Did anyone have a really easy transition?

Mine is going really well. It almost makes me worry. I expected a lot more trouble, but at 7 months post, it's been fine. I have been wearing buns for a week now, and I get a lot of compliments on them. I can straighten pretty easily when I want to. Detangling is hard, but it's always been hard, so no big change there.

I'm just wondering if anyone else had a pretty easy time of it. Is it going to get rough at some point, or can it actually be easy indefinitely?

I am happy it is going so easy for you!:) I found using more product than the norm when you have over an inch of new growth works for me.

Mine was very easy. I actually don't even remember much about it, just the basics of what I did during that time. I don't think I thought about it that much. It just took a long time for me to finish.

I say you're lucky and I would count my blessings and run with it. Girl I would run like Forest!

Anyways, glad everything is smooth sailing.

HA! Transitioning hasnt been a cakewalk for me! I'm shedding like crazy whenever I wash my hair...The breakage stopped since I went back to greasing my scalp and hair the old fashion way...Is it normal to shed a lot while transitioning (and its shedding b/c I inspect to make sure I see the little white bulb)

I think I'm having an easy transition compared to when I first did it back ni '03 and '04.

I think I'm doing it during a great time too. Being pregnant, my hair is not shedding at all, so I don't have to deal with that drama. I've learned a lot more since my last transition too (although, I had not been applying my knowledge learned to my hair in the beginning until now) I'm eating healthier, taking vitamins, excercising, and drinking more water this time out, so that has improved my new growth since last time.

Sorry for the book  Short answer: It's been easy

Hmmm, well mine was easy at first because I didn't really know I was transitioning. I kept delaying getting a touch-up for several months and then I decided I didn't want to get one again. I wasn't really taking care of my hair then, either, though. Wasn't even really thinking about it much. It wasn't until I found hair forums and started taking on healthy hair practices that I became aware of my transition to a high degree.

I think my transition was fairly easy until about 13-14 months when I started having some problems at the line of demarcation. So I chopped and the problems were over. :)

My transition is not going as easy as I would like. The major problem I'm having is with those darn knots and tangles where my natural hair meets the relaxer part. I just started having some breakage not severe and I am shedding alot, even though I don't comb my hair but once a week and I wash once a week. I don't know maybe it will get better. Does anyone comb every or every other day while transitioning?

i never had any horrible problems either until around months 13-15 and still then it wasn't a problem with breakage, tangling or anything out of the ordinary.

i just got sick and tired of the way my hair looked; the fact i couldn't do some of the cooler natural styles like coils and twists due to the relaxed hair not wanting to hold the style properly :perplexed

crazy but true - sent me right over the edge.............of the scissors, that is :lachen:

I do shed a lot, but it doesn't really bother me for some reason. Before LHCF, I combed my hair several times a day, so I think I'm just used to seeing lots of hair come out. I think it's perfectly normal.

Pregnancy is so great for your hair (plus, you know, you have little miracles in there:D). I think the vitamins make a difference too. I've been drinking Ensure for weight purposes, and I think it's helping my hair.

So Cichelle and Lynnie, I see you had problems around 14 months. That seems so far away to me! I wonder if it helps that I have texlaxed hair meeting the natural hair. I still have a few inches of bone straight hair at the ends that's breaking a little, but the texlaxed hair and the demarcation line are fine.

Transitioning has been pretty easy for me. It could be because I am always in braids. It amazes me how much healthier my hair is when I don't have chemicals in it. My wash days are starting to become a little longer now that my hair has grown, but other than that its been pretty smooth sailing. I'm glad you are having an easy time Lauren!!

I am teetering on the edge of transitioning. I am trying to stretch my relaxer until December, and I will decide then if I want to transition or relax. My last relaxer was in May, and between vitamins and BT, I have a ton of new growth, but it has been surprisingly easy for me to deal with. I have very few problems with tangles (and I'm approaching 2 inches of new growth) and I've got the shedding and breakage under control. I thought it was just me, but if it continues to be this easy until December, I'm quite sure I will just transition.

