I just don't see ladies walking around with natural hair this long. It's beautiful.

You just let it grow, lol!!
Her hair is not that much longer than miine, and mine WOULD be that long if I would step away from the scissors, grrrrr...
My hair flat ironed is a wee bit longer than her hair here, so her hair flat ironed is probably waist length, which is where I should be at, but thanks to my scissors, am not.:perplexed

You haven't seen Sydney Poitier latey have you? (Sorry I am such a stan right now).

Anyhoo I don't like that hairstyle...I see that pic on her jeans/boots is supposed to be her.

Wow! You think:confused: ? My natural hair is not even close to this long when it's unstretched. Maybe I have a whole lot of shrinkage, but for my curly hair to be this length unstretched, it would have to be way longer than waist length when it's straight.

But how do you stop your coils from breaking. My hair breaks constantly. :(
I ususally don't let them loose, lol!
I kept them bound up somehow if my hair is curly, rarely do I let my hair loose if it's in it's natural state because the tangles are infuriating! From the tangles comes the breakage and I have had enough damage over the years to put up with it now! (It still hapens, though.)
Leave ins work best, but the natural ones like pure unrefined coconut oil and natural 7 oil- preferably mixed together, for me.
Near zero manipulation (uhhhhhh except for that scissor issue, but that's when my hair is ironed.)
I know this woman in the pics doesn't walk around with her hair out like that. It would be snagged up before she got to her car. It's clear she protects her hair with the fierceness!

But Sidney Poitier has mixed hair which doesn't break as easily as coily hair. This ladies hair is straight African, like mine. I have I guess 4A with a touch of 3C at the back.

Yeah it definitely looks like her on the boots.

Her hair looks blow dried in these pics- it looks exactly like mine does blown dried without being ironed out.
I'll bet if it's in it's natural curl, it would be a lot shorter.

My hair is mixed. Trust me, it breaks.

She has beautiful hair. I've never seen natural hair this long, and if I have, it was braided up.

Oh...thanks. I have never tried blow drying my hair since I went natural. I always roller set it. I usually speak out against blow dryers to everyone who will listen, but that makes me want to try it just to see what it will look like. Hmmhh????

Yeah I guess she does use protective styling, I just wish I could get my hair pass the shoulders and keep moisture.

I thought hair like Sidney's doesn't break like African hair because moisture flows down the hair shaft easier, hence the shine and length.

Well, blow dryers aren't too bad if you don't use them all the time.
I've been natural for 12 years and use my blow dryer when I feel the need. Soooo, I guess I might use one once a month, unless I have a few events to go to that I want to flat iron for, but I only blow dry if I intend to flat iron.
Otherwise, it's just curly shirley up in here!

Allllllllllllllllll that hair! Wow. I love to look at it but it looks like it would be pure MURDER to shampoo and detangle! I'm not natural but I definitely think one day I could do it. But dang!!! Alllllll that hair!! Whoo!

OT: WOW!!! I went to see "Grindhouse" yesterday (the Tarantino film), and she's in it. Her hair is the most gorgeous head of naptural hair that I've ever seen. There's even a scene in the movie where Kurt Russell comments on how beautiful it is. And trust me, when you see the film, you'll come away with the notion that Sydney herself knows how beautiful her hair is, too! I was a stan when I left the theater last night.

It just depends what characteristics from which parent her hair has picked up; my own hair is a mix of 2b-4b.
The nape is seriously silky and there isn't a kink to be found, but the crown hair is the z strands that are rougher and more difficult to control and the rest is just kinda like lazy curls that lost their umph, you know how when you have a nice courl and then you walk by a steam table in a buffet? Well, that's what the rest of my head looks like.
With all those different types, I still make sure to condition ALL the types because they can be subject to dryness as it is a property from both of my parents that I inherited. My hair, even the 2b part does not retain moisture well on it's own and I need to suppliment it, especially as it get longer the hair winds around itself and halt the scalp's oils even more so.
Multiracial hair has it's own set of problems, mainly learning how to satisfy all the hair types from the different races sittin' up on those heads.:ohwell:

Her hair looks brushed to me and possibly blowdried. It reminds me of my own hair if I airdry with it loose and then put a paddle brush to it, though I'm not sure my hair would be that long. However, when I just wash it and let it dry with no brushing, like a wash and go, it shrinks up and looks shorter.

She probably takes meticulous care of her hair and keeps it protected most of the time. But who knows, she might be one of those people who (seemingly) can do anything with their hair and it just grows and stays strong. I wish I was one of those people!

Check out Micarae's album (you'll have to pm her for her pswd). She has some beautiful natural hair that was waistlength. She's probably a 3C/4A. I know she recommends low manipulation and easy styles. She has some good advice.

Nay and Maestrodiva both have beautiful long nappy hair too. Both of them minimize manipulation as well.

Thanks for schooling me. I really thought it was so much easier and less worry looking after your type hair. My niece is mixed and has mixed type hair but the ends get dry which her mum struggles with.

Thanks I'll try and check out their photo albums. I've never seen natural posters with waist length hair on here just permed.

You probably have, you just didn't recognize that they were natural. Most of the Waistlength hair I see on here IS natural. Their pictures show it flat ironed or pressed, but they don't have a relaxer. When I read their signature, it often times says they're natural. That's the reason I joined LHCF!
(I'm almost to my natural waist, but my waist is kinda high so it will probably look more like waist length when it's at my hip bones.)
My hair has grown soooo much better since I stopped relaxing it!
