If it safe to say coconut oil is a moisturizer

This hygral fatigue stuff is fascinating. I used to prepoo with coconut oil but never knew why it was a good idea. Then I stopped because other uses of coconut oil made my hair dry, and scared me off from using it at all. Now I see why its a good idea.

Oh was I not supposed to give my opinion? Well damn my bad.

PinkSunshine77 - NoNoNo, That is me feeling TOTALLY EMBARRASSED - I was like "Doh, of course it's an oil"!!!

I'd never disrepect anybody here on this forum like that :nono:

ETA: I was so hung up on whether it was best as a moisturiser or sealant that I'd forgotten we were talking about an oil!.

Yes coconut oil does penetrate the hair shaft but I wouldn't necessarily call it a moisturizer alone. My hair LOVES coconut oil it always makes my hair soft. I usually use it to seal in the moisture from my leave in conditioner.

Everyones hair is different. While some people rave about shea butter, my hair hates it.

Coconut oil makes my hair soft and shiny. I can rave about it all day :)

I use oils for everything and from head to toe with satisfaction, but always when I am using water (before, after, sprayed, in the shower, in a water based product, massaged, steamed, etc... any technique that involves the 2 works great for me).

Out of all the oils i've tried (from EVOO to Amla Oil, etc) my hair responds the best to Vatika Oil. Regular coconut oil doesn't pentrate my hair like Vatika does - even though Vatika has mainly coconut oil. SMH

Question : I bought some Spectrum brand organic coconut oil tonight and after I got home I saw that it said "naturally refined" to all the coconut oil users do any of you use refined coconut oil.and have good results? Tia

I'd say no because its an oil. However I will say that coconut makes for the perfect sealer. It penetrates the hair shaft, compacts the cuticle, aids against protein loss and adds shine. Sounds good right? If only that were true with my hair:lachen:. Coconut oil is pretty *BLAH* for my strands. I actually prefer heavier oils like castor, olive, and hemp to seal; then again its a matter of preference. HTH!

Hey Girl:)

I use to coconut oil on my hair exclusively for about 5 months last year to seal and I had the opportunity to use both and I have to say that I personally don't see the difference. My strands felt exactly the same, but as I mentioned in my previous post its pretty *BLAH*(not great, but it did its job) to me. The only difference I found was the expiration dates. My unrefined coconut oil had a 3 year shelf life, whereas my refined coconut oil only had a year. Other then that nada thang lol:lol:. Some say that unrefined/virgin coconut oil is better because when the oil is refined it loses some of its essential vitamins, however I again reiterate there was literally no difference for me. Anywho, HTH!

Thanks for your response :) I tried it (the spectrum organic refined CO) and it made my hair feel just as good there's just a difference in the smell but I like it and will continue to use it
