Regret going natural, regret shaving my hair

Anyone know of a strong hair vitamin that produces fast, reliable results (in your experience)? I think a good vitamin regimen could only help. Viviscal and Nioxin come to mind. Any others?

When I initially shaved my hair down to the scalp I found my self in a similar position. After 8 months I still didn't have enough hair to hold on to to braid. My issue was internal, I was low on zinc, iron, and my amino acids was off. I tried a variety of remedies...juicing, chollera, spruilina, MSM, Collagen and I saw result with all of them. For example Chollera helped with extreme shedding, Collagen helped with dryness, multi vitamin and MSM helped me retain length. It will take a bit of research and a Dr visit, but its worth it.

I agree with those that recommended having your bloodwork done. The problem is probably internal. But also please keep your hair moisturized and as stretched as possible. After washing, braid them even though it may take a long time and the braids are tiny.

I will go a different route and say, I hope you feel more beautiful w/ your low cut than having relaxed damaged hair.

Me personally, I'd rather have a healthy short hair than damaged relaxed hair.

SN: I knew a girl who cut her hair and wearing wigs was damaging her hair. Not sure if her hair not being long enough to cornrow contribute to breakage.

I feel the frustration in your post--and I'm so sorry you're going through all this. I think I echo everyone in here in terms of keeping your hair moisturized. Your hair does look a little parched.

I know when I need moisture, I turn to my good ol' reliable plastic cap. I wear that thing to bed every night (along with a silk bonnet). It's known as the "green house effect" as the moisture from the plastic shower cap creates a nice warm, steamy, tropical environment for your hair to grow in. It helps to produce more Sebum on your scalp which is your body’s natural oil, ultimately nourishing your hair and helping it grow. For me personally, when I do this, I notice significant growth. I try to do it as much as possible (or as often as my husband can stand to hear the plastic cab swishing around at night).

Please keep us posted.

If OP moved from Nigeria to the UK, she is dealing with hard water issues. Once she figures that out, she will be fine. That water is a beast.

I saw another thread of yours Stephanay and i noticed that you had an issue with patches of hair loss. do you think the problem is related to those areas? Have they filled in? Are you getting even growth all over? Did u ever find out what caused the hair loss?

They have filled in. It was a case of using old relaxer

I think I will try a plastic cap on my hair with moisture in each night. Hope that helps. Thanks so much

I agree my hair is thicker so at least there's that

I did bloodwork. I have a vitamin d deficiency. Everything else internally is great.
I'm taking supplements so hopefully by next year I will have optimum levels

Hey thanks I think it's internal too!
So what do you suggest I do? Is collagen a tablet?

:hug2: I felt the pain in your post. Sorry it's not working out for you this time. What are you doing differently than what you did the first time you shaved? What was your growth rate the first time you shaved? I'm asking because you may need to go back to the products and regimen you had before when you saw results. Also, is your hair dryer in your new place (assuming you moved since you're not in Nigeria anymore)? Have you checked the type of water you have?

I don't know what water I use but my hair is really dry I think it's internal problems rAther than external
When I first shaved it was growing really rapidly it was in the summer so I probably got lots of vitamin d I was also taking vitamins religiously

Yes. I agree w/this. Regardless of how "natural," using a shampoo each week would not do my hair right. Try cowashing every week, and shampooing once a month. What is your regimen and the specific products/techniques? You never did say. Maybe we can pinpoint something since your health doesn't seem like that much of a factor. Do you know your hair properties? Density, thickness, and porosity? Have you visited the TWA support thread?

I know it's a fine texture tightly coiled 4c I think. It's quite thick but I don't know if it's porous water and moisture leaves my hair very quickly

I had a major problem with hard brittle crunchy hair, what remedied the situation was pre poo oil treatments and oil rinses. I live in London too I was getting to the point of deciding to chop all my hair off till I started the oil rinses. I also chelate regularly with the ORS aloe shampoo

How do you chelate

It's in braids now so I usually just tie it up but that isn't the cause of why my hair is refusing to grow

Ummm... How can you be so sure? Since you don't know what the cause of your hair's refusal to grow IS, don't be so quick to rule things out. Instead, try everything (within reason) that may be beneficial. Somethings as simple as sleeping with a satin bonnet, addressing hard water or shampooing less often make a world of difference in moisture levels & therefore, length retention.

