I'm big chopping this week and just want to know what hair type I have. I know it's in the 4s for sure but 4 what?

Your curl pattern has no bearing on anything in regards to products or care. Porosity, density of strands/ \overall head of hair are far more important....all 3c, 4a,etc. hair types aren't created equal. Everything I have learned in regards to care, technique and products have been from those with looser & kinker/curlier textures than myself and it all worked! Also that growth may still be some scab hair. Congrats on your natural journey, you lucky rascal. I didn't have all these resources/ products when I transitioned over a decade ago. I see the possibility of 4a or 4a/4b :yep: but you won't be sure till you cut.

Thanks!! Yeah that's what I've been hearing, Yeah I'm definitely going to be back in the hair section again A LOT. I seriously can't wait.. but then I kinda can lol.

I was going to transition but I can not deal with two textures, I will have pictures when I big chop too.

Ok well I guess I'll tell you. It's to see what porosity your hair has. Whether it's high, low, or normal porosity. It helps to know this so you can choose the correct products for your hair. Get a bowl of water. Put a clean unconditioned piece of hair in it. Try to get a piece with the follicle still intacked. Place the hair in the bowl of water. If it sits on top after a few hours then you have low porosity hair meaning it will be hard to keep moisture in. If it sinks to the middle and stays there then you have normal porosity meaning you will have no problem keeping moisture and products in your hair. but if it sinks straight to the bottom you have high porosity hair meaning it soaks up water really well and that is not always good either. I hope I got that right.. lol

haha... Tell her ladies!

LOL thanks so I can only do this on fully natural hair huh?

Yes I think so. Any other hair has chemicals and you want to know what YOUR hair is... not how it is with chemicals added..

oh by the way, I wasn't trying to be funny when I said to let the ladies tell you. I was hoping someone could explain it better than me.. I haven't been here that long either... :)
