NATURAL HAIR SHOW NYC 2014 - Anyone going?

Thanks so much for that review. I woke up not feeling well today so I didn't go. Too long of a ride to be sick on Megabus. I was going to try to take the ride up tomorrow but now I don't think I'll push myself to go. Seems like this Expo hit it's peak a few years ago.

I am not surprised by these reviews. I didn't end up going because I felt it wouldn't be worth it, but I kinda wish I was able to see the Shea Moisture section since a lot of their body and kids products are not available in my town.

My I laws decided to come earlier than expected so I ended up not going. Didn't miss s thing.

I wanted to go but it didn't fit into my plan as I won't be in New York until August. I have always wanted to go to the ATL one but haven't been able to. It looks like I didn't miss anything really. I probably would have picked up some Camille Rose and some shea moisture but any discount on the products would have been eaten up by the ticket and travel costs for me so wouldn't have been worthwhile.

Thanks for the reviews. I wish that a full list of confirmed vendor would have been available before the event. It's like they go out of their way not to let people know and that's a shame because it's the main way that I would work out if it's worthwhile for me to go.

How come Oyin handmade, Darcy's, Hairveda, PBN, Shescentit and others weren't there?

I was hesitant about going because of the colossal time waste known as Circle of Sisters. Thanks to atlien11 review, I know it was on that same level. Glad I didn't bother.

Wow, these reviews don't surprise me. They pretty much put all their time and effort into this one. I think that's why ATL didn't get enough shine because they didn't focus on advertisement for it.

Do you ladies think that we're just burnt out on hair shows in general or is the natural hair ones going thru a shift?

I personally liked going in the past because it was a chance for me to see and support small, new companies. Supporting the local black businesses was awesome because I always found hidden gems with products.

Now it seems so commercialized, big name vendors that I see on my Target shelves all the time with small discounts.

I'm curious to see how future shows will be effected after this whole divide about curls and kinks.

I've never been to a hair show. I like Shea Moisture products (especially the new makeup line) and would've loved to view their set-up though. Thanks for the review atlien11 and *Frisky*. I'm definitely not into the wooden earring thing!

I thought since it was in New York there would be better vendors.

I will just frequent it when it comes to Atlanta since I live here. Glad I didn't waste money traveling to it, I can just go right up the road to the Convention Center when it comes here like I'm going to do in the fall.

I was commuting in from Philly to the show since I was here this week (currently enroute back to the A), so getting there wasn't too bad. I was at least hoping for Camille Rose products since I can't her full line in stores and maybe some Bee Mine or Darcy's as another poster said. I was really surprised OYIN wasn't there.

For the ladies in atl there is a store in tucker that sells a lot of these products. They are sometimes out of stock but they have a good set of samples that you can then order online.

I'm still smh at the dude who said the consumers they target don't give a rip about the ingredients in their products :nono:

I kind of knew Darcy's wouldn't be there. Her store is in the metro area and she doesn't even come to the ones here.

I'm surprised Oyin didn't go to New York. But then again, even at the one here, I hear vendor space has gotten really expensive so a lot of smaller companies don't participate. I can imagine in New York it may have been even more expensive.

Was KBB there?

NaturallyATLPCH KBB was not there

Is Darcy's in Metro atlanta? Does she have a store front?

Is Circle of Sisters a place with hair and other vendors as well, like this Hair show and Sheckys? TIA!

TwoSnapsUp
Circle of Sisters is not limited to hair products. They have a little of everything there from hair care, skin and body. BUT, it was in the smallest possible room at Jacob Javits with 50-11 thousand things going and incense burning...I went once, bought nothing and wanted my $10 back. I've never been to Sheckys.

It wasn't for me.

She was there as a spectator from what I saw and wasn't vending. Maybe she was there helping in some other way. I don't think she vended in ATL either but attended the show. I think these vendors are losing money and it's not worth it anymore for them to participate. I am sure the travel alone just getting to these events are a pretty penny and then having to pay the expensive booth rental is the main reason for the decline.

Also now that alot of these products are being offered in various stores including Target, there may not be a need for them to go to hair shows.
