This is a great article and proves just how much power black America has over the economy. Not only was this country built on the backs of our ancestors but our country stands on our dollars!

We're not falling for the okie doke any more and these snake companies know it. They prey on the newly natural or the newly hair conscious. Most newbies (I know I did) start out as pj's because they are trying to find what works based on what works for someone whose hair they either wish they had or do have. But no two heads area like.
 
I still remember the first time I started seeing products claiming to have evco or argon oil in it. First thing I said was "Jebus they got a membership to LHCF and they are spying on us!!!" Then you look at the ingredients and the oil is like the 3rd to last thing on the list after fragrance!!! Dafuq!!!!

Nope, my reggie is cheap and works and that's how I like it. They will not trick me. I am not a sheep!
 
And we can have the same effect on the weave companies too. Human hair is retarded expensive compared to how much the company pays to get the hair. 9 time out of 10 the person whose hair is wefted didnt even get a dime for their contribution.

Yeah, Im no longer falling for the hype. I find myself more and more ordering my own natural ingredients and mixing my own stuff. I go into stores and read the ingredients and immediately reject the product if I don't like what I see; and thats 90% of the time.

I do think that vloggers with large followings should be paid for their reviews of a product. I personally wouldn't wanna be putting all that different unknown stuff on my hair but... to each his own. I mostly watch YT for tutorials and for the entertainment value of some of the hair gurus. I don't rely on them for product suggestions. I can read the ingredients of a product and tell if its a good fit for my hair.
 
And on top of that if you've noticed, our cheapie stuff has increased in price too!

Suave got wind we were loving some of their naturals conditioners and the price hopped from $0.99 to like $2! Grant it that's not bank breaking, but we make a difference. A huge difference. With out us these companies are nothing and we have to remember that. We have the power, not them

Thats another thing!!! All of a sudden companies get some street cred amongst the natural hair forums and youtube then they hike up the price, replace ingredients with cheaper ingredients and still expect us to spend our hard earned money on that mess

YEAH!! Like today I bought some ORS creamy aloe poo at Walgreens. I use this as my 1st wash pretty often. I looked at the ingredients while stopped at the light and saw cones and other chemicals that weren't there before. And the ones I liked have been removed. So I politely stopped at another walgreens and took it back!!
 
What I do know, if Aussie Moist goes off the market or changes things up I'mma need bail money. I will lose it! I will have a one woman riot like none have seen before!!!
 
these companies think they are living in the age where only a handful of black women can read or are educated. We are no fools, we research, experiment and love to prove things, with that said they need to get their act together and cease making those products that are loaded with synthetic and generic materials thinking we wont know whats in them.

lmao.....if they which to remain in this industry and be profitable then i suggest they seriously research their market (buyers) before they think they can fools us. We dont play with our hair health and length, if it means resorting to making our our products, that we will do. (At least i know i will).

Aussie Moist and Aussie 3 Minute Miracle always do me right. I stray and try fancier stuff, but always find my way back to them. If they change, I'll riot with you!

YESSS!!! I used to love their hair mayo conditioner until they changed the formula, talking about 'New and Improved!'. Ugh, that stuff does nothing for my hair now, it is pure crap.
 
I have recently decided that I will no longer use shampoos, baking soda washes my hair quite good and I'm sticking to that. Less spending better results, happier hair.

The human hair thing can get me going for hours. It amazes me to see people lined up to buy 'human' hair not realizing there is NO WAY POSSIBLE they can grow hair fast enough to keep us wigged and weaved up like they do. We purchase hair every three months and they are NEVER back ordered, lol. All the members of this board can order 10 wigs every day in the next month from the same company and they will have a supply, lol.

Instead of hair I want the formula that keeps their hair growing fast enough to keep selling it to us, lol. It's no way that hair is 100% human hair.

Interesting! Never thought about it. Wouldn't it be neat if Black women could learn how to make this "human hair" and take back that part of the haircare industry from those rude Asians? That's something this board should definitely be looking into! I would definitely invest or help out.

