How do you use flexirods?

I have been thinking about purchasing some of these to use for tighter curls. I have only seen them in packages and I am wondering how they stay in hair and how you keep your hair rolled around the rods while under the dryer. I am sure there is probably a simple solution but i just can't figure it out. TIA

I'm not sure if this would be very helpful for you or not, but I have used flexi rods and have only used them on dry hair though. You are absolutely right about getting "tight" curls, because the first time I did them, I used about 4 and left them in all night and my hair was sooooo tight.

I did them the next time and only used 2 b/c I wanted looser curls, more like waves. Make sure you start at the very ends of your hair (may have to put an end paper around the ends to make sure it all stays together to go around the rod; if you don't gather all the ends up, you run the risk of having some hair that will be very curly and then some that will be sticking out randomly). You can also twist it loosely to make sure you catch all the hair up. Twist it all the way down like you are rolling and once you get whre you cant twist anymore, take the left end of the rod and flip it to the right and take the right rod and flip it (bend) to the left.

Letitia recently did one and she has some lovely curls that looked like they were done w/curlers or either rollerset:) . (pics in her fotki)....There are some other members that have mentioned doing them on wet hair, but I can't even imagine how that would work.

Sorry so long but hope that helps!!

Yes, I was 'wowed' at how great they turned out. I did exactly as BlackBarbie instructed.

Thanks BB.:)

First, use a good setting lotion that will mold your hair smoothly onto the roller. Curly pudding is good, especially for natural hair. For each small section of hair, start wrapping the ends around one end of the roller and work your way up the roller like a candy cane. At the root, bend the roller down so it looks just like a candy cane. The tension that you use when you roll and when you bend the end down keeps the roller in your hair.

Did you do this yourself? Your hair is very pretty!

Did someone say flexirods??? I have a tutorial in my fotki;)

Thanks. I have been wanting to try these for a while. I figured tight curly curls might come in handy when stretching.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I am trying to build my nerve to try this style.... But first I have to buy the flexirods. Maybe this weekend?

Thanks again.

What color flexirods are yall using? I have red and blue...but I think these may be too small? My sis uses the orange ones...just wondering.

a million thankyou's. I have seen this style done in the salons and have been dying to try it on my own hair. I'll be adapting it to braids but I think it'll still work cause a sponge roller set (:wallbash:, i know: dries out the hair) works. So thank alot

I have a few pics in my album. These pictures are from last year. I did another flexirod set this week, but the pic I took wasn't so great.

I use 3 rods. 4 max

*This thread is going to make me pull out my flexirods.*

:grin:I was thinkin the same thing Letitia! I tried to do it yesterday but I guess I used too many and couldn't get under the Pibbs. I was miserable!

Now a question about the placement of the rollers. Do you place them vertically or horizontally? Does it really matter?

Someone please tell me how long it takes something like this to dry. I guess it's going to depend on the lenght of your hair. I am just wondering If I am going to be stuck under the dryer all day.
