I like the idea. Very interesting and i know they are central Africa but I've always wondered also how West African women centuries ago would've been able to moisturize their hair. The only thing is I believe these ladies are not naturally a type 4 hair texture. Would this work on type 4 hair?

It's the technique not the products honestly. It really seems to boil down to regular, consistent use of some oil and/or moisturizer and keeping the hair in a protective style that hides the ends. The texture or hair type is far less important.