I'm waiting for an explanation on this. I think you are absolutely right and if someone from one of these companies cares to explain, that would be great. Especially since human hair is not supposed to be altered in any way when it is given to the company, you'd have to find an awful lot of women who have ridiculously long hair without some kind of color, rinse, chemical or other wise alteration. And they'd have to be giving you hair every day to keep up with the demand.

I use half gallon of water to three tablespoons baking soda. The amount of baking soda I use really depends on how dirty my hair is or how much build up I have.

Separate and apart from that, I put my hair in six sections, in my hand or a small container I make a paste of a small amount of baking soda and water and apply it to my scalp along the parter sections. I scrub each section gently for half a minute. I let it sit on my hair as i work through the other sections, i then rinse with the half gallon baking soda and water mix I made previously. After working through all the sections I do a final rinse under the shower with plain water. Alot of persons use acv as their final rinse but I don't because I follow up with a DC Treatment which I make myself.

I find that after rinsing out my DC my hair is much softer, smoother and less frizzy. I think the baking soda helps to open the cuticles of my hair thus allowing the DC to better penetrate my strands. Rinsing with cold water should help to close the cuticles.

India has about half a billion women who could be potential stock for a couple million black women (tops), and whatever thousands of white and hispanic women. That's plenty of hair from one group of people. Throw in Malaysians, Peruvians, and Brazilians and there's more than enough human hair to go around. Not that many people wear weaves or use extensions compared to number of long-haired women in Asia and South America. Plus every person chopping off their hair is likely to have a fast growth rate. 16 or 18" weft wouldn't take that long to grow.

Talking about people who need to take control of their industry, I hope one day Indian women get power in the weave industry. Not only are they giving up apart of their bodies, then they have to wash it and prepare it too! And all they get is enough money to stay impoverished so that they can keep providing a cheap human commodity for us to buy up! Is there such a thing as fair-trade human hair?

It's just hard to believe those women have all that hair to sell. Has anyone ever noticed when they watch a human hair wig review on YouTube the hair is FLAWLESS. Just BEAUTIFUL (its real) Then when you order the wig yours isn't the same? I mean its ooookay (acceptable) but not like the persons on YouTubes video. We have been purchasing this weave and wig hair for 10+ years now (not just in the US) and the overall quality of hair has changed.

What led me to this way of thinking is one time I was asking a company about the quality of their hair before i purchased and she told me in writing (email) that they did not mix animal hair into their hair like the other companies and their hair was real. She didn't say which animal but she did say it.

Logically it's hard to believe... I mean... How do you pay 200 to 300 dollars for 'human' hair and then they also have 'human' hair for $1700.00. Is that the same 200 dollar Virgin hair we order, lol.

This is easy money for them. They don't even have to try to sell it to us.. We beg them for the hair. They don't even like us coming into their local beauty supplies. They watch us and want us to hurry up and buy (and leave so they don't have to see you longer than they have to).

The crazy thing is I KNOW they think we are crazy lining up for hair like that (walking right past the black beauty supply without a second thought just to get to their store). AND THEY DON'T EVEN LIKE US.

I can only image what they talk about at family get togethers... "Them black girls are easy money... You should try. I will show you how. Just open a shop, lol. They can't even understand it because when the need a doctor or attorney you betta believe they WON'T be callin us.
 
I agree about the human hair issue. I walk into my local BSS warehouse and there's literally hundreds and I mean HUNDREDS of human hair samples on the walls, hanging from shelves, etc.

Then there's the gazillion vendors online.

Many of these are most likely human/synthetic blends or outright synthetic being sold as human hair. I've boought plenty in the past both wefted and bulk. And many times--MANY--after 1 diluted wash and condition if feels and acts just like synthetic hair :( . Getting all balled up and hard after a wash or 2. It's disgusting and a rip off!

As far as products, the only things I buy anymore are DCs (as natural as I can get) and a chealting/clarifying shampoo I use once a month or on DD hair after swimming. Otherwise, my hair is breaking, scalp itching or I find scabs.
 
There was a time I used to wish I worked in a big hair product company so i could watch old white men confused as to why relaxer sales were down Lol
