I really want to know if baggying is beneficial when retaining length is concerned? How much credit do you give baggying for your being able to retain length?

I have a plastic cap on right now under my scarf....I would love to add this to my regimen more often if it is a really good way to retain length.

As i had dry hair..it sucks up moisture fast i started baggying under my wig.à month.and à half ago .i love it! My.ends are perfect. And it seems that my régi is.helping me retain .

Thank you for responding and voting ladies....I think I will add daily baggying to my reggie.

Any other responses would be greatly appreciated :)

Baggy-er checking in. This definitely helps me retain moisture in my hair. I BC'd last year and my I've retained very well. I'll baggy overnight with a light spritz of water or a light-handed application of moisturizer 3-5 nights a week. I've gotten used to crackling and rustling :D

Definitely helps retain length since it helps retain moisture and without enough of the latter, my hair would break off.

I baggy at least 3 to 5 times a week, and my hair thanks me for it. Can't speak to the retaining, because I am prone to chopping off some hair. But my hair is very easy to manage, detaining is simplified, looks and feels healthy.

Thanks everyone.. so far baggying gets good votes...yeah i think i will continue the baggying journey :)

Since moisture is a necessary thing in hair growth and health, and I don't use moisturizers or leave-ins when in twists or braids and so haven't used any since April 2009 except for that one time in August 2010 when I was trying out using S Curl on twists and another time I tried leaving conditioner in hair and didn't like either, my hair would have broken off by now due to not moisturizing. The only thing I can attribute to being able to manage w/o leave-ins is baggying. I do it every night...and whenever I wear hats or scarves.

I'm new to baggying(as of this week). I hope it helps with holding moisture. One thing I know it does is give my husband another reason to laugh at me when I go to bed.

Since you're a texlaxer, be careful not to overdue it and suggest maybe trying it a couple of times per week before doing it daily.
I only recently tried baggying again (January) as a natural, and it's been great so far, I can do it daily overnight with no issues. But when I was relaxed, I baggied overnight once and ended up with a mushy mess that was breaking when I combed it, I had to do a protein treatment to balance things out. Hth.

I only baggy the ends...tried bagging whole head with ( got sick) and without anything ( still got sick)....I just prefer holding all the ends together and putting the shower cap on them and secure it by wrapping it around the makeshift ponytail or using a loose scrunchie outside the bag...I seriously need to do this more frequently....

Thanks again for reaponding everyone, I really appreciate it :)

greenandchic I usually cover my whole head with a plastic cap when I baggy which isn't often..today is the first time in over a year.

Zaz thanks for the tip, maybe I will start off baggying every other day.

I'm relaxed and when I'm deep in a stretch, I will baggy after work in the evenings with a Spritz, a nice Moisturizer & a little Oil to keep that NG soft & moisturized.

I'll do it maybe 1-2 week. (Evenings only) and take it off right before bed. I can always 'tell' when I need to do a little Baggying.:yep:

When you baggy, do you only baggy the ends or do you cover your whole head with a plastic cap?

greenandchic

I think the GHE and PS'g serve two different purposes. GHE traps in head and moisture and causes your scalp to produce sebum. That sebum than coats your hair.

PS'g the pony, protects the ends from friction while you sleep.

I really never gave it a thought. I am relaxed and credit baggying to adding moisture to my hair. I can achieve moisture through other means other than baggying. I opt for baggying because it's quick and easy on nights I don't feel up to cowashing or DCing.

Thanks for the responses! My Friend, I think I will try that tonight and see how it feels.

Baggying for me initially helped with moisture so thickened my hair but left my hair crunchy when it was out, so I didn't see much retention. I think bagging works best if your usual style is a protective also you need to be aware of your protein/moisture balance

i baggy when i dont have time yto do anything else like moisturize or dc or cw plus im under a wig a lot so i can baggy at work:)

I swear by baggying. I do it every night and have done so since my BC. Its the only thing I sleep in and wear under my caps during the winter. It is also great for ladies with acne-prone skin who break out from products on the pillow. This keeps products off my skin when I sleep so I don't break out. I LOVE it and I am a life long baggy-er:yep:

Oh and I credit alot of my retention to bagging because without it my hair would dry up. With baggying my hair stays moist.

Apologies if this isn't the right place to ask this question, but I've tried baggying with a conditioning cap overnight a couple of times and got a headache. I tried baggying again last night and had shooting pains in my head and had to take off the cap. Has anyone experience headaches, etc. when baggying overnight? Many thanks!

cynd, I havent. Do you wear a scarf and if so do you think its tied too tight around your head?

I'm relaxed. I have super dry hair because my scalp don't produce enough sebum. I have way less breakage when I either moisturizer daily or baggy a few times a week. My only suggestion is to monitor your moisture/ protein balance. You need to understand which one you need at any specific time. I was alternating between two products until I found one which is a good balance.

Apologies realize this is only for baggyers. Just wanted to point out there are other options and a person can retain length without it.

luckiestdestiny

No need to apologize. I'm sure OP wouldn't mind learning other options.

Thanks lol. I didn't want to but in so to speak. For me I vary between (depending on mood) its oil rinsing or also dry conditioning the night before I wash w moisturizing condish like shescentit avocado or silk elements treatment. For oils its argan and coconut. Then final rinse leaving in some condish. It leaves my hair moisturized for a week or more then I moisturize as needed. For the dry condish I just puy it in my hair from tip to root...comb it through plait it and throw on a headscarf (satin) and go to sleep then wake up and get ready on wash day. I should add I have super dry hair (combo of anemia and graves which is a thyroid disease) so....these suggestions...work on impossibly dry brittle hair and have transformed mine.

Thanks for the response IMFOCSD, I actually just put on a plastic conditioning cap and top that with a satin bonnet so nothing's tied around my head. I think I'll do this during the day instead of sleeping in it since I dont' seem to have the same issues when I do that. Thanks again.

Thanks for responding everyone, I have been baggying nightly since I started this thread and my texlaxed hair loves it :)

Baggying is something I will always do.
