Is This Right?

Hi Ladies

I am so mad I went to JC Penney’s styling salon to get my hair flat ironed. I was told by the stylist that she would do a press and curl. I was not happy but I said okay because I really needed my hair done. But here is where things really get bad I just happen to look out of the corner of my eye and the stylist had my hair stretched out in her hand and was getting ready to cut it and she did not even get my permission to do so. I yelled out PLEASE don’t cut my hair and she said oh I was just going to trim your ends. I called back to speak with Management about this type of behavior. Do you ladies think I am overreacting or is this the way they do it now in the salons?

I am so sorry this happened to you. I have a stylist at Pennies and she flat irons my hair when I get my touch-ups so I don't know why they didn't do yours. Anywho I don't think u overreacted it's your hair and she should have asked, anywho good thing you caught her.

Unfortunately...this is the case for most stylists that I know. Unless you specifically ask them not to trim/cut your hair, they'll do it. At least you stopped her before it was too late. BTW, how did your press and curl turn out?

My press and curl was okay but not as straight as I would have liked it. I also forgot to mention that they charged me $50.00 for that press and curl plus tip. On a positive note I did my first henna and indigo treatment last Thursday and it went very well I think next time I will add some EVOO to my mix. I just want you ladies to know that I have learned so much from all on you on these boards and I am very grateful. Before I started my health hair journey I never new anything about the difference between moisture and oil and protective hair styles and the sad part was I had been going to the salon for years and never seeing any results.

I think you did the right thing. Your stylist should have definitely asked you if you wanted your ends trimmed or cut. Even though someone is a so called professional they simply can't just do what they want to do and then charge you for the service. That trim may have been an additional $15 or so to your bill, surprise! Standing up to them left you with hair on your head and money in your pocket.

I don't think you overreacted. A hair trim or cut is not automatic and shouldn't be performed without permission from the client.

I'm a pretty laid back, nice person (sometimes TOO nice) but I woulda went the *** off on her! How dare she try to cut your hair without even saying anything! I'm glad you caught that *****!

No, I don't think you overreacted. Just because she was a stylist and you were paying her to do your hair does not give the right nor permission to cut or trim your hair without you asking first. She should have known better. I've never been to a stylist who hasn't asked for my permission to give me a cut or trim. I think you did the right thing. God only knows how many other people she's done like that.

NOPE! IT'S YOUR HAIR. U SUPPOSE TO TAKE CONTROLL OVER THE SITUTATION. I KNOW MY SISTER IS LIKE THAT. IF SHE WASN'T, I BET HER HAIR WOULD BE ALL JACKED UP!

Its not normal at all. When I went to salons I never had a stylist try to cut my hair without asking. And when I was in cosmetology school I never tried to cut someone's hair without asking. If they had crazy differences in length or damage I would suggest a trim, but if they said no I just moved on to the next part of the service.

It always seemed to me that if someone (for whatever reason) isn't willing/ready to cut their hair its unethical to force it on them.
