I don't like hair that defined. The first thing I thought of was crop circles.

If a man said he didnt like a specific curl pattern in a woman's head he would be labeled self hating. What is the guy in the photo supposed to do? Keep his head bald?

Riiiight. So he styled his hair like this. His hair didn't grow out of his scalp like that, just as the woman's locs didn't grow out of her hair in that style. It was a decision. Like he purposefully made his hair to look like that and I never liked it too much when guys put too much of a defined wave so I just put it out there to ask if others liked hair that waved. You can do waves on straight or looser texture hair. This has nothing to do with curl pattern. Lord. I'm talking about a style. I just happened to be looking a site about locs and this was posted there.

All a black man has to do is brush his hair and it waves up like that because its simply causing his curls (even though cut short) to clump together. Similar to how my hair would wave if I brushed it back for a bun. Should he forgo brushing? Those pics you posted will obviously have to do more than the man in your OP because they dont have the hair type.

I don't really care about a man's hair lol when I brush my hair it waves so that would be like telling him not to brush his hair or vice versa.

If a man's hair doesn't do that naturally, then I don't think he needs to bother with it. I think his natural pattern is perfectly fine and handsome but I actually don't like that it circles all the way around, so if it was my DH hair, I would recommend fading the sides back more or growing the top out more to change up the texture and disrupt the perfect circle look. HaHa but I never thought it about it like that!

Yeah. That's it. I don't like that perfect circle look. I really don't think most black people's hair would do that naturally with just a "simple" brushing. There's some technique to it and I think some guys just go a little overboard with it.

Chile my DH is from Detroit and his hair is trained in 360's from high school. :lachen::lachen:he carries a brush everywhere. Funny story at his job in a meeting a white guys asked if all the black guys had brushes on them 6 of these fools pulled out brushes :drunk:. Look you wanna fight a man from Detroit take away his brushes and du-rag. It's a cultural/regional thing I think. Nothings wrong with it.

I vaguely remember ages ago that someone here posted a link to the male equivelant of lhcf where a lot of men were sharing tips about getting the best waves. Some were brushing their hair every half hour. I ended up lurking there for an hour lol, they are just as hair obsessed as we are. This one guy found his holy grail brush that he planned on passing down to his son:look:.

But to answers OP's question, I don't mind waves at all. I think they're cute. They're also not the first thing I notice.

This is no different from a black woman brushing her hair in a bun and putting a scarf on it at night. They are just brushing it in a different direction lol there is no extra special technique or sorcery

Those are some really defined waves!

I'm ok with it as long as he's not hair obsessed. My two boys have waves when they keep their hair cut low and brushed. One decided he'd had enough of the short hair look and is growing or his fro now.

I lurk there too, sometimes. That forum is fascinating.

I remember it too. That's why I mentioned wave journey. Those dudes had all types of tips, tricks and product recommendations. That thread led me to Youtube and I was too outdone.

I just don't care. Unless a guy spends more time on his hair than me, then really idaf as long as he looks presentable. I have a thing against men primping. It's primal. I just think of them as having feminine qualities. The only time I get annoyed is when a man does what I mentioned above or is obsessed with his looks. I'm like man up

Once there was an incredibly off the charts hot guy but he kept checking his stomach after he ate and asking me if he looked fat. It was such a turn off because even though it wasn't true (he lifted his shirt slightly to show his washboard abs) it revealed insecurity. My friend later said he was advertising his goods, and if that's the case then he turned me off for other reasons. But with that said, I don't like overly fussy men. I want men who look good and keep it together but effortlessly. Sure workout but don't ask me to look at you from all angles or I'm out. With that said I don't knit pick over men unless something looks crazy off. I'm not going to tell you how to fade your hair...but if you don't comb or brush it or it looks shellac (ed?) within an inch of it's life, or you look feminine, etc that's another thing.

Yeah, I agree. It's ALMOST akin than me using certain methods to define my curl pattern, such as co-washing and shaking my hair after washing. To me, it's a tad bit more than shingling method. So, it's like their hair has a certain curl pattern and it's like they are saying to the curl pattern, "Sit down and face this way." Shingling on the other hand takes thirty minutes or less...but the 360s take more time.
The guys in my high school used to do this. I do know there are black men whose hair grows naturally straight also. I wouldn't care as long as the man looks good and is a good quality person.

LMAO@ crop circles :lachen:

Yea, i don't like when the waves are that defined Either.

Its like When women overly exaggerate there "baby" hairs. We get it you have baby hairs!

LOL A WAVE JOURNEY!!!! omg This thread reminded me of this lil white boy I saw on WSHH doing wave tutorials.

Anyway, to answer your question...I don't like it if the guy puts a lot of effort into it. I just don't understand it.

WOW. Those bruhs are serious. I searched 360 waves and I am nauseated- straight up sea sick from all the waves on some of these heads.

I'm amazed the dedication it would take and the science behind it- protein, amino acids, special brushes. Of course my 11 year old son happened to see the picture and was like -you need to do that to my hair mom! Lol. I'm actually planning on letting him grow his little sandy hair out and doing clay treatments/gel (i.e. modified Max Hydration Method) so he can see some coils and length, at least on the top.
