What do you do to keep great looking twists?
1. What products do you use to twist? How do you get them to look "juicy?" I mix Carol's Daughter Healthy Hair Butter with her Mimosa Hair Honey for the best results for my twists. To me, "juiciness" comes from the thickness of your hair. I dont think that there is anything special you can do to attain it.

2. Do you twist wet or dry? Do you blowdry the hair first?
I twist my hair sopping wet with water and leave-in and drenched in product. That method keeps my hair shiny and looking moisturized for two weeks or more. I think that blowdrying first defeats the purpose of twists being a protective style and is a unneccesary step in my opinion:rolleyes:

3. How do you maintain them during the week?
I dont do anything but sleep in a silk bonnet. Every four days or so I may spray my hair with diluted leave in spiked with rosemary and peppermint to "refresh" my scalp. I use a lot of product on the front end so it really doesn't require maintenence.

4. How long do you keep twists in before they look ratty?
Now that my hair is getting longer, I can keep my twists in for two weeks and then wear a twist out for the third week. I may redo my front row of twists around the second week just to keep it looking fresh. Im thinking about stretching this set to four weeks :spinning:

5. Do you style your twists?
Yep, sure do. I use bobby pins do do the half up half down or pin some to the side...I even pinned them all up the other night when I was going out for a bday dinner...it was a sassy sexy style :look: I got lots o' compliments.

6. Any other tips?
Yep, the smaller your coils...the better your twists....and the smaller your twists the longer they last and also practice makes perfect. When I first started twisting my hair....I looked crazy to go out of the house...now over a year later...people ask me "who does your twists...I love how you always wear your hair." So yea...practice practice practice until you find what works. Twists rule!! I love them.

Thanks

1. What products do you use to twist? How do you get them to look "juicy?" I use a spray bottle with water based moisturizer, mimosa hair honey and loc butter by Carol's Daughter
2. Do you twist wet or dry? Do you blowdry the hair first? I twist on wet hair, I don't blowdry it, I let it airdry
3. How do you maintain them during the week? During the week I just spray some more moisturizer on it, and seal with oil, I do this at night before going to bed, I put my satin scarf on so it doesn't look ratty
4. How long do you keep twists in before they look ratty? one week, but I'm trying to make that two weeks
5. Do you style your twists? sometimes, I'm still workin' on that
6. Any other tips? sleep with a satin scarf and be careful when moisturizing your hair, do it very gently to avoid the ratty look
Thanks

Hope this helps

ORS Lock and Twist Gel or Fantasia IC Gel

I twist my hair wet

Sleep on a satin pillowcase. I wear a bonnet if I remember

For those who twist....

Do you wash your hair while in twist? Especially if you leave them in 3 to 4 weeks.
Also, I hear some people start braiding at the root then twist, does this help them last longer?

I have twist in my hair now and this was my first time trying, they don't look too great, they are already frizzy and I did them on Saturday.

I've been twisting my hair recently but I have the same problem too because i wash during the week. I haven't been able to go longer than 1 week without it looking fuzzy.

1) What do you do to keep great looking twists?

Twirl each strand first before wrapping it around the other gives me firm neat twists. CWing them and letting them drip dry or towel drying before putting them in a style ensures they hang down straight (drip dry) or are "elastic" enough to stretch into a style (when dry they don't stretch much). If I Saran wrap a style every night, it looks even better the next morning. Even just wearing a plastic cap seems to freshen a style I have them locked in.

2) Do you twist wet or dry? Do you blowdry the hair first?

Always dry. No I do not blowdry first. Irony though is, as soon as I'm done twisting, I CW them because I like the way they look after a wash.

3) How do you maintain them during the week?

As long as I baggy at night, I don't seem to need to do much. I just CW when I need to change up the style I'm wearing them in.

4) How long do you keep twists in before they look ratty?

I honestly don't pay attention. The only time I actually did was when I took a photo of twists I had worn for 4 weeks (8 washes). I then started to redo them one at a time as time allowed, till all were freshly done. Since I don't complete that process in one day or even a week, there's no telling how long the very last ones to be freshened were on my head before I got to them. If there's one person who hates watching the clock/calendar...timing stuff, it's me. I don't know how long it takes to grow my hair from X to Y, or to go from X pounds to Y pounds. Filling my head with other trivia is more exciting to me. :giggle:

5) Do you style your twists?

Yes. Do braidouts on them, put them up in updos with bobby pins or a simple cornrow, wear them in pigtails. I basically treat them the way I would my hair if it were loose.

6) Any other tips?

I don't know if this has anything to do with anything but I don't use products when in twists. CWing and baggying seems to fill my moisture needs, and my hair never knots or mats or tangles. I know when I used to get braids and used grease, that used to somewhat create a mat at the base of the braids made of grease, dirt and shed hair. I don't know if not having products is why my strands seem to stay separated, but just wanted to throw that out there. I probably would do well to seal my ends though...but I'm still on formula, so baby steps. Or maybe I should stay, I'm still learning to sit, coz this baby ain't making a move anywhere yet. :lachen:

I took everyone's advice and just did two practice twist. They came out great. First I re-wet the hair and put moisturizer and oil on it. Then I gently combed it out. Next I started off with a braid then twisted it. They turned out much better than then when I originally did them. See the attached pic. I think I may redo all off them tonight.
