Alrighty..don't stone me..I know there are several cold weather hair tips...but what are you doing RIGHT now to keep your tresses from losing out with the cold weather? Not just NY...all cold states!

I absolutely don't comb my hair or mess with it at all until it's warmed up after coming inside.

Also lots of extra moisture. Lots of it. Probably almost excessive but my hair doesn't like winter.

I've also been doing DC's where I warm up my DC mix in the microwave first. I don't know if that actually helps or if it's just that it's soothing.

I started using a heavier moisturizer (ors olive oil lotion), and keep my hair pinned up during the day.

I also warm up my DCs because it feels good :look:

How do you get away with wearing a hat? I love hats, I have recently stopped wearing braids and have changed to protective styles. Will I have to give up my winter hat? Can somebody give me some ideas of how I can cover my head without messing up my hair?

Try a silk scarf tied loosely under your hat.

I have been wearing my hair up EVERYDAY, which I hate. :nono:

But every morning when I get the urge to wear it down, I think about it snagging on my sweater or blowing in the cold air. :nono:

I think it is going to be up all winter because I am at that tricky length right at the shoulder.

Wig has officially landed back on my head as of today...folks won't see my hair again until springtime...:look:

I've gone to heavier moisturizers(butter mixtures) and am having braids put in(90% sure of this decision) to help me through the winter. This way I can apply my growth aids and not worry about my hair being weighed down.

Stella, you may want to look for satin lined hats or line them yourself.

Do you know where to purchase satin lined hats? I was thinking of sewing a doo rag inside one of my hats to test that out..

One word: Buns

You can put it in the back, to the side, up high, down low. Neat. Messy. I do them all. Oh, and loads of moisturizer and coconut oil.

I do not live in a cold state, but it has been cold here the last three days 32 degrees when I wake up. Of course, being from Chicago, that is not really cold to me (I actually love it) especially after the 102 degrees we had for so many days this past summer. However, I digress.....My hair was really dry yesterday. Tuesday and Wednesday evening, I sprayed on Ojon revitalizing mist and sealed with my avocado-camellia oil mix, but last night I had to bring out the big guns -- my shea, mowrah, murumuru, coffee, cupuaca (sp?) butter mixture. When I use butters in the summer, they just make my hair sticky and tacky, but I slathered it on last night after rinsing and it feels great today. When the weather is cold, oils just do not do anything for my hair. I have to use a heavy butter mixture. It is the exact opposite in warm weather, I cannot use butters....

A humidifyer really helps in the cold weather. My hair used to be so dry in the winter time, I have one at work and I'll be getting one for my house too. It really helps if you have sensitie skin and sinuses too...

I have started using castor oil. Kinda heavy, I know, and I wouldn't do it if I didn't have braids, and if I wasn't natural, but it works for me!

GRANTED, I have to sleep with a towel :perplexed (My SO asked me why I do it...He makes the bed, so I figured I should tell him what would happen if I don't!)

I'm worried aabout having WET hair this winter - from my spray moisturizers. Could my hair actually freeze by going outside?

I thought this was going to say "Use a half baked apple on yor hair for moisture". I was gonna say if you combine that with the caramel treatment, you'd have moisturized hair AND a snazzy snack!

Thanks y'all.:lachen::lachen:Don't be surprised if someone does come up with such a thing! I agree with the castor oil-I use BB-{later for that Jam. black-hyped up price}..BB seems to agree with my hair in the suddenly colder weather. I'm prepared for the second year of
STUPID comments about my 'granny' scarves..don't care..I want my hair to be calm and protected. I moisturize as soon
as I hit the bathroom, add the BB
product then style into my bun
or braid-lastly I smooth on my Keo=Karpin oil, silk scarf---set to go.

I put a little castor oil on my my hair before I walk out of the door in the mornings. My hair stays supple and shiny. :yep:
