What would happen if you relaxed hair with a few tangles in it?

Would the relaxer cause hair loss?

Has this ever happened to anyone before?

Not sure I would risk a possible setback. Why not remove the tangles before hand?

I'd anticipate bigger and more difficult to remove tangles after relaxing since you will be shampooing.

Please remove the tangles. When I re-relaxed for the first time I had some minor tangles and it was not a pretty sight when I rinsed.

The thing is this:

My hair is completely natural, and this will be my first relaxer in rought 1.75 years.

I've removed as many tangles as I can. However, I don't know if I can possibly remove every single one.

What would you do in this situation? How would you get them all out?

Chances are that I'll be getting a lye relaxer. My appointment is on Wednesday with a stylist who did my sister's hair for a couple of years.

If you've detangled as well as you can you'll probably be fine. When I got a virgin relaxer (in a salon) last year the tangles weren't a big deal and I hadn't thought much about it beforehand besides putting my hair in big twists. For some reason the relaxer process combined with the stylist's routine tends to minimize the effect of tangling.

Raspberry, did you get a lye or no-lye relaxer?

Lye. I don't think salons do no-lye relaxers.

The general consensus is that lye relaxers are better for the hair but harder on the scalp and vice-versa for no-lye relaxers. I'm very pleased with my lye relaxer :yep:.

Could you pre-section your hair before heading to the salon?

Sectioning helps to get as many tangles out as possible.
