So I finally paid my subscription, and I didn't plan on doing it. I never thought I would miss this board so I tried to substitute it with curlynikki and when I TELL YOU it is soooooo different:blush:. Anyway, update, I AM TRANSITIONING!! :yay:Why? I have extreme vitamin D deficiency (and other problems):sekret: that made my hair REALLY thin and got a lot of shedding. Since I've been going to the doctor my shedding has drastically stopped but the damage had already been done. Plus, I had scalp damage due to the relaxer. When my new growth became out of control and thought of relaxing, it made me really nervous (I don't know why)... I just got tired of relaxing. Anyway, I'm 4 months post now and it's a little tough to deal with but my scalp just can't deal with the relaxers anymore.

Maybe I have vitamin d deficiency. My hair has been shedding like mad.

And I like reading curly Nikki's posts but not her forums. They seem kind of quiet and a little blah.

I'm not sure if my deficience alone caused all the damage, but based on my research, it does impact the hair somehow. I don't 100% know, but since I've been going to the doctor it has helped me a lot.

More and more AA's are coming up with vit D deficiency. This is due to us working in doors during most of the day when the sun is out and wearing sun protectant on top of our skins natural sun protection (Not saying dont wear sun screen. Just saying this is why a lot of us have the deficiency).

I had the same issue (not as severe as some I must add) and my doctor just promoted me drinking milk (which I already drink loads of) and getting sun time (w/o sun block). I must say my sun time is great, I love it, and it gives me so much energy and this natural high.

I think I first started on CurlyNikki when I was searching for a way to grow my hair back. You're right...it's Very different there, and not in a good way. I wasn't there long before I found another hair site.

Those women can't be bothered to talk to you, or give you any advice, unless you're ready to BC right there and go "Super Natural". Having an issue with your relaxed/texlaxed/texturized hair? The only answer is to chop it off, and go natural. Sheesh!

My mother has been suggesting I take vitamin d but i just looked at my twin lab supplements and they have about 400iu but I also get some from taking salmon oil.

I take liquid vitamin D after I had to take 50,000iu for my deficiency. I have noticed a difference in my mood but not my hair

I have seen support for transitioners of all stages on CurlyNikki, just not a lot of traffic. I joined but I only lurk.

It is very slow. I can't quite tell why is going on. I can't pick up on the vibe. Maybe there isn't one. So many threads are the same as here. Sometimes I read something new. For the most part people simply don't respond or try to be helpful.

My Human Analogy and Physiology Professor who is also a retired doctor, told us a person automatically receives about 20,000iu of Vitamin D just by going outside for 15-20 minutes versus the Vitamin D pill that would take longer to reap benefits. Says companies skew the actual recommendation of vitamins for people, which explains why they are in business.

ETA: I didn't know CurlyNikki was a forum. I thought it was just a popular blog.

I wasn't under the impression it was just for naturals. I thought it was for people with curly or kinky hair. I am relaxed/texlaxed but still have curls and visit the site for tips occasionally.

It's both a blog and a forum.
When did she sell out?

I didn't know any better :nono:...it was my first hair board experience. I did a search for how to regrow my hair after losing it from a Bad postpartum shed, and that's what popped up. At the time I had hacked off my once APL hair to about an inch, and was just looking for knowledge and support...I found neither.

I've wondered this myself about the curlynikki site - the articles on what i guess is her blog are interesting (although sometimes repetitive) but the forums are extremely slow and boring. people are not responsive which translates to very little support/assistance. there are also 50-11 thread subjects (or categories) which makes it offputting to post a new thread or search because so many topics overlap:drunk:.

Re: vit D - i do take them but only a few times a week because I typically try my darndest to stay out of the hot desert sun :yep:

I like her blog alot..actually glad to see how big it/she has gotten..good for her. I rarely pay attention to the forums.

I didn't realize you had to pay for her forum. It used to be free.
Also, I think a lot of people who are natural go to Naturallycurly.com and Napturality.com so I'm not sure CN has a market for the forum.

I like her blog still. I can't hate on her selling to NC.com. She's made a smart business move in my opinion.

I read her blog on occasion but her forums? *** outta here! No way girl!!! I stay away from there. I ain't mad about the LHCF forum membership fee, makes it a better place to hang around it seems.

Interesting. I thought only Nappturality had that stigma.

Can you go into detail? Was it similar to Carol's Daughter selling out?

She sold her soul, I mean blog rights to Naturallycurly owners, 2 white women. That was enough for me. With seeing how black women are pimped by nonblacks all due to hair and then to have a successful and talented blog writer sell her rights to.something she (and other bw assisted) built...well. I don't think her style really changed, at least to me. Then there was the messy situation with another blogger, I thought she handled it immaturely.

I think it's pretty clear as no articles on relaxed/texlaxed/texturized hair are on there, unless I'm mistaken .

I have no idea what all of the articles are about because I don't visit there often

but when I do visit it seems that the articles are geared toward caring for curly/kinky/textured hair in the 3b-4b category which I happen to have. I don't really pay attention to articles about natural/relaxed/texlaxed but more so about my specific hair texture.

Can't speak on why other people go.

I just never thought it was exclusively for naturals but more for people with 3b-4b hair.

Don't get me wrong. I actually like the website... She has a lot of helpful information. The forums just REALLY SUCK!!

I may need to look into vitamin D. I work at night and sleep in the day so I know I need something.
