How To Clean A Flat Iron

How is everyone cleaning their flat irons? Does the plate type determine how to clean it? I have a ceramic flat iron that needs cleaning but I am afraid of damaging the plates.

I've never had an issue using alcohol to clean mine. I have the Chi ceramic iron and I wipe mine down with alcohol after each use.

I've never had an issue with rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball over the plates.

I've gently used a magic eraser or one of those scotch brite scrubby sponges with no problems

Thanks y'all, I read about the rubbing alcohol and I was afraid it might damage the ceramic somehow. I will use that to clean it! Thanks again

I use a warm towel. I have two titanium irons, and just use warm water. The other 3 are ceramic and I use alcohol.

I've done this as well with my ceramic and it works also. The key is either the warm moist towel or a slightly warm unplugged flat iron and a moist towel.

Same. I just wiped mine with water lol

I wipe my titanium iron down with alcohol pads.

I can't imagine alcohol would ruin titanium because it's a material that is often sterilized for body piercings and hairdressers have to sterilize their tools as well. I don't think it would be a popular material to use for hair if you could only use water to clean it.

When I used to flat iron my hair I would just use some alcohol on a cotton ball. Alcohol cuts through the oils that get on the plates from my hair.
