There are several remedies out there for excessive shedding.

Which of them has worked for you, and why do you think that they worked?

I'm attaching an anonymous thread to this thread.

Tea rinsing
Garlic supplements
DC on dry hair (don't know why this seems to reduce my shedding, but it does)
Hair Trigger has a "tincture" for garlic that I mix into my DC that works wonders!
Commercial conditioner - I've only tried Alter Ego and loved it.

Out of the above mentioned, I can't really tell what works better. I take garlic daily. I DC on dry hair about once every other week. I use the garlic tincture about once a week when I DC on wet hair. I use Alter Ego conditioner every now and again, something like once or twice a month - just whenever I get the urge to reach for it. I used to tea rinse weekly, but have been lazy lately. To me, they all work well individually and definitely in conjunction.

I had most of my success by cowashing more often. Instead of washing 1x a week, I now cowash 2x to 3x a week and it has greatly reduced my shedding and improved the condition of my scalp.

I also noticed improvement when using a herbal tea rinse like chamomile. I tried black tea several times and had no change at all.

BTR's, and garlic supplements eliminated a Lot of my MT shedding. Haven't had any major shedding issues since last year, even though I don't use BTR'S or garlic anymore. I think it's because I started co-cleansing frequently.

InBloom the black tea I find to be drying. BUT several ladies use it with success:yep: I use a ton of other teas though which I find to be great! Like you though I cowash (daily) and tea rinse daily and I also dry DC always.

I voted for Garlic supplements. I should have also voted for adding garlic to con. I find taking garlic daily has slowed my shedding and when I have been neglecting my hair/arlic pills i will use garlic powder. I am heavy shedder and have found these two things to be most effective in addition to not detangling under wanter

I think that I should stop Detangling under water too. I wanted this to be part of my Reggie, but Im starting to think that I shed too much to do it.

Other - Going to the dermatologist, and getting my ferritin/iron levels checked. Once I learned that my numbers were in the toilet, I started taking iron supplements and within a month the shedding stopped.

Why would co-washing help?

It helps me, because shampoo is too harsh for my hair. Once I stopped shampooing, and started using cleansing conditioners, a lot of hair issues stopped. I can also wash 3-4x's a week now, so my scalp is a Lot healthier.

Why would co-washing help?

Cowashing has seemed to help the condition of my scalp which has helped the condition of my hair. It may just be the increase of water on my scalp. My scalp no longer itches, it feels better and the hair at my crown is softer.

I voted : "OTHER".

NUPUR henna has significantly strengthen my hair and reduced shedding. I've been using it monthly for over 4 years now. Its good stuff
:yep:

I always detangled in the shower until just recently. I have a 3 month old baby and I'm shedding a lot. I can't say for sure that it's made a difference, but it seemed like the right thing to do

I voted tea rinsing. I use herbal as black tea is not as effective. Didn't cause problems, just herbal almost killed my sheds.

I also voted other. Quitting shampoo of any kind and using a mud-type wash with bentonite clay in it (SM purification masque) and then cowashing took care of what the herbal tea didn't get.... so as long as I don't fool around with products too much, my shed is minimal.

Before this, my hands would be covered with hair while washing and I'd have a comb FULL of hair afterwards...Amazing I wasn't bald.

My hair is really fine, so detangling under the water was helpful I feel like the weight was too much. It seemed as though the water was pulling out strands that weren't ready to she's yet, if that makes sense. I looked - the pieces had the white bulb, it was just too much force on my strands.

I still detangle in the shower just not under the water. My shedding has decreased and my hair is still detangled.

What do you call shedding?? If I finger comb my hair I get hair coming out in my hands, does that mean I'm shedding I wonder?

Monaleezza When one talks about shedding in this thread, they're talking about EXCESSIVE shedding. Everyone's hair sheds everyday. But if you're in-tune with what is normal shedding for YOUR hair, then you can be aware when the norm becomes excessive.

Other: I get excessive shedding happening once or twice a year. It seems to be a Spring and Fall thing. The only thing that helps are protein treatments (Aphogee 2 step or Nexxus Emergencee are my staples) these either decrease the shedding significantly (which leaves me with normal shedding) or stops it all together for like a month or so and then it's normal again. Why does this work?: No clue.

My hair never used to shed that badly until I started using MegaTek, so while I was using it I took garlic supplements and that reduced my shedding dramatically.
