Has anyone else tried Henna. I just did and BOY was it messy. Idk if I could do it again lol

I've tried it a couple of times (Henna and indigo) and now my BFF uses Henna as well. It wasn't messy because I used a bun method with no clips or pins. The henna mixture holds on to itself. I filmed it here: http://youtu.be/8nK3pPLZyp4

You get used to it. I make it thick enough that it doesn't run all over the place. If I mess up and make it a little too soupy then I make the indigo thicker so when I mix them together it's just the right consistency. I rinse it out in the shower. Haven't made a mess of it in years. You get better every time you try it. Don't be discouraged.

Yes I do it every few months. Henna followed by indigo. Leave my hair fabulous. The first few times was extremely messy but I'm a pro with it now.

The first time is always the messiest. The more your do it the better you get - practice makes perfect. Most of us long time henna users don't make any messes anymore. You'll get there if you stick with it.

Thanks guys ! after reading you guys replies I might try it some time in the future. Does anyone get the color to come out better after multiple uses ? Or am I going to have to get my hair chemically done ?

Like others have said, you have to get your mixture to the right consistency.
I've been successfully henna'ing monthly since 2008!! I use only and exclusively Godrej NUPUR Henna (http://www.godrejnupur.com/). I try to keep my mix very simple:
-room temperature brewed coffee
-Amla Oil
-Conditioner
-NUPUR Henna
That's it. I mix my henna, and apply on Friday night before bed. I don't wait for any color release since I get all that while I sleep. In the AM, I rinse out the henna, and proceed with a really moisturizing regimen. And all done. I've been doing this close to 6years now, so my hair has reached henna saturation. My hair color is a permanent auburn-ish/reddish/darkbrown. In doors its totally black, but outside in the sun, when I tilt my head just so...you can just barely see the auburn hue in the hair. Its so very pretty. Unfortunately I've never been able to capture that on camera.
NUPUR Henna, has 9 additional indian herbs that are great for hair and scalp...along with pure mehendi henna. That's why I don't use anything else. You can never remove henna, you can only grow it out. Its just like a relaxer in that sense, since you cannot remove your relaxer either, but you can only grow it out. you can play around with different hues and shades of henna when mixed with indigo and/or other Indian powders. My mixture is thick, when it does fall on the floor it looks like poop balls so no biggie with picking it up lol

I noticed color after the first 4 applications. It gets more intense with time. You can also play with color. Some people add hibiscus for more intense red. I liked cocoa powder to bring down the reds.
My mix is simple: distilled water or tea.

YEah, today was my second time doing it and it was most messy that first time. Mine is runny, but effective. I let the henna soak overnight. As far as color, mine made my hair a little darker. Not sure if its because of the coffee and tea I brewed and added in it.

I use it to cover gray and some hennas give me a Lucille Ball red. Rajasthani Twilight is more of a deep dark almost burgundy when mixed with the indigo.

The smell of henna is omg ... So horrible lol I can't get it out my head (the smell)

Awww...I love the smell. Natural! Smells like gardening to me (which I also love). What do you rinse with? I use loads of cheap V05 conditioner. Then I slather my hair with coconut oil and wrap it in plastic wrap and hot towels for a few hours. By then the smell is mostly gone. After a day or so I can't smell it at all which is sad because I love it!

Ihave an issue with the 2 step process covering the gray hairs around my face.Th rest of my hair comes out jet black just the front remains a reddish color. I tried multiple brands of henna, always add salt to the indigo while it dye releases. I've tried these ingredients in my mixes:
Coffee-still reddish color
Tea- still redish color
Sugar-still red...........ugh........any suggestions?
I love everything else about henna just not the red color.......help please

Yes I henna first then rinse it out and then put in the indigo mixed with just warm water and a teaspoon of salt. The front of my hair is reddish while from the ears to the back of my head is jet black
