the child said i have been natural all my life but i had my hair up in a bun or a braid ....this cant be serious
 
The girl had the nerve nerve to tweet out that its CURLYnikki and not BLACKnikki and then deleted the tweet. Thats when Twitter really went off.

LOL It doesnt bother me, Some of the best curly advice that I received was from white curly women.

We like the same products and sometimes have the same routine.

HOWever, I see how people are upset about the fact that it doesnt relate to them because the lady isnt of "color"

Some people fail to realize curls are not accepted in a lot of cultures regards of kinky, texture, afro or not.

her product usage has nothing to do with this stupid article: dont try to down play a real hair journey or mock one by saying you transitioned out of a pony tail /bun...like seriously foreal

The white girl. I have no problem with white women doing whatever they want to their hair but to come into a space that is about black women and their own unique struggle with hair and talk about transitioning out of a bun is foolery.

Then she has the nerve to be confused about why people are upset. Gtfoohwtbs

I bounced from NaturallyCurly years ago when I realized the most forums and money are generated from the Type4 section,yet the general section ran things basically.

I knew Nikki sold her site and I wasnt giving CN forum too much play either BUT I don't have any problem with the article being about a white girl showcasing her "natural" journey. I think they should have altered the questions and set it up a different way.

I dont have any problem with non women of color " claiming natural" my cousin is Puerto Rican and does (said) the same thing when I started going natural.

Shes a 3, I'm a 4. Im also half Dominican and the hate is real strong among my family for curly/kinky hair. None of my family on that side loves their curls. They all are relaxed, bkt, and flatiron , blow out queens. So, I see the struggle with some of my younger cousins to wear their hair curly.

I havent been a fan of Texture Media or whatever the name is since Dee left the site to start NP
 
Wasn't CurlyNikki created specifically to educate black women on their natural hair and support those who were transitioning? When did the blog start to include "others"? It's been a few years since I frequented CurlyNikki's blog so I may be out of the loop.
 
I can understand why everyone is up in arms, but I'm with shawnyblazes. Doesn't bother me at all. Her struggle isn't my struggle, but it's still real enough to her. People have told me my whole life that I have that good hair too. Does it make my hair journey any less to me? Nope.
 
The CN questions are always the same. This girl isn't the first one that was natural all her life, many other black girls have replied the same way to that question. And many black girls likewise just quit bunning, weaving or braiding to learn their texture. This girl is no different.

waterlily716 is like the MahoganyCurls for white girls :lol: I say let them have a moment...we give white people way too much of our energy and feelings, IMO.

I understand some of the backlash (especially her twitter comment). However, I do not understand the anger over her saying she has been natural her entire life and she basically just stopped hiding her hair. Countless times I have seen, online and in real life, women of color as well as white women who have been natural their whole life but hide their hair in buns and braids and/or comb their curls out. Does this make their transition to wearing their hair natural any less real? This seems a lot to me like people saying that women of color with looser textures shouldn't call themselves natural or that their journeys are irrelevant because they have "good hair." As some of the other posters said, many white women with tighter curls have to go against conventional standards of beauty to wear their curls out just like us.

MileHighDiva , on any given day before they blended 4a and 4b, the 4 section had 200-300 views, while the other hair forums would have under 50. Lots of curl types came to 4 and that was cool , however when general or general product review asked for things it was done.

And quiet as kept Nikki didnt patent the gold mine on "henna". She came to NC and started gathering information and trying out different methods and what not but thats before a lot of folks time. Ive been a long time lurker

Once she did that and got a following ,started her blog( and i'm not putting down here hustle because I like her ) TM took notice. I knew it was a matter of time before CN/TM bought her. I was on the Curlynikki website way before TM bought her out.

Its been interesting. Thats why I dont understand why folks are up in arms, Nikki came from NaturallyCurly lol
 
I'm surprised that people are so angry over this :ohwell:. I can only speak for myself, but the book Curly Girl is what finally helped me decide to go natural and the author is white/Jewish. Her stories about women of all races and cultures struggling with curly hair is what pushed me to embrace mine. Something about finding out that curly hair acceptance is not only a "black" problem was eye-opening...

PLUS, it's Nikki's blog. She can publish whatever she wants to. Why people feel that they have ownership over her blog is beyond me...I understand that they have supported her over the years, but those that do not want to read multicultural stories can choose whether or not they visit the site. Insulting another woman over hair and discounting her experience is too much.

There are some sites like BGLH that are specifically devoted to black hair and even over there, people get mad when mixed race women of African descent, Latino-Black women, and women with looser textures are posted. It's like...come on now. Can we be a little bit open-minded??? People need to crack open a book and realize that curly hair oppression is not limited to black women.

ETA: Nor is it limited to 4a/4b/4c-type hair...