Girl I'm pretty sure we could be hair twins! It's so creepy but my hair looks exactly like yours and I had a similar problem until recently. Geez the top part of my head even looks like yours a bit...

Anywho my problem was that I wasn't getting enough protein. I was having breakage around the same areas of my hairline because my hair is extra fine in those areas and extremely weak because I didn't have a good enough protein in my regimen. The rest of my hair wasn't showing growth either. Not that I've added a Nexxus Emergencee to the mix I'm really seeing my growth. I can even tell when I've had a growth spurt. I'm also vitamin d deficient so I'm going to get back to taking the supplements that my doctor suggested for maintenance after finishing the prescription tablets. Getting my protein/moisture levels in check was the main thing that helped...and adding jbco after aloe Vera juice spritzes nightly

Eta: I just shaved my head completely bald in October and was seeing very little progress. I re-shaved on New Year's day started using the things mentioned above and am getting close to where you are now and I'm also wearing a wig. I say this to say that finding what works can really help with turning your hair around.

Thanks so much! I have a vitamin d deficiency and I'm on supplements too. I've just started so hopefully in a few months that will help.

Gonna try and buy the nexxus when I have money to spare but I will definitely do some homemade egg treatments in the meantime and see if that helps.
In terms of protective styles what's yours if any? How are you keeping your hair?
I'm really struggling with mine as wigs annoy me and braids don't stay on for too long

I tried egg treatments and the only thing that REALLY worked was Nexxus. Eggs, gbp and even the ors replenishing conditioner are only good for maintenance with my hair. I hope the eggs work out for you though. Honestly I'm leaving my hair out under the wig for now. In about 3 weeks I plan to try braids. I'm sure to rinse my hair every morning. It's actually like an oil wash since I spritz my hair with aloe Vera at night and then massage with the jbco with some essential oils. This keeps my hair reasonably moist.

Oh and the vitamin d tablets do help with growth if you're deficient. The best thing I noticed is that they just helped me to feel better in general. More energy, better moods, etc.

I recently started taking a vitamin d supplement and noticed right away that I felt better in every way. I thought that it might've been the placebo effect but reading your comment lets me know that I'm not crazy. I need to take the pills more regularly though.

If the op has hard water she will need to chelate/clarify. None of this will work until she clarify/chelates her hair.

Please start with fresh and naked hair. Please listen to the poster that also lives in London about clarifying/chelating.

Then start with the other recommendations given on the forum.

I can't see any mentions on my IPhone. PM me if it is a must see. Allons y

Oh yes this is very true. I live in Florida and the water here is terrible. Before I started Nexxus I got the Malibu Well water system to help with hard water. That helped but the protein just brought all that together! My wash day Reggie is:

Shampoo with the hard water shampoo, apply the hard water crystals for 5 minutes then rinse THOROUGHLY, shampoo out with a moisturizing shampoo, apply Nexxus and sit under the dryer till hard, rinse THOROUGHLY shampoo out with a moisturizing conditioner, apply AOHSR and sit under the dryer for 20/25 minutes. Please be sure to follow the Nexxus with a moisturizing shampoo or you will end up with serious breakage. Then I rinse that out and apply coconut oil then a creamy leave in and a little of the jbco. This whole system turned my hair around to the healthiest it's been in years. At first I had to do the hard water treatment and Nexxus weekly. I still do the hard water treatment weekly because I rinse daily (moisture!) But Nexxus I can do every two or 3 weeks as needed now. I also have a shower filter but I noticed more of a difference in my skin than hair from the filter.

From what I read she has fine hair which MAY need protein. Additionally the Denman can cause a lot of breakage on fine hair no matter how gently you use it.
