I've been transitioning since 3/2011 - I finally got my hair to the last lil wisps of straight ends... I don't even think it was perm, I think it was heat damage from the dominicans... either way... I tried to to a wash n go and it just didn't work, I still had straight ends. So on May 15th, I went to the salon, told the lady my issue - that I just needed to have the last lil bits of edges cut off... she understood. I told her I don't really trust people to trim because of past scissor happy stylists... she understood. Girls... I went from basically BSL to BARELY grazing SL... WHAT IN THEE ENTIRE FAAAAAWK!!!!!???

and now...

sigh.... I mean, I know all that wasn't needed. I guess it's just hair. I just had to come in and show you all, because I know what my progress had been and now it just seems SOOOOO FAR to get to where I want to go. She flat ironed it, which I hadn't used heat on my head in forever, so it was okay. BUT! now I have long strands that come out easily in my hands after I run my hands through my hair. How much shedding is normal? If I say I'm easily pulling out anywhere between 30-50 strands a day, is that normal or is this something to be concerned about???

Aw! :bighug: Your hair will grow back. Your ends looked healthy, I don't know why she gave you a cut and not a trim!

Now, please leave those Domincn Salons alone. They use too much heat. Please do your own trims. That being said, your hair looks beautiful. I would be mad too though. So vent, cry, fall out and then pick yourself up and take charge of your hair from now on.

You need to clarify, use a medium protein treatment or reconstructor and a conditioner made for deep conditioning for moisture. Up your water intake and stay on your moisturize and seal game and your hair will be APL this fall and bsl soon after.

Buy some pretty hair thingamabobs and enjoy your healthy, shiny hair.

Embrace your cut and stop length checking.

Do a length check Labor Day weekend and see how far your hair has grown then! You will be surprised.

So sorry this happened to you!

Reason #5,000,000,000,000 why I DO NOT TRUST SALONS or anyone else to do my hair.

One bad experienced did it for me. In fact, it was a similar experience.

Yes ma'am... I haven't been to the dominicans in like 2.5 years. I think that's where the straight hair came from. I only went 3 times, just to see how to do it myself. I usually do everything myself, but I've always been afraid to trim my own hair... WHAT IF ITS UNEVEN AFTERWARDS???

Also, you're right about not length checking... it's driving me crazy! I had been in wigs for 8 months straight! I could see the progress! Now I'm back to square one. UGH! I've always heard that hiding your hair gives you the best progess and that wearing your hair out causes damage. I think maybe I'll wear it out for the summer and go back to bunning or wigging it afterwards.

I WILL be deep conditioning, which is something I never do at home myself. And also the M&S game will be on L.O.C.!!! (pun intended :lachen: )

ThatJerseyGirl,

Where ya been homie? Lol... Yes, I usually don't go to salons, but I just wanted to get that LAST BIT of straight hair out of my head so I can finally try a wash and go and be completely natural! This is one of the main reasons I went natural, so I could see my own hair... but never no more. I don't have a reason to go to anybody else... except how am I gonna do my own trims??? I really am scared to do it...

I remember that story I believe. Was it in Camp Springs, Maryland? I remember because we were stationed at Andrews AFB. That taught me not to trust salons. Didn't you snatch that stylist up?

I can't see any mentions on my IPhone. PM me if it is a must see. Allons y

Next time wet your hair and cut off the straight ends. And don't worry about uneven curly hair. Nobody can tell if it is uneven.

Make sure to use some sort of protein to repair your hair from all that heat! Then make sure to use a moisturizing dc after.

I can't see any mentions on my IPhone. PM me if it is a must see. Allons y

I am hoping there is no next time that I will be cutting off straight ends. I haven't wet my hair since she did it, but this weekend I plan on washing, dcing trying another wash n go. If I don't like it, then I'll bantu knot out or something... iono. BUT! I do want to ask, what is the best protein out there for hair? I keep hearing about the aphogee 2 step thing, but I remember reading about a girl on here that tried it and all her hair started falling out... YIKES!!! :nono:

It is just sad and pitiful that a person can't go to a professional and get what we ask for and are paying for. You told the lady what you wanted and then she did what she wanted to do! I'm assuming that she didn't confer with you, she just did what she felt was best.
Yes, it's best to do it yourself. Uneven is better than gone. On the bright side, the straight pieces are gone, you've quit the Dominican salon. Your hair will grow back and it'll be like this never happened. The Aphogee protein treatment wasn't scary for me. I just read the directions with extreme care, followed the steps and I still have my hair on my head. Do some research on various brands and then give it a go!

I use Millcreek botanicals keratin with Giovanni on top or CUrl Junkie's repair me.

