I have two of these. I am a little past shoulder and my hair is thick as well. When pressed out though my hair becomes very lightweight so for me the medium and large clips work well. You can probably go with the large and have no problems. I like the medium clip when I wear my hair half up on top and half down in the back.

I think so. My hair is med/fine. I think a large would be to big, especially after looking at dlewis and Letita's hair. They use a large.

You may need to go down a size. I've never had that problem.
