I have my first appt scheduled for tomorrow . I am so nervous. I went by to see the salon today and was impressed. I don't know what I thought it would look like. :ohwell: Anyway, is there a certain protocol? I tried to look around and see if they carried Dominican products. I saw a few Biolage bottles but was too overwhelmed to get a good look around. I am getting a set and blowout.
What should I expect?
What should I ask for?

There is a Dominican salon in the area? Where is it, Steph?

well the one I am going to is on the southwest side of Detroit=Harlets. I do remember searching roundhairbrush.com and there is one on South State street =

I got that from the site so I don't know if they are good or not.

Please remember to post your experience or PM me!

It depends on how you like your hair. I like to keep body in my hair so I get a set and then I just get my roots blown out. I have always had good experiences with the Dom shops in regards to wash and sets. Be careful with any chemical treatments but that is true of any salon.

Oh ok I was gonna get a set. SO wait the blowouts are the whole strand or the roots?

The first time I went I got a steam treatment (deep conditioner)and a rollerset...after coming out from the dryer....my hair was curly and dry, then she blowdried my roots for about 5 mins...after that she used a flat iron for about 5 mins...it turned out gorgeous....:yep:then my mom and sister went and they didn't roller set them..:perplexed(we are all natural) they blow dried them from wet:nono::nono: they both vowed not to go back as that heat from the blow dryer.....its so freakin' HOT!!!!! Its got to be damaging...I wld NEVER let them blow dry me from wet.....I would ask for a rollerset:yep:

Yeah you can have your whole head (length) blown out or like alot of us just get a normal rollerset w/ just the roots blow out.

You can get either the wholelength blownout or just the roots. Up to you. I prefer to just get the roots blown out, because I heard that if you keep getting the whole length done, over time it thins out your hair. Plus when you only get the roots done, it leaves you hair with more of a bounce. One tip, braced yourself for the blow out! That blow dryer is HOT!!!!!!! FIRE!!!!! IT BURNS!!!! But that's how they get your hair straight and oh so purty!!

see I was thinking of getting the full blowout but I dunno. I have pretty thick hair so Iam not worried about that. I am worried about becoming addicted though!.

I alternate between a blow out and roots only. If you write blow out on the sheet, that's what you'll get; after you get out from under the dryer, they'll roundbrush your hair straight and bump it at the end. If you write roots only, they'll only blow the roots. Since you're already dry, most don't apply the heat to your hair for very long and always remember, you have to right to ask for what you do and don't want. I've only seen on rare occasion where they've used a flat or curling iron on the hair after blow drying, but if she goes to do that and you don't want it, speak up. My lady already knows I don't play that heavy oil or oil sheen ish so when she gets ready to put on the gotas brillo, she'll just say "un poquito, no?" Anyway, be very specific and even after you sign in and write what you want (unless you've made an appointment), just follow up and confirm they know and understand what you want.

see I need a spanish lesson...what are some other terms/phrases?

Bumping for the morning ladies. I am nervous. I think I am going to leave a litle early so I can try to find a beauty supply over there. Wsh me luck. I have proof pics of my hair before just in case too!:grin:

Yea, gotas de brillo is shine serum and "un poquito,no?" means "a little, right?" Uh, lemme see...some of the girls in Harlett's speak English just as plain as you so I wouldn't be too concerned. If you think your stylist doesn't understand what you're saying, she or you can ask one of the others to translate. When I first started going (Not to Harlett's but another), I never said anything in Spanish just to see what they were talking about, if they were professional, etc...so far, no bad experiences. One lady I go to just hit me w/the comb when one day I answered her questions in Spanish :lachen:

I usually only go to the Dominican salon on special occasions, but when I do, I always ask the stylist to blow out my roots only. The heat is no joke! :nono: My hair always turns out incredible!

ok I am back home. It was cool, I would go again. She washed it and then add some La Emergencia. I went under the dryer with a plastic cap for about 10 minutes. She rinsed and rolled it with the biggest rollers I have ever seen!

When she took them out, it was so pretty. I was tempted to leave it like that ot just get a roots only. Nope, I wanted the full blowout to satisfy my curiousity. She sprayed some stuff in an clearbottle with orange label on imy roots. (I noticedall the labels are turned so you can't seewhat it is:look:. ) Then, she asked did I want it curly or straight (straight), flat iron or dryer (dryer). Did I want it up or down (down-I assumed she meant a flip). She grabbed the brush and started. I kept waiting for this big smoke cloud and that burnthair smell I used to get yrs ago, never happened. She was very fast and I was done in about 20 minutes. Oh, she pincurled each section after she round brushed it. WHen she was finished she sprayed some shine on it and handed me a comb. I thanked her but ran my fingers through it instead.

Overrall, I really don't think it a huge amount of heat. I have seen more in my own bathroom with my Maxiglide and definitely when I used to blow dry it (along with that awful burnt smell). I did feel that dang dryer heat on my edges though...whew. I dunno if it was the bristles or the heat but D&*n it! I would post a picture but it is humid today and I wrapped it before it "swole"...I guess I can't avoid that darn reversion.:nono:

I have to admit,I feel like a million bucks. I feel the weight of my hair on my back. She got it so straight, the layers don't even look noticeable. Next time, I am gonna try the roller wrap. I know my rollerset look NOTHING like hers

I'm so glad you liked it!! :D :D I really want to try it out soon... do you mind me asking how much they charge? Was there a wait time? Is it straight like w/ no bump? I called a bit ago to see if they do short hair and Harlet said they do.....

It is pretty humid today, I got my hair all pinned up. :nono: That's Michigan weather for ya..!

She charged me 30 bucks! No wait time. I hate going under the dryer b/c my hair is thick it takes forever for me (close to 1 1/2 hrs). No bump it looks like a really pretty flat iron but more flowy. Harlets hair is neck length in the back if that helps any. I wanted to ask all the "brown" girls there if they were Niko's cousin.

And the humidity, man I feel like a guy when they say everytime they wash their car it rains. Well, every time I flat iron or get my hair cute, its humid:wallbash:

That was the conditioner she used on my hair. Still trying to find the other stuff she sprayed. When I asked what it was so I could buy it she showed me Nexxus brilliante spray and Biolage serum:rolleyes: The net is an amazing thing. Here is the spray she used:

Next time I am going to take my CHI Silk Infusion and maybe a different conditioner. They had a lot of AlfaParf products as well.

Okay kewl, $30 isn't bad! :D I guess I'll just have to give it a shot and see how it turns out.. :yep:

It seems soo weird to me that ppl make appointments for the Dominican salons. Where I live at, for every block, there's usually 3 salons lol.

If your stylist is skilled, the dryer isn't supposed to burn. I've been going to my salon for 6 months and I've NEVER been burned by their hot dryer!
