I have..I'm currently at BSL and all I do is wash n go's...There is a woman that used to be here named Elle something and she exclusively wears wash n go's and he hair is past BSL..She is on youtube as well, let me see if I can find her.
ETA: Found her youtube http://www.youtube.com/user/denimpixie?feature=watch
Waist Length chiming in. I do wash n go's 99.999999% of the time. No protective styling, no twists, no braids, no hiding ends, no nothing. PS'ing isn't for me, so I don't even fake the funk.
I'm MBL and I did wash n'gos for 99% of my first 2 years. Now I do them less frequently, so like 50% of the time. I retained length way better my first 2.5 years. Styling (twisting, braiding, etc) is highly overrated.
Adding a good bit of product does help prevent ssks, and so does DCing and hot oil treatments. And not letting your hair get dry and frizzy, which is the problem I keep having.
@suns4i6e , could you share your routine and products? Because I'm trying to get to where you are.
Has anyone here done it already? I'm tired of twists. Buns are stupid.
Will shingling even help with single strand knots?
I have done wash and gos since I became fully natural 4 years ago I think I'm at now
Single strand knots I had tons of them in the beginning!!
I was only using the green Eco styler then which I think is heavier in glycerin
I think this gave me single strand knots that and the formulation is too gloopy for my hair and the high glycerin content attracted dust like crazy which then attracted tangles
I changed Eco strength about 3.5 Years in and haven't seen single strand knot since
Before I could literally feel them all over my hair
My hair is very thick my curls are the diameter of a pencil

Which Eco styler do you use now?
I think that retaining length with wash n'gos would be difficult for type 4, specifically non-silky type 4, but not impossible. To be honest, the 3c portions of my crown and left front are the longest sections of my hair. My 4b sections are about 5 inches shorter than the rest of my hair because it's so dang fragile and finickySeems the consensus is primarily type 3 with a 4a or two sprinkled in. I still think this is.difficult for 4s. I hope a few Type 4s who had success speak up.
Queen Helene Cholesterol DC! My hair almost felt like whipped butter. Is there some way to have less crunch when you wash n go? I am going to end PS until it gets cold again.
i did it. all i wear is wash and goes cause aint no body got time fo braids and what not. plus my hair is low/medium density and twists and braids dont look good on my hair IMO.
anyway i w&g eveyday, co washing every other day unless i put my hair in a bun.
im WL now and have been natural for 4 years. i have major shrinkage though so thats protective styling in itself.
oh and my hair type is 3c 4a, low to medium density and major shinkage. my hair comes to my shoulders when shrunken.
This is an interesting thread for sure.
I am trying my best to make WnGs work for sure - I'm sick of buns and whatnot.
Though I have defined curls from 4a - 3b and probably some 4b, I have major shrinkage. My curls are so diverse my hair could look lopsided if I don't style it right.
I know using a lot of product is a faux pas in some hair circles but being modest with products during a WnG leaves my hair completely tangled and dry, dry, dry.
How much product do you use?
What do you use?
Gel or no Gel?
How long do the styles last (how many days?)
I was grazing BSL before I cut my hair (simply because I wanted a blunt cut, my nape hangs a lot). I can't say this enough: ACTIVATOR GEL! lol this combined with styling gel, or used by itself, gives me super soft, moisturized hair. I recommend Long Aid or Worlds of Curls curl activator gel. And when it comes to wash and gos, I say, the more product the better (especially on your ends). If I don't use enough gel my hair gets tangly and my really loose sections will knot up pretty bad. I do have some SSK, but I think that's just a part of having curly hair. I wash and go 99% of the time. I love wash and gos![]()
Also, activator gel helps with shrinkage. I've used styling gel by itself before, and it makes my hair super dry and gives me craaazy shrinkage. Activator gel is my moisturizer and is a staple part of my regimen. When I rinse my hair in the shower the next morning, my hair feels soft and supple, like after conditioning. Seriously. Activator gel. Get sumadat lol
