I saw that she posted a recipie similar to terressentials mud wash (i'm guessing). I've been waiting for weeks for her to post this! :D

Im wanting to try it very, soon!!!

Since I do shampoo my scalp often, I've been wondering if clay would be good for my hair and scalp. I generally don't drop that much dime on my hair at once so I really need to know if ordering all of that is worth it.

cant access youtube at work, but I watched it this morning .... I think I have everything but the linden seed oil (linden seed is an ingredient in terressential washes) and the rose hip oil. I was planning to get rose hip oil for some reason that I cant remember now :giggle:

ingredients are AVJ, rhassoul clay, linden seed oil, ylang ylang oil and rose hip oil ... dont remember the ratios :look:

I've been waiting for this with bated breath, but for me it's really not convenient to be getting all those EO's and such. At this stage in my hair game I'm tired of doing all this mixing and matching I just want it to be all natural and pre-package. My wash day is already long enough :nono:

I dunno, I find it extremely unnecessary. Her hair didn't grow on Terressentials, neither on this concoction.

I've been washing with rhassoul for 2-3 months now and I use EVOO and water. Depending on my mood I might add ACV, cocoa butter and/or honey...but yeah, the mudwash works beautifully no matter what I throw in there it seems. I wouldn't waste my time and money looking for all those EOs.

The EOs are important for the scalp more so than for your hair. The mudwash didn't help her hair grow but she does talk about how the hair at her crown improved greatly after using the mudwash.

I have scalp issues and thinning. Those that know my issues know that I had a large area that was damaged. It burned and was often sore. The EOs treat areas like that.

If you don't have any issues with your scalp or grown than skipping the EOs is cool. But for people who do have issues or notice that the crown is acting weird, it does help.

But you can definitely change the EOs you use: the quantity and the type.

Love her and I'm glad this mix works well for her hair.

But if I would never go out and buy all those ingredients to make a mud wash.

faithVA, are you still using Teressentials or are you going to use her recipe?

I am still using terressentials. I can't watch the video at work so I don't know what her recipe is. No one has listed the recipe in this thread so far.

The terressentials is pretty much $29 after shipping. For anyone that uses the terressentials, does it look like the price of making the recipe would be comparable?

I know I can't just throw some clay and oils in my head and it work. I don't have that kind of hair. If it's not the right recipe my hair will smack me down.

I saw this comment on her video- in reference to your ingredients question.

The price of the ingredients MINUS the aloe vera juice, MINUS shipping is $63.00.
According to MountainRoseHerbs (MRH) and choosing the smallest/cheapest amounts offered:
*Mountain Rose Herb Rhassoul Clay - 1 lb $9
*Ylang Ylang Essential Oil - 0.5 oz $17
*Rosehip Seed Oil Bulk - 8 oz $18.50
*Nettle Extract (Leaf) - 1 oz $9.25
*Linden Extract 1 oz $9.25
Teressentials is $19.50, excluding tax, for one 8 oz. bottle of mud wash ($10.50 wash plus $8.75 shipping for the one bottle.)

Yeap Mountainrose has great ingredients, but that shipping will get you in the end. I've used rhoussal clay with various mixtures, and IMO unless you just want to shell out tons of cash just use whatever you have on hand. If your EOs are lavender and rosemary and your oil on hand is olive then use that.

I still liked her video, but I like to keep my money in my wallet.

In addition, she had nettle oil in the mix.

When you ladies test it out please report back with the smell.

I guess it depends on one's proportions...but yikes. I got the 5 pound bag of rhassoul (from MRH too) which I think was better priced than the 1 pound.

faithVA I have mild seborrheic dermatitis and the rhassoul has completely handled that...I forget I have it even. I would definitely suggest using the clay with what you have in the house and if that doesn't work, then spend the cash on the extracts/EOs. The mineral content of rhassoul is already very antifungal and great for controlling excess oil.

Thanks MsDee14

Ok, y'all wasn't given me a recipe so I had to try to slide by there real quick.

Her recipe makes 4.5 oz and she only uses 1/2 oz of rhassoul clay. So you get about 32 uses out of the rhassoul clay.

