Weave Questions, Can You Keep Your Edges LOL?

I'm intrigued by the idea of a sew in after seeing that Karlie Redd thread in the ET section..
The one thing that scares me about a weave is that I'm afraid of losing my edges. Is it possible to have a weave that's still almost a full head but that leaves out the whole top or canopy of hair on top? I just cannot imagine having that hair braided down..
I wouldn't have much of a blending issue because I'm a natural 3b who is relaxed to a 3a or so, still frizzy as heck but the curl pattern itself should be easy to match.

The only way to lose your edges is by not having tight braids. I use to braid up my edges but now i just leave them out mostly due to styling purposes. My biggest fear was my hairline to recede back (i have naturally spare temples...irks me to no end) so i was constantly sparying water to loosen up my braids around my edges until finally, i just leave them out.

My hair started to revert...ny was raining last week

I kept my edges, but not as good as when I bun.

I just gelled them down and kept them straight with a scarf:ohwell:

i kept my edges just fine.

1. don't let the stylist braid up your edges

2. don't let the stylist braid your hair too tight or tight at all for that matter.

3. use a net if possible. so the hair is sewn onto the net, not your own hair. that reduces pulling and tugging.

I agree, keep everything off your edges. Even lace wigs. My edges thinned from wearing lace in front of my edges. Fortunately they are growing in nicely because I stopped wearing the lace.

Your edges thinned even though you wore the lacefront in front of your edges (as opposed to on them)??? I thinking of purchasing a lace wig, but am a bit apprehensive.

When I do wear weave, I wear a full one. I have no issues losing my edges because my stylist doesn't pull my hair tight.

Don't blame weave! Blame the stylist!!

You should be okay if you wear the lace occasionally. I got lazy with my hair for about a year because I was working out a lot so I was wearing the wig daily. I think the stocking cap caused me the most problems. If you can figure out a way to wear silk or satin under your wig, that would be best.

Yes to all of this. I wore a weave for 3 months (2 back to back installs) w/ my edges left out and I have no issues.
