I am going to JA for a week, and am at a loss as to what to do to my hair.

I am natural 4B. I currently have micros in my hair, and I want to remove them so badly. I want to wash my hair, and run my hands through. I know I am not putting in micros again anytime soon. Iam not going on vaca til the end of the month. What can I do for my trip?

I was thinking cornrows, but my sister reminded me that my hair will probably frizz out because of the humidity, and I also cannot stand synthetic hair.

I thought about removing the perimeter of my micros and replacing them just to freshen them up, then take them all out after the trip. I want them out so badly though, I just cant imagine keeping them in for another 3 weeks.

Are there any other options for me?
Is there any other hair than kanekelon for cornrows? Any human? I itch so badly with synthetic, it just isnt an option for me.

Do you mean the same type thats used for micro braids? Thats what I was thinking, but Ive never seen it done before. And I wonder how much I would need.

Yea that hair. If they start the cornrows with ur own hair and feed the human hair in one pack should last as long as you dont want it super long.

Why not switch it up and get crochet braids. They can cornrow your hair and use human hair for the out hair. I have a set in that I wore on vacation last month. It was great to be able to just shake and go each day. I used a curly synthetic hair that looks like my hair in a braid out, but I'm sue you can use human hair too to achieve the same look. My stylist only takes 3 hours to do my hair and it's lasted for 6 weeks.

Im going to Jamaica as well and what I am doing is cornrowing my own hair to form a bun and I am wrapping marley hair around my own to make the bun ( i hope this makes sense) if not the link for the style is http://www.myspace.com/shaysstyles/photos/8128350

I will be doing the above with my own and marley hair for the bun attachment. Extensions with synthetic hair is not an option for me.

Off topic but are you going for ATI, I know I am:grin: and also to see family

I just got back from a 2 week vacay in the islands and I wore mini braids. Super low maintenance and lasted the full two weeks. Beach and all! Here is one of the pics I Instagramed while on vacay.

Can I give you guys a heads-up? This summer is HOT in JA. HOT. The other day it was 111 in Kingston - so if you're vacationing near the sea, it's going to feel even more humid/hot. Added hair might make you feel even hotter.

Some good suggestions are:
* Wash + goes
* Mini-braids
* Twists
* Braids/twists with added hair that you can pull up into a ponytail
* Buns

Yep just adding that its super hot here.

I would opt for mini braids (on your own hair)
Twists
or corn rows (with a bit of hair added if desired)

I cant imagine having long braids to deal with in this heat

I'd do mini braids, 2strand twists, or wash n goes.
Or just leave in the micros and redo the front. They are one less thing to worry about if you keep them in.

Wow, I forgot about this thread. Thanks for all the responses ladies.

and @jprayze thanks for bringing it back. I just kept the micros I had, and redid the edges. Wash and go isnt an option because I know in the humidity I would be a hot, tangled, dried out mess. When I wash, I need to do twists or something to stretch a lil bit to avoid the ssk's and tangling. I refuse to spend my whole vacay doing hair.

I never had crochet braids, but I did have tree braids before, and lets just say... no!

I did my edges, fairly big for micros, just to keep til after I return then I will take them all down. More than likely, I will be wearing a top-bun daily.

westNDNbeauty, your mini braids look great, but my hair is probably about earlobe length when stretched, so lol. thats not an option.

@ctosha that bun is tooo cute. If I had seen this a few days earlier, I probably would have done that. I am just going for a lil sun and relaxation, as its my first time. After this time maybe I can explore all the festivities a lil more.

I will let you ladies know how it works out, Im going this weekend.

You're welcome!!! Enjoy your trip. What part of JA are you going to? I went to Ocho Rios last year.

I'm on here trying to figure out what I'm doing for my Labor Day weekend trip to DR! I was thinking long twists until I lost some hair due to my meds and I don't think my hair can/should handle that stress. So now I am thinking a twistout.

I also agree with mini braids!! They can look cute on any length! I've been rocking them since my hair was only 3-4" long. They are very good for WNG hair and you can pin them into any style that suits your face!

Also a cute cornrowed style or crochet braids (which are cornrows with bulk hair wrapped around them) would be pretty low maintenance as well! GL and have fun!! :D

ETA: Oops! I see you're sticking with the micros. Have fun on your trip!

MzSwift that is soo damn cool. I would have Never thought I could have mini- braids on my length. I'm still not convinced that the ends would stay, but I sure do want to try now. Did you do them yourself? I would love to do this.

The reason I put the micros to begin with is that I haven't learned how to have 2nd and 3rd day hair yet, and I get soo tired if twisting and removing daily that I need to take braided breaks. But then the braids get annoying, and I want to wash my hair properly and just want them out. Thats why I decided to keep the micros, because I didn't want to install a whole new style when I plan on removing ASAP. Touched up the front, and will remove everything as soon as I get back.

I'm going to Montego Bay. It's my first time, so I am excited.

A twist out would be nice, but maybe you should try mini braids. As so many have stated, they're cute and versatile, especially if your length is like your soggy.

On vacation right now, I had the nerve to think I would look fancy in half wig, while I do look fancy it is WAY too hot. Rocking a high bun at the beach with my own hair, and for night time, I will add some track hair just to make the bun bigger. My silk scarf and gel around my edges has been my best friend. I cowash as needed and keep it moving.

This sounds like my plan, but braided.

Yes, I did them myself. That pic was the first time I'd done them! I wanted to WnG but my hair ends up too tangled and with bad SSK's when I do so I decided to try those. They stay better than twists. In fact, I love the style b/c the frizzier they get, the more I love them! Having the ends slightly undone helps it to look fuller and they look better when they coil up!

If you try them, please post a pic!

At that length, I kept them in for about 2 weeks -- only because I wanted to try something else. The shorter ones took me a couple of hours to put in. So it's totally worth it to only spend a couple of hours and to be able to WnG for 2-4 weeks without tangles.

I wash, cowash, DC and do ayurveda pastes in mini braids with no problems. I also rock them under wigs/headwraps when I don't feel like doing the WnG thing. HTH!:grin:
