What is the stupidest thing a stylist has said to you??

I had a stylist tell my friend that a wash and go was bad because it would eventually rot her hair.

I had a stylist tell me that air drying for relaxed hair was damaging and that it requires heat because that is the way the chemical was designed to work.....:ohwell:

I have air dried for over a year and my hair has florished

RZ~

wow... people will say anything to make you think they know what they're talking about :perplexed

Once after I complained to this particular stylist that she was combing my hair too roughly she said you have a lot of hair and can afford to lose some.

That was the last time I stepped foot in that shop again.

Wow, my sister said that to me after I let her blow dry my hair and I showed her how much she had ripped and broke off - because she didn't want to detangle first. That was the first and last time I let her touch my hair. :ohwell:

She saw me after six months (long story) and asked me was I getting my hair professionaly done now, because it had grown so well and looked healthy. I just looked at her "perplexed" and said, "Oh this, no I do this."

I'm not even a fighting type of person, but somebody would have gotten throttled for that comment.

My stylist of many years (pre-lhcf) told me that I had "that kind of hair, that when it passed a certain length (right at shoulder length) it just would get thin and have to be cut."

Well, that would not have been true if she wasn't overprocessing and overlapping my relaxers. She wasn't very scissor-happy, but she relaxed my hair to death which lead to necessary scissor-happiness.

Needless to say, I stopped going to her and my hair took off within months!!!! Surprise, surprise, surprise! :lachen:

Ya'll ever noticed how most stylist are bald-headed?

I get the "are you burning yet" question all the time. I only had one stlyist who was any good. My processed hair flourished under her care but she did not want to do it when I decided to do natural for a while. Lazy cow......:ohwell:

I once had a hair stylist tell me my hair was a little dry. However, she suggested dying it to make it look healthier. Now, maybe other peoples' hair is different, but when I dye my hair it become drier so I have to be very faithful with keeping it conditioned. So, why would I dye it if it is already dry?:perplexed

Another one...about a year ago, before I decided to stop using hairstylists completely, I walked into a salon for a consultation. I asked the lady if she could press my hair. My hair had just been washed and I was rocking a fro. She TUGGED at a section of my hair and said " People with hair like ours cant just press from natural. You have to get it at least texturised, otherwise it CAN NOT get straight." I said thanks and walked out of her shop. She hasn't seen me since:lol:

Aww, I wish people like you with beautiful hair would go back to the doubters and holla. They need to see the luxurious hair:look:

The stylist said the relaxer needed to marinate in my 4z hair. Like marinade, may hair fell right off the bone.

Oh, I was so hurt & depressed yall! It looked like someone had taken a razor and stripped my hair and the edges were just gone all around my head. It looked like they had not been rinsing the relaxer from my edges. I paid her well w/ excellent tips. I was so afraid of hairdressers from previous experiences, but she did a good job w/ the hair of several people from my school including my roommate, so I was really hurt.

Had to add the stylist that severely underprocessed my hair and told me to come back in two weeks and she would redo the relaxer.

I've taken it from all sides with the chemicals.

A stylist once told me you need to let me do your relaxer because I can get your hair straight (i texlax). I told him i like it that way you should have seen the expression on his face.

That permanent color won't cause any damage to my hair. She didn't even qualify that statement with "as long as you take good care of it". nope, just made it sound like relaxer, permanent color, and highlights won't be a problem. :nono:

I went to a new salon to get my texlax touch up, the stylist told me she needed to CUT some BEFORE applying the relaxer 'cause it was too much hair for her to handle'.....uh right..maybe on the 39th of never-ary!!!!

After that experience,I'm an aspiring self-relaxer..

This is why I'm afraid to pay a visit to my old stylist. She was the bomb at putting in a sew-in, but she overprocessed my hair. She always used to say... People are paying me to straighten their hair so I get it straight. Well, mine was super straight and broke off all over the floor.... I've gone natural and relaxed again (texlaxed) since I've seen her. I want to let her do a sew-in for me, but I can already hear her questioning why my hair isn't straight and just let me do a little touch up. Or wanting to trim my hair - and I ain't with that either.

I see its not just me who gets the stupid comments in the salon- its across the board w/all hair types I see. It seems like most of my comments are directly centered around my hair type: "...with hair like yours", "your kind of hair...", Or "...because its so, um, thick and coarse" (guess they think i will be offended if they say nappy)

Me: I want to go natural after I turn 25
Her: Uh uh, you don't have that kind of hair...
Me: :ohwell:

I haven't been back to her in months, I don't need to. I only went to her for rollersets, but I can do that at home. Why should I pay for something I can do at home and have it topped off by bad advice?