I can't see any mentions on my IPhone. PM me if it is a must see. Allons y

I'm sorry she didn't listen. I haven't been tutu the doms since late 90's.
I don't see bsl. That pic shows you barely grazing apl and she cut you to sl.

Last year my stylist told me that my hair was damaged and dry from henna and that I needed a major trim. I was concerned and thought my hair was very damaged so I agreed to get two inches cut. My next visit he told me that he just needed to trim the last bit of damage. He cut two more inches. And for reasons unknown to me I let him. I lost almost a year's growth in a 4 week period. I have not been back since. I trim my own hair and I steam my hair weekly to stay on top of the moisture. I am technically at APL/BSLish but it has been a journey. Trust and believe my next stylistic will trim no more than a 1/2 inch.

Aww, I'm so sorry this happened to you. And to think I've been calling around today inquiring about different salons and thinking about going back just for my relaxers......then I log on and see this thread. Now I'm scared.

What does it look like straight. It's hard to compare when the after pic is curly.

I agree. The after picture has to look wet and straight for us to get a real good lock because I'm thinking it's longer than it looks but the curls are just so tight.

In the pic in the white shirt, you can see my bra imprint thru the shirt... it was past the top of my bra strap... that is also an older picture. For the last 8 months I had my hair braided and under wigs. It had grown well beyond what you see in the pictures... That's why I said it like, I have to start allllll over again! With the pictures I used, I was wayyyyy beyond that! But now, I'm all the way back up to my shoulders...:wallbash::cry2:

If it's any consolation, you hair look gorgeous!
Thank you prettybyrd - I'm tryna just rock wit it... I wish I had taken better or more pictures of my hair after I took the wigs off after the last 8 months.

I will try to get my son to take a picture of my hair pulled straight down... before he goes to bed...

Give me a moment, let me show you... I am so sad that I didn't have any pics of my hair after all that hiding my hair and no heat challenge. It was so luscious... I just needed those last stupid ends cut out... smh... I should have just held on to them...

I am so sorry the beautician ignored your request to trim. It is crazy, how they do whatever they want to us.

You are exactly right. The salon was across from the Tradewinds Night Club, or what use to be. Right there where the car wash/gas station is located. It's a strip mall.

I beat the truth out dat b----ch! Damn that. When the other stylist kept looking at me all horrified while doing her customer's hair, I said let me see what she doing. I look on the floor and CHUNKS, no, GLOBS of my hair was on the floor. I just came from the gym from working out and my hair was very long and thick.

Not damaged at all and dis trick tried to tell me my hair was damaged! I whipped her azzz and didnt care nor do I regret it. I specifically said clip my ends. That was it. When I touched my hair while looking in the mirror and didnt feel my length, I blacked out. All bets were off. Cleaned shop that day. I don't even recall saying anything. I just went off! I think her husband was in there too....

My boy owns the art shop in that same strip mall. Somebody ran and told him, like that was gonna help. I draaaaged her azzz that day.

I bet she know the meaning of "clip my ends" today.

I would have blacked out too. I am so glad you dragged her. She learned that day. Do what people ask. I think she was jealous. You taught school and everyone in that shop learned.

Do you know my children know that story? My DD decided right then and there she only trusts me, her grandmother or her auntie to trim her hair. My DD was so mad. DD said that bad woman was jealous of your long hair. I just asked her if she remembered that story. She said of course she remembers and she wants to know how your hair is now.

You A Mess!:giggle:

Missed You Lady! Glad to See You.

I miss you guys too!!!! I've been on here. I have a baby now and his name is Bougie, my cat. It's like having a child in the house!

When I tell you she butchered me, she BUTCHERED my hair. I came out of a weave, after two and a half years, so my hair was down my back. I didn't know anything about bsl or mbl. It was sort of natural because it was texturized. Didn't know the term texturized either. When she got done, it was damn near scalp length.

I beat the dog sh-- out of her. It wasn't even cut into a style. They called PG County's finest. I ain't care. That is why that stylist, who was sitting across from me kept looking at me funny, as if she was trying to talk to me through her eyes.

But anyway, I had to go back to tracks after that and my stylist, Ishia was PISSED. Now, my hair is still thick, long and I baby my bear myself. You could not pay me to go into a salon because stylists don't listen. The one who did my weaves is good a took care of my hair, but now, I do it myself.

I haven't been to a stylist in four years and will never ever go to one. YouTube and lhcf taught me how to do absolutely any and everything I need or want to do with my hair. I suggest adding some baggying and greenhouse effect to your overnight routine and adding an amino acid supplement to your vitamin routine. Looks like you're starting over really healthy, so if you stay consistent you'll be amazed by the end of the summer. God bless!
