Would you pay $200 for two strand twists?

I saw a young man with some awesome twists and he told me where he got it done. He told me the lady is very gentle and uses a wide tooth comb. I like my twist-outs but I want to wear my hair in twists for 3 weeks straight but my twists are so-so, they are not uniform.

I went for a consultation because my hair is mid-back length she said it would be $200. Is that too much?

I see you're in Chicago, but in the Carolinas and Georgia, that's too much. Even if you don't bring your own hair, have APL hair, relaxed or natural and it's in a salon, that's too much.

Where I am: Without extension hair it is around $60. With extension hair, it is around $160. If it includes maintenance every 2 weeks then it is $200 to $220.

The only way I could see $200 being reasonable for twists with just your own hair would be if you had HairCrush's hair- super long and stupid thick. Then that seems totally reasonable. Besides that. . . . Twists are so much easier and faster to do than braids, so why pay braid extension prices?

That is waayy too much to pay for twists. You could get micros all over your head for less. And if its all ur hair it should be easier and faster.

$200÷3 weeks= $67 a week. Would u normally spend that much a week on hair?

I see a lot of naturals on YT doing tutorials on twisting and braiding their own hair. It looks a lot easier than adding extensions. If you have the patience you could do it yourself.

I learned how to do twists with and without extensions using yt tutorials.

The only way I would pay $200 for twists is if they were apl or longer, small sized and there were 2 braiders to get me out of there faster.

As it is, I only do medium sized twists no longer than shoulder length because I refuse to spend more than 12 hours doing my own hair.

i'm from Chicago and the answer is heck yes that's too much! I don't even pay that much for micros braids. I've been natural 3yrs and youtube is the only stylist i need, it took some practice on the weekends when i wasnt going nowhere to get styles the way i liked them but now i'm never pressed to pay anybody to do anything in my head. I'd suggest trying it on your own, and if it takes you awhile just do the perimeter first and wear them up until you can finish it another day. Aint nobody got time for that...smh $200 twists?!

Everybody posting prices and not taking into account that OP said her hair is MBL.

I've paid that amount for single braids in the past when my hair was BSL. I also had 2 people working on my head so it could be done faster. Could I have paid less on 125th Street? Yes. But I'd also be dodging the mice running around and all the other foolishness up there. Or on here screaming about a setback from too tight braids.

If getting your hair done has value to you then go ahead and do it. At the very least get it done once and then you can redo for yourself one section at a time. This way it will be parted the way you want and maybe you can learn some technique while watching the initial session so you will be able to keep it up for yourself.

NO this is why I learned to do them myself. People always want to charge me a huge amount for twists with my own hair and that is just crazy. They will only last a couple of weeks and that money is gone. If it included hair and would last a while I could justify it. I suggest watching some youtube tutorials and checking out the book Let's Talk Hair (this is the book that taught me to do my twists). I some info on twisting on my links below. But $200 is waaaay too much IMO.

If you're considering paying 200 for twists, I'm in the wrong business. Wouldn't you rather rock some slightly mishapen twist that you yourself put in for free than pay a stranger 200 dollars?

Take a weekend and do them then spend the 200 quid you saved doing nice things for yourself

Thanks for your advice, I ain't given her the money. I just want very neat sections and same size twists but I have a friend that is doing it for free.
