Im transitioning and wanted to do an iron out and dusting of ends and it was a fail. My hair will no longer allow me to straighten and my hair feel soft and bouncy. My newgrowth feels hard and resistant. Help!

I did dc. I used ors replenishing conditioner. No matter what i do.. this ng is so coarse and hard to deal with. My hair has a new name "sybil". Im so tired of this moody hair of mine.. if i scarf and dry overnight it looks nice and lays down but if I try to disturb it to section off for a braid out, its not good. My newgrowth dries rough. This buying numerous products to get it to be manageable is for the birds.

Maybe your new growth has a lower porosity than the rest of your hair. Try to add heat when you dc and see if that helps.

Try adding heat...and ORS Replenishing isn't the most moisturizing conditioner ever.

The reason I :look: in my first post was because I'm not natural, so I really shouldn't even be up in here. However, I'm almost 20 wks post, so I think I know a little something about handling new growth.

As I understand it, ORS Replenishing is considered a medium-strength protein. Looking at the ingredients, I can't see why, but I've never used it, so what do I know? Try again with a different (moisturizing) dc.

Bumping for replies. This just seems odd as someone else suggesting use a different dc or perhaps clarify then attempt it again ? Keep us posted :)

I say prepoo, wash, deep condition with a very moisturizing deep conditioner, just as the other's have suggested.

The prepoo may give your hair a boost of moisture needed for a silky flat iron. Make sure you DC for at least 1.5 hours with heat for 30 mins of the time.

That's right! I believe that's a protein dc & your tresses need a drink before you straighten. West is on this site & May have already posted. She has GREAT EASY TO UNDERSTAND tutorial on how she keeps her hair moisturizer. She also has a GREAT video of her straightening routine.:yep:

Thanks ajargon02

Since I'm not allowed to post my own links, Op if you google my name + flat iron, you'll find videos and other info I've shared.
