How Often Do You Pre Poo?

Just whenever. I really like to use a Pre-Mix (already made for that purpose).

Or if there is a conditioner or something I'm trying to use up.

Or sometimes I'll do an Oil Rinse before cleansing.

I don't have any set rule, but whenever I do it, I like it.

My pre-poo is part of my detangle process, so before every wash. I finger detangle with coconut oil--sometimes after heating the oil and sitting with a cap on for a while, then I detangle with a wide tooth comb using tresemme naturals. I'm usually ready for a break after this point, so I put a plastic cap on my head for a while.

I prepoo the night before every wash. I use a moisturizing conditioner and coconut oil.

Benefits of prepooing for my fine, 4b, medium density hair:

1. Helps to remove shed hair and detangle.
2. Prepooing acts as a co-wash removing the top layer of dirt and oil from hair and scalp.
3. Keeps hair from tangling during the wash process
4. Coconut oil keeps my fine strands strong and prevents them from becoming mushy

Overall it's a multi purpose step in my wash regimen: detangles, hot oil treatment, cleanse, moisturize, protects

I used to pre poo before every wash, but for the last 2 weeks I've skipped it with no negative effects so I may drop it all together. I'm lazy so simplifying is always on my mind.

I used to prepoo with a hot oil treatmfng6 weekly. Now it's only when my hair feels like it needs it e.g. dry ends.

I simply pour some coconut oil in my palms and rub them a bit to heat up and pass it through my strands focusing on my ends. I leave it in for up to half hour. I hate using coconut oil on my hair otherwise lol

I prepoo every week, before every wash. Even if I only do it a few min. (usu. it's at least an hour). It softens my hair and keeps the shampoo (almost always a sulfate one) from stripping too much natural oil (though the shampoo I use is gentle).

I pre-poo before every wash if I can help it for various reasons. I tend to use conditioners in the spring/summer and oils in the fall/winter.

1. I use a clarifying/chelating shampoo or a sulfate shampoo every wash so I like to give my hair a buffer against any harshness (although only one of my four shampoos gives me a squeaky clean feeling if I leave it on too long)

2. Pre-pooing is when I detangle before washing so it's necessary for that. Makes wash day a breeze because all my tangles pretty much gone before water even touches my hair

Before every wash to prep to detangle with Knot Today, an oil, and a Conditioner. I prefer to do it overnight, but if in a hurry, I add the products, add a little water to each section and let them marinate for an hour under a conditioning cap.

I prepoo every single time I wash my hair. I notice a drastic improvement in the health of my ends and a faster, less stressful washday. I slather my hair with EVCO the night before, then use any conditioner to detangle in four sections right before I hop in the shower. I alternate between moisturizimg and protein conditioners depending on what DC I would be using that day to keep a good protein/moisture balance

Less tangles, ssks, stronger hair and less aggravation :)

Thanks everyone, I'm pre pooing now with coconut oil (I might have used to much) but I'm trying to combat my dryness with a pre poo!

Never. I don't necessarily think it's a waste of time. Just a waste of mine's. I don't have time to be oiling my hair and wait 30 min, then getting in the shower and wash it out and then shampoo then condition. Chile cheese.

Actually... that does sound like a waste of time  I don't even feel like I'm getting the benefit of anything by only leaving the oil on my hair/scalp for 30 minutes... I usually leave my oil in for hours under my hat and go about my normal life or go to bed in it until I'm ready to shampoo/condition.

Usually, I alternate between cowashing one week and shampooing the next week. But either way, I prepoo each week. For the cowash week, I prepoo with conditioner under a heat cap for 30 minutes before cowashing. For shampoo week, I prepoo with an oil overnight, add on a DC the next day and sit under a heat cap for an hour before shampooing.

I use a pre-poo during every wash-DC session. I once viewed pre-pooing as a waste of time until I did one on dry hair and the results blew my mind - barely any breakage, significantly less tangles and increased moisture retention. I was sold and I've been experimenting with them ever since. For me, the most effective pre-poos are oil and butter-laden conditioners coupled with heat (cheapie conditioners and plain oil are recipes for disaster).

What conditioners do you use?

Every time I actually wash my hair..which varies from weekly to monthly :look:
Generally speaking oils work better for me, specifically some kind of EVCO mix. I'll do it for an hour with a cap and wool hat, under the dryer with a cap only, or overnight. Conditioner works too but I get more consistent results with oil. I'll use conditioner more when I'm trying to get rid of something.

I pre-poo before every wash. Primarily to remove shed hair & tangles but it really helps to jump start adding moisture|protein and sets the tone for the entire wash day. I love Shea Moisture rinse out conditioners for this step. They are thin enough to glide through the hair but pack a powerful punch of Moisture. Sit under the steamer and I'm good to go!

What conditioners do you use?

My most effective, ride or die pre-poo conditioner is HV Sitrinillah with hempseed, castor, jojoba and peppermint added. I've also garnered great results from:

- HNH Pink Sugar (with a few tbsps of HV Sitrinillah added)
- HQS Peppermint (with jojoba, castor and almond added)
- BRB Rhassoul/Chai Tea (with jojoba, babassu and JBCO)
- SSI Banana Brulee (with oil)/Fortifying (with oil)/Okra (without oil)
- ORS Replenishing (no additives)
- Silicon Mix Bambu (no additives)
- Aphogee 2-Minute mixed with either Silicon Mix regular or pearl (no additives)
