickness challenges even after a fresh relaxer. So I let it dry under my dryer by doing a banded ponytail. Then flat iron and then wrapped.

Results were great but i realized my ends aren't so good. But the saran wrap is a keeper. Next time I am going to try it by doing a rollerset just for comparison to see which gives me a better turn out.

If i can get over the thick hair challenge i will try wet wrapping - let that dry then saran wrap and see how it turns out.