So there really isn't a comparison. Her recipe is going to be much cheaper than buying the terressentials. Even if you are heavy handed you will get at least 12 8 oz bottles from her recipe.

Also the ylang ylang is really optional because she is using it primarily for scent. You could replace that with anything. And just the part I listened to, she is describing EOs that are for the scalp. The clay cleanses but the EOS really help to heal.

I still have some terresentials left but I probably will switch up to her recipe and give it a try. I tend to like to buy on the ground. And I can get most of those ingredients locally without ordering. All of those items will last for a year or more.

This recipe isn't for everyone. But if you use the terressentials on a regular basis, I think this is a good substitute to try.

Thanks. I have researched it. Clay is great but EOs also have their place in thinning and other scalp issues. It just really depends on what is trying to be done.

I have very tempermental hair and scalp. Since I've purchased the terressentials I don't really see the $63 as that much. Over the course of a 1.5 years its minimal.

I think if people do their research they can find lower prices if they decide to try it. I doubt that she is cost conscious since she doesn't use that much stuff on her hair.

I can get the rhassoul in bulk at my local co-op (I think its actually the Mountain Rose Herbs brand the last I checked) so I can get as much or little as I want. I already buy their various loose clay for my face so I may even have it here at home.

I have neem, rosemary and a few others I may use but I may end up buying the Rosehip Seed Oil.

My scalp has done so well since I started shampooing weekly (stopped the shedding) so I'm in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mode but the clay itself would probably be good for my hair.

Sorry For not posting the link! I was in a seminar.
I'm not sure if I will make some clay wash identical to her recipe, however, I can use it as a guideline to make something more natural to work for my hair.
I have a really hard time removing product build up from my scalp (even with clarifying shampoos) so, I've recently been using bentonite clay and EOs to cleanse my scalp and the product build up has reduced exponentially. Since I have some bentonite clays and Carrier Oils and Essential Oils in my stash, I think I'll try making a mud wash with that using Aloe Vera Juice as the liquid and seeing how it goes :yep:

My eyes glaze over when it comes to mixing concoctions so I won't be trying this but I absolutely love her hair and her channel.

She's only using 1/2 ounce of the rhassoul clay, so I'd imagine that the clay would last for 32 washes if you use the same ratios and amount she uses. Up front the price seems steep, but everyone would have to run their own cost benefit analysis based on how much terrisentials they use at each wash etc.

I haven't run the numbers etc on the AVJ and other ingredients, but I'd imagine you'd come out ahead in the long run, if you don't mind being a mixtress.

I use clay all the time.
Shop on camdengrey, u will come out ahead. Bentonite, rhassoul or the cheaper option of red moroccon clay.
If u have an Indian community near you, multani mitti, is also a great cheap option ( although getting it in powder form cheap is a bit hard)

I use close to, if not more than 200g per wash. I make a thicker clay than hers.

I read so many horrible customer service reviews for Camden Grey that I'm too afraid to shop there. I wonder if its the same owner...

^^ this right here. i am just so damn lazy. i mean i still do ayurvedic powders but i just put a scoop of each in my conditioner and keep it moving. that is about all the mixing i do.

I know terreasentials uses bentoinite clay; a lot of people prefer to use rhassoul clay.

I have all the ingredients in the house, except I will need to use nettle herb, and linden herb instead of the eo. I might try the mix.

faithVA ylang ylang and nettle are said to stimulate hair growth. It is said to help with alopecia. Linden is an herbal cleanser. They are all holistic, so they have a lot of other great properties as well.

I do not doubt that this will work well. Its gotta be especially cost efficient for nap85 because she basically only uses:

Mudwash
Shea Butter Mixture
Yogurt
Mayo
Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle
Oil

On her hair, and she only uses the Mudwash once a month. She buys her ingredients in large quantities and she doesn't buy new gadgets and products like most of us.

I will probably skip the ylang ylang though. I have rosemary, thyme, cedarwood and basil already. Fortunately there are a multitude of EOs with great properties.

Let me know how it comes out if you decide to make it. I will probably not make any until I start wearing my hair out which will be a few months.
