How Bad Are These Twists I'm Self Installing? Work In Progress...

I had a little free time and decided to put in twists with the Janet Noir Kinky/Afro Bulk Hair (can't remember the exact name). I have not dipped them in hot water yet as I still have a little bit of hair left in the front but I can already tell this is not my best work. How bad do they look? How fake does it look? What can be done to improve them? Should I even bother dipping them in hot water? I feel like it's going to make the hair look very silky at the ends? I kind of want to just snip off a big chunk at the end and keep them up for a couple of weeks before taking them out.

I'm sorry, I don't like them. :( I'm sure with practice you'll get better.

And the funny thing is I put in kinky twists before and got postivie feedback but I just don't know what happened this time around. I believe I used a different hair though.

If you have to wear them can you put them in a bun?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, just bun it for a bit before taking them out. They didn't take me terribly long but I'd hate to throw that time away completely. I don't think they're god awful but they're definitely not great.

No slight but it has the I did this self, and got tired, I

Girl, that's exactly what happened.

Thank you all for the feedback. I'm really contemplating on whether or not I should hot water curl this. Not sure how this hair is going to curl. I also redid some of the sections up front using the invisible method and am going to trim as well.

Why does the top of your head looks like you are bald ?

Because my hair is thinner up top, especially on the left side. When my hair is loose (with the exception of my edges) it doesn't look that way. I think the texture of my hair tends to hide any thinness that is visible when the hair is compressed or straightened. It's something I'm working on. I'm really trying to baby my hair.

ETA: These are some hot mess pictures of my hair loose after taking out braids from the end of june.

Looks so much better like this. We all have to start somewhere so be proud of yourself. One thing I will say is with this hair I recommend that you do longer twists next time because this hair likes to defy gravity

Thanks. Are you talking specifically about the Janet Noir hair?

Yes I've used it before. I don't use it anymore coz I don't entertain the BSS that I used to buy it from but its good hair. You just have to make the twists longer so that they move and flow about.

Am I the only one here that doesn't think the twists are that bad? Just rock em girl! Now you can keep practicing but I think they look ok. I think with more practice you will get the look you want

Thank you. I am wearing them anyway. I'll probably keep them in for three weeks. I need to leave my hair alone as much as possible. Just spritz and go.

Not bad for a self install. I recently tried to twist my own hair and it was a FAIL. My fingers just wouldn't cooperate! So I totally commend you on that. I need to study and practice the invisible method a lot more before I attempt to twist again. Someday i'll have the time but for now i'm living that wash n go afro life!

I agree w/this, I tried also and it looked terrible! OP's hair doesnt look bad at all in my opinion.. these twists are not as easy to do as they seem.

Actually, the back looks really good. I think the problem in the front is that your parts need to be smaller so you won't see so much of your scalp.

How did you part the front? Next time around, part it like you would part slanted flat twist that you intend to wear. Get it?
They don't look terrible and since the front needs a little tweaking you don't have to take them all down to improve them.

Hey baby girl. They don't look ratchet and you'll only get better. If you are doing the invisible routine then you have won the battle. I can't do it so I use rubber band method. Here's one thing you might consider. If you are looking for growth, you need bigger braids. Medium to Havana style. Good look sister. I'm on the same journey too right now and you can't tell me ****.
