I mix my shea with the following: grapeseed oil, avocado oil, coconut oil, and olive oil. Makes a nice smooth butter for my twists.

I mix my shea butter with grapeseed oil coconut oil olive oil neem oil castor oil and I mix it on high to make it fluffy. we use it for everything. no more buying lotion or lip balm

What the ladies above said and:

coco butter (GREAT winter sealer)
African baobab oil
argan
sunflower oil
refined peanut oil
mango butter
hemp seed butter
pumpkin seed butter

I mix mine with:

Coconut Oil
Grapeseed Oil
A few drops of Rosemary Oil
Vitamin E Oil

Or I just use it by itself, but spray some of my water/avj mix on it(to soften it up a bit) before applying.

Safflower oil, olive oil, and aloe using a magic bullet mixer. I only add the aloe if I'm twisting or braiding my hair.

Shea butter, coconut oil, a little glycerine, and olive oil, and castor oil. Also add liquid vitamins A,D, E, and different essential oils for scent. Ylang-ylang, and neroli. Neroli smells so good to me and pairs well with the other essential oil. I use it for hair as well as skin. I haven't had to buy lotion or hair creams since making and using this on my hair and skin. I have fun mixing this stuff up too .

i suggest any of the following oils:
hemp
sapote
grapeseed
castor
olive oil
evco
palm

if you add anything water based like aloe gel/juice add a preservative. antioxidants (vitamin e, rosemary, grapefruit seed) are different than preservatives (geogard ultra, optiphen, etc.)

if you want an natural essential oil based scent i suggest any of 1 or more of the following:
virginia cedarwood
ylang ylang
lavender
orange
lime
lemon
grapefruit
vetivier
ginger
rosemary
myrrh
frankincense

the best places to get essential oils from online are new directions aromatics, aromaland, and mountain rose herbs.:yep:

What is being used to wash it out? I recall going through so much to get rid of buildup that it ruined the benefits.

My mix:

  • Shea butter
  • Vatika coconut oil
  • Jamaican black castor oil
  • lemongrass ess.(keeps hair and scalp from smelling, I workout, strengthens follicles for growth and less shedding.)
  • rosemary ess.(growth)
  • citronella ess. (keep bugs away--few drops)
  • peppermint ess. oil(circulation and growth)

This is a very summery mix.:yep:

i aslo forgot to mention i don't use my mix on my hair just my body, though it would probably work just.:yep:

chile it was my precious evco i use for cooking & errrthing under the sun (hair, body oil, etc.) i can laugh now it wasn't that funny when it happened though:nono: i brought some red palm oil the other day to switch things up with cooking & will multi-purpose it too:yep: she likes using my stuff but she doesn't try to take it usually thank goodness, she's coming up to nyc to visit me in august. i'll make her some whipped shea butter as a treat, since she's been a good mama:grin:

I mix mines with coconut oil & aloe vera juice. I melt the shea butter & the coconut oil & while its still warm I mix in the AVJ. I mix it by hand for like 10min b/c the AVJ tends to separate from the oils but once it's well blended it becomes kinda whipped. I use it on my body, but you can use it for ur hair. All of my hair products have shea butter in it.

I mixed my melted Shea butter with grapeseed oil and Hawaiian silky 14 in 1. I'll see how it does. My rational was moisture and sealing. I parted my freshly washed hair and applied to each section I praised my hair. I wear a wig for protective styling. I will check in with all next week I bought this last two pounds of Shea butter off of amazon

.....and also, is there anywhere within the 5 boroughs where you can find unrefined versions? I'm tired of ordering my butters online.

keyawarren not sure I get mines online. if you have a african store near you or just know someone that is coming from Ghana see if you can get some.

I get mines unrefined and I don't go through the process of melting it.
