@Angel of the North

How are you going to mention something that YOU know is of great interest to me, and not provide no details?

No video name.

No channel name.

No link.

No nothing.
Thankfully it was easy to find in my history

Yes, but I use less stuff. I'm on a budget. It's called, "jobless".

But really, I use only what I need for my purpose. Shea butter, cocoa butter and olive oil. Then, I'm good!

Thank you for being such a good sport and making things FUN!

Thank you for posting the video for me. I appreciate you @Angel of the North

I want to try going one year without straightening my hair. IDK how that will turn out.
I'm already here. When I straighten some time at the end of the month of April, I'm going to know. Last trim and straighten was April 2025 - done unintentionally due to life changes.

With all these pretty hair photos and product displays, this thread is like a beautiful, yet inescapable vortex.

Now, how did I get here?

Let me think ....

Oh yeah! It was @Yvette 2.0 who reeled me in here hook, line and sinker!

I'm the Queen of de-railing a thread so let me step on out of this one.

Love this thread! Now, back to your original programming.

I'm also on an ongoing no heat journey. I do however sit under the steamer to dc but other than that, my stylist told me not to use any heat in my hair.

I like how much easier and quicker my wash days are with this shorter length. I should've big chopped sooner tbh

@Chicoro, I invited you on purpose! You enhance every thread you enter, lol. Anytime you desire, derail away. You have more than earned the right. ❤️

I think I might be able to wear this wash and go for a whole 2 weeks without loosing definition. I feel like I’m living the lazy naturals dream. There was a little flaking around the edges on day 3 but I just hit that with some hair mascara. It still looks fresh and shiny

That's great to hear, your curls are so shiny and defined, they looked super juicy. If you can get 2 weeks out of it that would be amazing.

I can't remember the exact combination I used (would have to check), but I think it was S Curl, maybe a little moisturising cream followed by The Doux CSC and Big Poppa gel, this was the closest I got to 2 weeks, I washed after about 8 days but, that was my juciest WAG to date. I believe that could have lasted for weeks with a minor touch up here or there.

I'm looking forward to trying out some of my new products for WAG, the Big Poppa Gel is a staple, as is the CSC mousse, there are about 3 or 4 more gels I'd like to try, but I need to wait until I've used up some of the products I already have. I will likely increase to 2 wash days per week just to use stuff up.

Currently on day 7 and I’m still getting compliments. This is a killer combo but is it repeatable?
I started typing this last night, got sode tracked, but it was still here this morning....

I hope you're able to replicate it again, it looks so cute. This is one of the reasons I document what I use and how I use them, I have found on the past when I go off memory alone, I often forget something that changes the redults.

I am transitioning away from cream hair stylers. They take too long to dry, look ashy after a while and flake. Instead I will use leave in and gel and focus more on deep conditioning to have my hair retain moisture

I've found that some creamy moisturisers are marketed as leave ins or leave ins are marketed as moisturisers. I just look at the ingredients and consistency of a product and I can tell if it will likely work for me, reviews can also help too.

We have to do what works for us, DC is great for moisture retention. Conditioner is literally my favourite product because I can do everything with conditioner if necessary, moisturising/leave in, DC and cowashing.

I hope you get the results you want from these tweaks :)

I tried do do a cream wash and go and it was terrible. Flaked on day one. It was snowing when I touched my hair and it looked matte and dry. No bueno.

So I had to rewash my hair

I did the process I was doing last week but changed the leave in to mixed chicks and omitted the cream of nature curl activator.

My hair won’t move lol it was so hard, but I like that because this crunchy wash and go might take me to the two week mark. Next time I will try a moisturizing leave in conditioner though. I’ll post pictures when I get home.

I'm always ready for pics

I'm wondering if it's the type of cream moisturiser you're using? I'm not familiar with the CoN curl activator, but if it's anything like the Cantu curl activator cream, then I can see why you're getting these results.

I find the Cantu Curl Activa6tor Cream too thick, it could also leave you with flakes on regular styles if you're not careful. It feels a little waxy and it's thicker than the Cantu Creamy Hair Lotion, which I like for everyday use but also wouldn't use for a WAG.

The moisturisers I like for my WAGs so far are S Curl, CRN Curl Love and Fresh Curl, they seem to play well with other products. I also use foams/mousses which also contains moisturising.