I'm glad it is easy for you. Your hair is absolutely beautiful and definitely an inspiration. Happy Growing!

Mines was pretty easy. I wasn't really transitioning. I had thought about it but I was still on the fence. I was just doing my 6 month stretch and then one day got the bright idea to chop.

I think of myself as in permanent transition. Short of missing my rollersets and dying to see length I rarely have an problems. :ohwell:

hey lauren.........i was tex'd too. let me say like this......if i were just going to wear my hair flatironned only, i'd had no reason to BC but i really want to wear it curly/kinky with only occasional straightening.

the styles i love so much caused me much troubles because the tex'd hair just couldn't hang with the natural. the bottoms of twists, braids and coils would either come loose or not curl up sufficiently - the twist, coil or even a braid would slowly unravel itself and that was because of the chemically treated hair. it didn't matter howmuch gel i used, how wet the hair was, i even tried using clips and rubberbands to set the hair until it dried - i just would eventually unravel and ruin the style.

that's the only reason why i went ahead and cut it off

now, since all that chemically altered hair is gone, my ends curl up, twists stay twisted and braids don't unravel, i'd say 90% of the time.

Starting out with longer hair can make the transition go smoother. There are more styling options, and the newgrowth doesn't overpower the relaxed hair. My transition was rough because I didn't start out with a whole lot of hair.

I've been transitioning for forever and a day and I really haven't had any major problems. After reaching the 6-8 month mark its been smooth sailing, probably b/c my natural texture has just completely taken over. I just had to alter a few habits.
I rarely think/worry about my hair. Detangling can be difficult sometimes if I'm too impatient or my hair isn't moisturized enough but it hardly compares to the frustration and disappointment I used to feel trying to blow dry and curl my hair regularly. The only thing thats rough are my sad attempts at styling, but braids and buns were invented to cover up hair mishaps  (for me anyhow).

As long as you've figured out what works best for your hair it doesn't have to be hard. Good luck on your transition!!!

My transition is starting to get a bit rough, i'm 10 months into my transition with no intention of doing a big chop. Maybe a lot of it has to do with my texture, im 4b. I started my transition with armpit length hair and I'd say the first few months 1-6 were the easiest, i could just put some product to lay it flat and wear a ponytail. I also flat ironed for a while and that really made things easy, but the only problem was that i was constantly fighting my new growth and flatironing too much.. But since I am not using heat until next september, my hair style options are pretty much braids and twists because the texture differences are so extreme, it has really helped elminate a lot of unnecessary rough handling and breakage.
I've been natural 2x's before, once i did the big chop and the other time i transitioned. And when the relaxer is gone from your hair its a real relief because your true natural texture is there and its so much easier to work with

i did. but it was because my hair was already short. barely neck length. i would press my roots in the summer and winter time i wore braids. and i would cut if off eventually. it wasn't hard at all. mainly due to my length.

I transitioned when I first started my healthy hair journey with the intent of being natural only for a year, and it was a real positive experinece. But I think you are transitioning with ease cause you are blessed with beautiful tresses, regardless of natural and relaxed. More blessings to you!

:yay:Lauren, so happy your transition is going smoothly, that's wonderful. It's just so nice to hear that someone is having an easy time with transitioning. Like someone said though you got a lot of hair so your new growth is not taking over...yet, lol. I think it's the hardest when the hair is say half and half. Anyway, hope all continues to go well for you:).

mine was super easy. i stayed in a rollerset. a scarf to tie down my edges was a godsend. right now i can say that i'm REALLY happy that i decided to transition. i celebrated my year last week. no BC and i have about 3 inches or so left now.

Right now I'm stretching and I'm about 20 weeks post. I may transition I haven't decided. But so far it's easy for me. I don't have problems with detangling or anything. My biggest issue is not being able to straighten my hair since I'm not using direct heat.

Even though I wore my hair in braids for the past 4 months, my transitions has been a little rough. My natural hair would lock with the relaxed hair when I take out my braids and wash it. And to put the braids back in, man, it takes longer and longer! Last time I was in the salon for 7 hours!
