Let me tell it, so on Saturday night I'm like "let me do a over night per poo with my coconut oil " so I saturated my hair and scalp, out on a plastic cap and my silk scarf and tried to go to sleep, my scalp kept itching constantly and I kept scratching, I literally didn't get any sleep because I was scratching and was 2 seconds about to wash my hair but stayed laying down because I didn't want to wake SO(he had to go to work). So I get up after he leaves and take my scarf and plastic cap off and my hair is wet, and I'm like how it get wet?! I'm not a heavy sweater at all. In 100 degree whether my body only feels like its about to sweat but doesn't for some reason. So I got to take my root tip applicator bottle and apply the shampoo to my hair and noticed its so tangled and I'm like "it will loosen up after I wash it out". To my dismay my hair was still a tangled mess. After I rinsed out I did a protein treatment (mayo, eggs, and honey) and I thought maybe this will make it more manageable WRONG! I then did a moisture dc and could barely run my fingers through my hair or put the applicator com through my tangles. I was suppose to have my hair done before he got home but I sat there knowing I was in a bad situation. I told him while he at work and he said "don't touch it I will be home in a few" being hard head I still did once section and lost so much hair, my hair was literally DREADED! I stopped doing it when he came and told him I'm about to CUT THE REST OUT!! (Know darn well I was lying) he screams "you better not, go get the comb I will do it, you have no patience". He detangled my whole head and gently finger combed it and used wide teeth comb(he took forever and I was very grateful. I seriously wanted to cry, omg you guys should of saw IT! My hair was so tangled I feel grateful for the tangles I usually get. Moral of the story, well at least for me is to never fall asleep with anything in my hair again, I'm scared to even do conditioner. I usually wash my hair every week, think I'm going to do two weeks this time to give it a break , I lost so much HAIR! But you can't tell and I don't know why being that my hair isn't so thick especially the ends. omg you should of seen how dreaded my hair was, he used mane and tale while combing but still it didn't help much. Tell me about your worst wash ever puhleeze! :)

Girl I FEEL YOU! Back in college I went natural and at 10 months post suffered the worst wash day ever.

I shampooed my hair it was fine. I then DC'ed and it was still fine, but then...it happened *Takes deep breathe.

I pull out one of the worst things that ever happen to my hair....Herbal Essence Hello Hydrations conditioner. I was about to detangle with it in sections, like I have done with V05 numerous times before with no problems whatsoever.

Girl.......My hair matted up soooooo bad, that I literally had to do a big chop that night. I still had like inch or so of relaxed hair left and chile unlike you I cried many of tears. My boyfriend at the time loved it and told me it was pretty, but I knew I looked like a chicken head from hell. It was so horribly uneven. I had to straighten to even it up. I was ok after I seen how full it was, but chilllllleeeeeeeeeee I was hurt to see my length go :(. I went from Almost APL to Collarbone length :cry3:

Just know, we've all been there once or twice, so don't feel to bad. It'll bounce back...I know it :yep: :hug2:.

EnExitStageLeft lol @ chicken head from hell rofl, I hope so I see my hair thickening up and can tell the part where I started relaxing verses the salon and my part is much thicker just don't want no set backs, it just seem like when you see the YouTube videos and after they wash and detangle they do it with ease, it seem like it be already detangled if you ask me (rolling eyes)

Girl I detangled in the shower under running water with loads of conditioner. It s easy and takes me about 10 to 20 minutes (and it only takes 20 during a really long, like 4 to 6 month, stretch).

I only did it that way because I was transitioning and it took a while, like 30 mins. I never had a problem till I tried that dag'gon horrible behind conditioner . I said never again and went back to my V05 .

Op, you may have had a protein overload. Coconut oil acts like protein for some people, and it takes a longgg time to recover from a protein overload. I did a moisture pre-poo then did a HARD protein treatment for about an hour one time....hair felt great. Next day my hair was matted and dreading and felt like someone poured glue on my head. Took about a week and a half to get my hair back manageable by only dcing and cowashing with a moisture conditioner, no protein conditioners or oils that acted like protein (including coconut).. Turns out my hair doesnt like coconut regardless.

Your SO deserves a prize...mine just looked at me and blinked when I had my worst session. :nono: I had read someone say they're extremely protein sensitive but they can wash with a protein poo diluted with water.