It maybe a case of finding a lighter cream or one that works better with your gels. You could always mix them on your hand to see how they work together, this is usually a good indicator of how they will mix in your hair.

Hey y’all! I’m peeking in to see if anyone has tips on wearing their hair in an undefined fro (not a wash n go, but a twist/braid out that’s picked/combed out to full length) that doesn’t result in tangled city come wash day? I tried searching for older threads about it, but from what I found, the recommendations are exactly what got me in trouble this time.

My method was to put freshly washed and detangled hair in 12 plaits using a leave-in (seht conditioner) and a styling pomade (the doux’s bonita Afro balm). I let it fully air dry, then picked it out. I didn’t pick it out all the way though, I liked the defined curls at the end, so I only picked through the roots and ends. At night, I rebraided, then in the morning, I spritzed the braids with water, took them down, and picked them out. I only left the style in for 3 days. But on wash day, I had knots down to my ROOTS which I’ve never had before. My hairball was almost all breakage and it was 3x the size of any hairball I’ve had in recent memory.

Do I have to detangle each night? Do I need to blow it out first? I have suuuuuuuuuper tight 4c coils, so I’m wondering if it’s bc I’m leaving too much texture in for a loose style? I tried wearing a shrunken fro for a little bit a few months ago and had similar problem, but nothing this bad.

Or maybe the cause is something I’m not seeing? Idk. Hoping that someone here might!
First of all, the idea for the style sounds gorgeous. I love a more fluffy, undefined look.

I think I would go about it slightly different. I would do a large twistout using a medium hold foam like Nairobi or Design Essentials Compositions. I would probably still use the pick, but I'd focus more on pulling the sections apart to get it big and undefined. Each night I'd put it into mini pineapples and lightly pick it in the morning to fluff it back out. The only product I might add is a light serum. NO spritzing with water.

Other questions: When was your last trim? I think that'd matter a great deal.

Great thread! @Yvette 2.0 All of your photos look great!

I had a brief stint cycling through braids and weaves at the beginning of the year because my hair was so short (unexpected big chop due to heat damage), but I'm back to wearing my own hair now. It'll always be my preferred look on me, even in the simplest styles.

Awww, many thanks, @Rocky91!

I love that that's your preferred look. Beautiful! Glad you were able to grow your hair back out so that you're enjoying wearing it out. I'm grateful I'm natural, even when I miss the length and look of straightened hair.

Thanks for the advice! I haven’t gotten my hands on any shea/cocoa butter yet, but I do have some Crazy Sexy Curl foam from The Doux, so I’m gonna try this method next wash day!

I haven’t tried just fluffing with my hands; I thought that picking was an integral part of the process. That definitely would curb the tangling issue I had.

And my last trim was in November. But honestly, I haven’t seen any splits in my wash day hairballs since then. I have had ssks pop up esp after wearing my hair loose, but those get cut out asap.

Happy wash day!

Just curious: What's making you want to try it? (I love its scent).
I'm almost out of conditioner & the stylist I'm trying out recommended it. I like simple styles so I'm not sure if i should really pay $13 for a conditioner. While we're on the subject of hair, I paid $265 for my current style which is too much imo. I ended up canceling my May appt.

my coworker recommended me a different stylist who charges $60 for natural styles which is my kinda budget.

Salon prices have definitely increased over the years, I can't think of any style I'd be willing to pay that much for myself. I hope the new salon works out for you.

I think $13 is reasonable for a conditioner, especially if it works well. If it's not in your budget to commit to that cost on a regular basis, you could always try finding a dupe or something similar.

A few notes:

I used a heat protectant. Even though i use my dryer on the lowest setting, I want extra protection.

i only used a small amount of leave in to coat the hair followed by a light amount of miche gel and then slathered on the curl activator and xiomara gel. Then I sprayed with water. this got me some juicy curls.

I diffused with my new airlight pro dryer and my hair just felt supple but still extreme hold.

the curl activator is needed for these products to work together. i tried just using gel last week and had a hot flakey mess.

Also the golden haze miche gel works better than the original but i dont know why. I will be stockpiling it next time it comes out.
Wash day was long but worth it if i only need to repeat every 2 weeks. Lets see how long this lasts!

Pretty! Your coils are shiny!

That's so interesting about the Miche gel! Glad you made that hard-to-know discovery.

We're vibing: I did my hair last night and want to test how long it lasts. I'll update the thread with my experience.
