so my last touch up was aug. 27th and today i have about an inch of ng. i've been stretching. and this is week 7. i'm going for 9 and half. i've been washing and dc'ing once a week. but last week when it was time to do a slight comb thru b4 i rollersat (it was my first time rollersetting) i noticed that alot of my hair was coming out. in my opinion. the strands were long and i waited for them to dry while i was under the dryer, then i counted each of them and checked to see if they had a bulb at the end. i counted 65 strands, 54 with bulbs at the end and 4 split ends. then later on that night i went to moisturize and and baggy my ends and i counted another 45 strands. i was very worried. so i've decided to delay my wash this weekend until about wed. during the week i baggy everynight and wear my hair up in a clip in the daytime. no combing. and virtually no shedding or breakage. so i don't know if what happened during that wash was an accumulation of the hair that would have shed had i combed that week, or the seasons changing or my hair saying it's time for a touch up. what does this mean? and should i skip on washing this week?

Well, it is normal to shed about 100 strands per day so I wouldnt worry too much about it since this was the first time you combed your hair in about a week.

I agree with lexi84. The hair that you would have shed in a week all came out in one day. I only comb my hair once a week, on wash days, so I lose all my shed hair on wash days.

Girl where have you been? I have been wondering what happen to you and was checking your fotki for updates:) Welcome back:)

Aloha!
Sounds like you shouldn't be worried...however, you might want to be careful of the size and edges of your comb. When you've got so much new growth, your fingers are the best combs around...

I used to use a small tooth comb to "brush" my edges a while ago and yep...i paid the price...now anything going through my hair undergoes XRAYS...lol :lachen: (im obsessed with this smiley...lol)

Girl, I havent been far. I'd log in about once a month, and lurk. Then my subscription ran out and since I wasnt on here as much anymore I wasnt in any hurry to renew it. Now i'm back because alot of my hair was pulled out during an altercation. :nono: Thank God it grew right back, but the incident made me refocus my attention to my hair Now I'm obsessed with it again.:lachen:

Pulled out during an altercation??:pullhair:Geesh, what kind of fight did you get into? I'm so sorry to hear this happened to you and I'm glad it grew back for you. That's a lot of damage to your scalp and roots to have something like that done. Just for that, I hope you beat her (or him :lachen:) down:grin:

Girl, don't get scared or discouraged. For about 2 weeks, I tried the lo-manipulation thing. I didn't comb my hair or brush it. I'd pull it into a bun, ponytail, or cute updo and go. On wash days during both weeks, I found that I lost more hair during washing than I did any other time. Why? Because all that dead/shed hair I didn't get rid of during the week had built up and was ready to finally come out. So not only did I lose the old shed hairs, but I was losing new ones too. Also, at one point or another, you're bound to go through somewhat of a seasonal shedding period. I found this out last year when I freaked out about losing hair and didn't know what to do. Unfortunately, shedding is a natural process and there isn't much we can do to stop it. Once the hair has reached the end of it's growing cycle, it has to detach from the root and fall from the head. If you go a week without getting rid of those shed hairs, they all come out in 1 day as opposed to coming out over 1 week. But this isn't something to worry about. Shedding is a completely natural process.

This happens to me too ( I usually stretch for 10 weeks). Are you detangling really well before and during your washes? Also, you may want to up your protein around week 7 since I have found for me that's when my shedding and breakage really picks up. HTH

I'm so sorry for taking over your thread!!!

Guuuurl! It was self defense. I'm not a fighter, but when somebody disrespects me, I say my piece. Apparently, she didnt like that I wasnt sitting down and taking her BS, so it quickly escalated from words to her grabbing my hair. This was the first time I had ever met the chick and she was being rude to me all night. When she grabbed my hair, I figured out why she was picking on me. Jealousy.

But on the low, I didnt win. I cant fight LOL!!! :lachen: :realitycheck:
