Only in the shower on wet hair with a ton of condish and wide tooth comb

I also use my fingers and try to seperate my hair too, before combing but still w/condish on my hair

I detangled using # 3

On wet hair with conditioner with a WIDE TOOTH comb. Comb out in small sections at a time while conditioner is on it. Then rinse. Unless I am wearing a puff, I put a good sized detangled section into fat plaits as I go and will dry it like that - I usually end up with 10 plaits all over. Otherwise I will have shrunken bush.

When I am ready to style via twists or if I am getting it micro braided, I take one of the braids down as a I go and do it section by section.

ETA: I use the Goody Detangling Comb - here's a link (hope it works); http://www.goody.com/Products/Styling Tools/Combs/Detangling/Detangling.aspx

I only detangle my hair when it's soaking wet w/conditioner. I never comb my hair when it's dry. :nono:

Only when wet (when I'm washing it) I usually use a wide tooth comb (sometimes my fingers) and separate into different sections. Always start combing out from the ends and work your way up. After I detangle each section I twist or braid it and move to the next.
Washing your hair in sections also helps reduce tangles

I only detangle my hair when it is soaking wet with conditioner. I also detangle in sections.

Only when hair is damp with shea butter and Dudley inner growth cream strengthner that I love love love. It slaps the :wallbash:bajesus out of some tangles.

okay here's my issue... i'm a server and we're required to pull our hair back (so no hair gets into someone's food :look: ). and i work 5 days a week, 10 hours a day usually. so... my poor hair is in a puff almost every day except Tuesday and Thursday when i have class or a weekend night when i'm going out and wanna look cute. unfortunately i was lazy today and it's still in a puff... so i have major detangling to do here lately.

i wash, DC under a dryer for 10 minutes, then add more condish and detangle with my wide-tooth comb in sections. after that i rinse and slap on a leave-in, then brush to get any excess hair and tangles. (see my album if you wanna know what kind of brush i use, i don't know how to describe it  )

i'm waiting until after i get my hair straightened and trimmed to get braids... i feel like i'm wasting my time detangling one day just to pull it back into a puff every day after that... but i can't just leave it to become more and more matted either. :nono:

After I pre-poo for 2 hours with Cholesterol and EVOO, I briefly comb out shedded hairs with my K-Cutter. I proceed to shampoo and condition my hair. As I rinse out the conditioner I detangle with my Denman D-4 brush as the water runs through my hair. Works like a charm.

i was doing it with conditioner on it and standing under the shower but was finding plenty of hair in the drain and comb! so now i started to just comb after i towel dry a little with product after i make a small section of hair prior to blow drying. thats working out waaaaay better. i have only a very small fraction of hair in the comb when i'm done!!

For the last month I have not detangle with a comb and I'm loving it!!!! I detangle my hair when it's soaking wet, w/ loads of conditoner, with my fingers. This has been soo good for my hair!!!

I detangle after con wash and deep con hair - while hair is damp. I detangle with my fingers only (haven't used a comb in months) and then add my leave-in products to set my hair in braids/cornrows.

I detangle while my hair is wet with products (MTG on scalp, Giovanni direct leave-in on length of hair, and jojoba oil on ends) in small sections before double-strand twisting.

I only detangle after I have deep conditioned for 15 minutes under the dryer. Then after I rinse the conditioner I stand in front of the mirror and comb out small sections, applying a little regular conditioner to each section. I use a k-cutter first then a denman to get the section smooth. I end up with about 8 braids on each side of my head and I airdry then do a braidout the next day.

I actually detangle twice. First on dry hair with my fingers separating the hair. Occasionally I'll take wide tooth comb to the ends so the tangles can easily escape during the washing process. Then after everything is washed, dc'd, etc., I blot all the water out of my hair, apply a leave in, and proceed to detangle the hair in sections with a wide tooth comb.

ITA... NO COMBS HERE.:yep: Just fingers

I comb my hair wet, and full of Paul Mitchell's, The Detangler, conditioner.

But I don't detangle in the shower, because I find I rush when I do it that way. I also detangle in sections.

As the others said....I detangle while I am in the shower. Right now my hair is in braids. I had twists a couple of days ago, but changed each twist into regular braids. Now when I wash, detangling isn't an issue...I will try to keep them in for the entire month of OCT.

I can relate b/c I wear my hair pulled back almost every day as well...but you're not wasting your time, though. You are saving yourself possible MAJOR tangles.

Recently I found out it's better for me to detangle on dry hair before the wash. I part my hair in four sections then use lots of detangler to wet it down and then a product with lots of slip, detangle each section and braid it up. I take the braids out when I get in the shower. The results are amazing. I loose less hair and get less breakage doing this:yep:.

I've started DC'ing on DRY hair - and I detangle right before I get in the shower to wash the conditioner out. It doesn't really feel like detangling, it feels more like I'm just combing my hair, and getting the shed hairs out. I keep my hair is protective styles all week though, so it doesn't get much of a chance TO tangle. After I comb it through, I put it in a couple of fat braids to go in the shower with - keeping the chance for tangling down to a minimum.....
I'm seeing MUCH less hair in the comb, and much fewer tangles too. Heck, if I keep on like this, I might get comfy enough to start brushing my hair.

Pokahontas,

What kind of detangler do you use? Do you use this in addition to your regular conditioner? Is it is easier to wet it down with water first or do you go straight to to the detangler?

I detangle my wet hair with lots of conditioner using a wide tooth comb and my fingers when the tangles and knots are too much.
