that blue magic grease still does wonders for my hair..:drunk:

EEYYYYYY!! I'm ALWAYS talking about my love of the grease! Keeps my hair moisturized for days on end, I've retained major length from it, and it has eliminated the dandruff I've had for years. :D

I seriously believe there's a conspiracy against grease going around to get us to pay hundreds of dollars toward natural hair care companies. They always talk about how bad petroleum and mineral oil is for hair but yet there are no peer reviewed studies proving it and we've been using grease for more then 150 years now in the black community. A majority of lotions and other skin care products that we buy contain petroleum and mineral oil. I don't understand how one is good for the goose and not for the gander.

One of my coworkers swears by grease for her braidouts. I was telling her how I don't like wearing my hair out because it becomes a big frizzy mess within hours. She said she cowashes and does her braids on wet hair coated with grease. Her hair does look nice. But I don't know if that would work for me. She uses the Softee hemp grease.

haha i know! i agree. i was always afraid to use it since i read articles online saying it stops hair growth and that mineral oil is bad. but i started using it again because it really helps my hair.

Just take a dime size and dilute it with water. I always do that and my hair is never weighed down from it.

I used it last month because winter had my hair looking dry as ever. It really helped give me some sheen. I might apply some to the back of my hair/nape area because it tends to be dry. Thanks for the reminder!

I bought some yesterday. I felt like I was being sneaky buying grease lol.
I plan on using it twice a week when I restyle.

I feel ya there. I used to hate using grease mostly because it stank when it was time to wash my hair but since I stopped using it my hair has been going down hill. Now that I know that my hair also needs moisture I can moisturize and then seal with grease and viola my hair stays moist.

Same here. I also think that there is and anti-sulfate shampoo conspiracy as well. I've gone back to using sulfate shampoos and my hair seems to be doing better than with the non sulfates so go figure with the logic behind that one.

The sulfate shampoos give me shine and fluff. My hair is afro textured, but it's fine and needs a good cleansing to show off is natural texture and shine.

Caveat: I only use it once a week, with a very small dab, lather only one time, and only scrub the scalp.

See sulfates jacked up my curl pattern. When I was a relaxed head, I switched from sulfates to sulfate free for health reasons, and my new growth changed from hard and frizzy to soft and easy to manage coils. Not all sulfate shampoo is created equal though, in fact I think most of the drug store ones are very stripping and not worth it. I only use Shea moisture shampoos, and a clarifying one by Giovanni.

I agree but not all sulfate free shampoos are created equal either. I have stripped my hair using some sulfate free brands. I have to admit I was afraid to use SLS shampoos again because I thought all sulfatess stripped hair. Then I remembered that I had used sulfate products my whole life without a problem. In fact my hair was at its longest when I used them. So I bit the bullet and tried a brand I had been wanting to use for a while. I was pretty surprised with my results. My hair felt great so I replaced my sulfate free shampoo for the sulfate one. Today was my second wash with the new brand and I'm pretty satisfied.

Where my hair journey and setbacks are concerned, I think my problem was expecting sulfate free to be drastically different from sulfate shampoos but they weren't for me. I still had dry hair after shampooing no matter what type of shampoo I used. Now that I have found a shampoo that works better than my comparably more expensive sulfate free shampoo I regret painting all sulfate shampoos with the same brush. I guess in the end what it boils down to is using what works for you and not believing in all of the hair care dogma going around.

I've gone back to using grease too which has helped with breakage. The key is to just use a little and remember to clarify.

Lol in my original post, I meant to say not all sulfate free shampoos are created equal:drunk:. A lot of them could strip my hair just as bad as sulfates. But once I found a few good ones. My curls came out for the first time! It was a game changer. But then I know a lot of people who could use sulfates without an issue.

Right, I think the trick is to be gentle, and light handed.