Like a dumbass I decided to try this to use up this new bottle I got back when I didn't know my hair was sensitive. This here shampoo...I mean I have never seen my hair so glued to itself in my life. That scored me a 17 hour detangling session as I didn't dare put any tool anywhere near that situation. I had so many SSKs I lost count and I had to cut 2 sections. I'm transitioning so I didn't mind cutting the perm, but hammercy if this woulda happened when I was natural...

Thankfully the hair I lost was mostly shed hair, I checked for bulbs. I realized that if one pulls horizontally (side to side) the knot loosens, if one pulls vertically (up and down) it tightens. I only pulled up when I had made a gap big enough to release at least one strand. Daaang did I learn good that day :lachen:

hnntrr Amarilles I was thinking the same thing that it was a protein overload but I was sweating so thought the sweat(since it has salt) along with me scratching like I was crazy dreaded my hair no?

First of all, THAT'S A GOOD MAN RIGHT THERE! (Clap clap clap) ;)

Second of all, glad u survived the incident.

This has happened to me before. When overnight conditioning. I don't do that anymore. I use oil overnight, but not with a plastic cap. I apply the oil lightly. Braid. Then put a couple of scarves on and sleep on a towel. In the morning I apply more oil and wear a plastic cap for 20-30 minutes.

For me overnight conditioning is not the way to go. Especially with a creamy conditioner....that's just asking for trouble. Lol

Yikes that sounds like a night mare you have the greatest boyfriend ever !

I remember when I took out my sew in I had for 6 weeks I washed it with aphogee smhhhh and im like hey let me do a protein treatment WORST mistake ever my hair tangled so bad and it was super dry smh I lost so much hair that day I will never shampoo my hair with aphogee again that thing makes my hair dry I dont know who told me to do a protein treatment after talk about protein overload lol

The same thing happened to me with an overnight pre poo with coconut oil. I don't know why I keep thinking coconut oil works for me!

lilmama

I do overnight prepoo's and dc's pretty often. I think the natural body heat generated and trapped in the baggie while you were sleeping is what caused your hair to be wet when you woke up. I recently had bad tangling and matting after shampooing. I think it was caused by the fact that I did not detangle before prepooing.

Both sides of my hair became one big tangled mess!! I had to take each strand apart with my fingers after saturating with vo5 and water. The cause on each side was one tiny shed hair with a single strand knot in it!!

I also have never prepoo'd with coconut oil. However I do like sealing with it. I usually prepoo with a growth aide like brahmi or amla oil and I have begun adding a deep conditioner on top of the oil. But first I detangle!

8 years ago I had just found LHCF and learned about micro braids and sewins helping ladies with retention. So I got micros for the first time. When I took them out I did not comb out my hair and just went straight to washing it :nono: I had some serious dreads.

And OF COURSE, LHCF's website was down... out of all days! I was in tears, and decided to call my stylists who explained to me what I did wrong and how I needed to use a good conditioner to comb it out. After 2 hours I was still struggling with matted hair... not getting far at all, so I called her again

I'm sure I had other traumatic hair experiences but I think I remember that the most because LHCF was down that same day and I felt so alone.

Your SO is a good man

My wash day from hell is actually what kicked off my HHJ.

Before LHCF, I was a sew-in fanatic and a lazy one at that. I would keep my sew-ins in my head for no less than 2 months with very little upkeep. When my bangs started lifting, I'd pin them down and keep it pushing; I was that bad.

Anyway so I'd just taken down my sew-in and saturated my dusty hair with detangler and a slew of conditioners. That's how my mom always handled my hair post sew-in and she could always coax it back to life with seemingly little trouble. Well I go to comb my hair and its completely matted. Instead of being patient and detangling, I figured heat was the answer so I shampooed my hair as best I could and whipped out the blowdryer. I lost so much hair that day, the amount I ended up throwing away was quite literally the size of a soccer ball.

But I didn't care. My see-through ends were touching APL for the first time in my life. I was cocky enough to think that I could pull off natural hair with ease now that my hair was so long. With my very 1st visit to a natural salon, I ended up having to get cut back to just above SL, it was that bad. Good times! :lachen: :lachen: :lachen:

Wow, you are lucky to have your SO! My DH would have looked at me like :look:

It does sound like some type of protein overload from the coconut oil prepoo and the protein treatment. Was your hair braided up for bed?

Yes it was, in four twist, i think it was the sweat that matted it, i slept with a plastic Cap, and i kept scratching that day for some reason and i started sweating which i hardly do especially on many scalp that much

Omg I have come a long way, I don't have those problem anymore, I am so happy, I have smooth wash days (tearing up)
