I love her braids but i'm wondering if the weight of the braids would cause damage? Do human hair come in this length for braiding or is that synthetic?

I can't speak for anyone else but I know they would kill my hairline hanging like that. My hairline cannot take to much stress so I don't think braids are an option for me.

All that hair can get heavy! Especially when wet!

If you like the length, why don't you do yarn braids? It's a lot lighter and if you want the braids to be thicker just double the amount of yarn you're braiding.

They can cause damage. I don't think human hair is readily available in those lengths, but she's a celebrity, so hers may be human. The vast majority of people wearing those braids now are using synthetic hair.

Do yarn braids look like "real" braids? Are yarn braids better for your hair?

I'd be concerned about the weight of the hair on all the follicles. If it's human hair it will be lighter. I wouldn't wear them. I thought she would only be wearing them for a very short period of time, no more than 3 weeks.

its all how you take care of your hair and how big or small you make the braids. if you hair line is thin you can use more of your own hair when braiding the front and you can also make the braids loser.

As for using human hair it could be done i have seen 30in human hair and the hair could be stretched and additional pieces added for length.

i think i am going to braid my hair this long in nov or dec sometime

I have braids that are half the length of those (they lay on my boobs), but just as thick and they are a little heavy when sleeping, otherwise they are fine. I've had them in for 5 weeks, re-done the one's around my hairline every two weeks, and I haven't had any adverse affects. They aren't put in tight, so that probably helps. As far as hair goes, you would be hard to even find synthetics hair that long, but it doesn't matter, they just add hair as they get to the end of the top portion of the braid to make them long. Below is a link to a video of me talking about the braids, so you can see what mine look like:

That hairstyle...uh...its...a little long there...
I would think itd unnecessarily pull out hair. Id AT LEAST put in a protein treatment before hand...

Or not do it.

I remember when i had shoulder length braids and they were heavy. My scalp was irritated and all i could do was keep then in a bun. I bet she didnt keep those in long anyways.

Hello All,

I thought I would give my opinion since I love these on Solange so i decided to get them. I had these braids installed on July 11th. I plan to leave them in for 4 weeks. So......my braids are not as long or as thick as Solange's braids. Mine are tailbone length and they are the size of Beyonce's braids and synthetic hair was used. It took roughly 6 hours with one woman braiding all except the last hour where two were braiding. My thoughts?

They are heavy. I have not worn them down too much because frankly they get in the way. In hindsight I should have gotten mine with a part in the middle like Solange....so they aren't in my face so much. So I wear mine mainly in side high buns. I luv the braids but they just aren't very practical...they don't pull or damage because of the way I wrap them at night to sleep and the fact that they aren't moving and hanging a lot. I have gotten tons of compliments on them and I enjoy the fact that my hair is getting a break......hope this helps...

I've been getting those on and off for 8 years. My hair is fine. Just make sure you are careful when removing. Washing, condition, and take your time to carefully remove each braid.

I love the style, you don't need 30 in hair. A braider should be able to use whatever length hair and continuously add more to achieve a longer braid.
