Is the PIbb 514 better than the 512?

I think the Pibbs 514 hood is supposed to be a little bigger then the 512. I'm really not sure though:look:. I own the 514 and I LOVE it! Very roomy...I use the gray and purple rollers and I still have space:yep:.

I own the 512 but from what I've heard the diffrences are small. The 514 has actual temperatures on the dial while the 512 has low meduim ect. They both have timers. The 512 dries quickly too, it dries my thick bra strap lengnth hair in 45 min. I chose the 512 because there pretty similar and it's $100 less.

Kari...you get your hair dry in 45 MINUTES?!! Please tell me how...my hair is a little past BSL and super thick. It takes at least 90 minutes for me which is still faster that it would w/ a normal dryer. TIA!

1) Thank you for the 512 info. I was having the same rationale, especially when I'm not a major rollersetter.

2) You have absolutely drop dead gawjeous hair. My....friggin....goodness... wowsa.. :Flahsssss:Flahsssss

I have a 45 min. limit because I'm so impatient and I hate sitting under the dryer. I admit sometimes it is slightly damp but 45 min. usually does the trick. I use larger rollers to help it dry a little quicker. I wish I could go for even larger rollers but I know my big head won't fit under the dryer.

^^^Yes, Miss_Cherokee-that's the 512. I love the dryer but I have been more frustrated lately because when I set with extra large rollers for my roller wrap, it's darn near impossible to squeeze into the hood. If the 514 is bigger, I think it's worth it in the long run. I'm already ready to upgrade for a bigger hood

If you decide to sell your 512 to upgrade please let me know!:yep:

The 514 is what they have at my salon.... I called Pettrucelli's and they said the hood size was the same between the 512 and 514. The main diff was the the 514 had higher wattage and had faster airflow.

I'm also looking at the Parlux 518 that may have a bigger good. This is fmrly the Pibbs 518.

I'll prob pick up the 512 or 514 tho...

Vevster, I was also looking into the 518. THe only thing I'm concerned about is that IDK if you can use the 518 for deep treatments. Do you know if you can? I've been trying to pull up old threads on this but I can't seem to find any info. The only thing I remembered was that the 518 dries on cool air only.

There is no difference between the two. I got that information from a beauty equipment supplier who has done business with and sold Pibbs for over 20 years. The only difference is that the 512 does not have exact temp settings in degrees like the 514. The 512 has the Hi-Med-Lo settings with little increments between to adjust the temp. He didn't mention anything about the hood size on the 514 being larger. In pictures they look exactly the same to me. I have the 512 and I love it.

I am near Apl and I dry in 30-35 minutes. I dry my hair on medium too and have never used the high setting at all. Have not needed to.

*sigh* I'm tryin to wait to hit shoulder length before getting a Pibbs but ya'll are making me to want to just splurge for the 514!!!!

Being able to dry your hair in under an hour?!?!? My hair is barely neck length and when I would go to the salon it would seem like I was under there for at least an hour. Crazy.... :nono: I'm thinking w/ the Pibbs I could be done in like 25 mins. That is sounding so good right about now.

Sorry to hijack....

So basically you can get the same drying time on the Pibbs 512 as you would on the 514? And is the difference in the temp settings really that big of a deal? The price for the 512 seems like a steal compared to that of the 514.

I think it depends on your personal needs/preferences. I like the ability to fine tune the temperature, because of my dry/sensitive scalp, I can change the temperature, so that my hair gets dry without drying my hair and scalp out. The cool temperatures, I like to use at the end for a really smooth and silky set.

I'm going this Saturday and I will try and find out for you. I'll update this thread.

To repeat what has been covered the only difference between the 512 & 514 is the temp. dial on the 514, the 512 has red dots and a the low, med, hi temp. I use a mixture of purple & Grey rollers on my head and fit well under the dryer.

Thank you neonbright. I think this may just help me make my decision to go ahead and save the extra $100 and get the 512. I can deal without having the actual temp settings.

I really need one, but I'm afraid that as I upgrade from light green rollers to the next biggest size that my head wont fit underneath it anyway.
