...my air dried hair breaks?

I have never been a ps girl. I wear my hair out everyday whether wash and go or straight my hair is always out. But I think I am going to try to keep it up this winter with a nice whipped butter I recently made. But I really dont want to "do" my hair (wash and set) if Im only going to keep it up. But I have learned from past experience after letting my hair air dry that it breaks when I comb it.

Is it just me???? Any have any idea why this would happen?

TIA

What products do you put on your wet hair prior to airdrying?

Like I said I havent done it in a while because I remembered what my bathroom floor would like like when I was done. So I dont recall but more than likely...naked hair.

But even more recently when I have tried braid/twist outs I used leave in conditioners and oils and I would still find clumps at the ends of my hair. My sister said the same thing happens to her so we both stopped.

What do you mean clumps? blackindia07 You mean like shed hair caught in your ends?

Nonie Im so sure it was just shed hair...I feel like when my hair is air dried any manipulation made break more. I can wear a wash and go with no problem because I dont do anything to it for a week except pull it into a loose bun at night and shake it out in the am. I find a good amount of hair when I detangle it but chalk that up to a weeks work of shed hair.

When I do braid/twist outs I would find knots of hair at my ends...sometimes big sometimes small but there would be just big chunks of hair attached to my ends.

That doesnt happen when I air dry straight but when I comb it I hear it snapping alot and find alot of broken hair in the comb and on the floor.

blackindia07, I would never comb my hair bare. The hair surface (cuticle) has scales and if there's no balm to create a smooth coating aka slip, it means you're creating friction against these scales as you comb it bare and of course you'll end up tearing your strands.

Other than that, shed hair will hang around and form clumps if it is not removed. When your hair is straight, there's no coiling to trap the hair which is why you don't have this problem when your hair is straight.

I know folks are wondering why a "no-product" human like me is talmbout "you need product in hair to comb" when I don't use any. The reason I don't is I am not combing my hair. When I do comb my hair, you can bet your bottom dollar, it'll be coated in something slippery.
